Contest: FileAssistant++
« on: March 19, 2006, 05:44:38 PM »
Hi,
Here's my entry for the Neo Spring Coding Contest! :D
It's a small application that I wrote a while back, just thought I'd enter it on the off chance that someone finds it useful!

Features

FileAssistant++ is a multimedia file browser that allows you to browse
any file on the PSP filesystem (memory stick, flash, umd) and any remote
file located on a FTP server thru Wifi.

While conencted to a computer (PC, Mac,...) using the USB wire, it is possible
to browse and update the files located on the PSP memory stick from the computer.

More than browsing the file, FA++ can :
    - Display any pictures (PNG, BMP, TGA, JPG)
    - Listen to any music file (OGG, MP3, SID, SAP, SC68, YM, NSF, AHX, MOD) with
      DSP effects and spectrum display
    - Playback any video file (AVI, MPEG, MOV)
    - Display text files (ASCII TXT)
    - Run Flash files (SWF)
    - Run PSP homebrew applications (ELF, EBOOT.PBP) and go back to FA++ while exiting
    - Run any UMD (umd:/SYSDIR/EBOOT.BIN) and go back to FA++ while exiting
    - Run any Lua scripts (LUA) and go back to FA++ while exiting
    - Classic file operations (delete, move, copy, create directory, rename,...)
    - Fully customisable, use one of the skin pack or create yourself!

Pop along to the FileAssistant++ homepage for more information and goodies!

Cheers,
71M

I use your app every 5 minutes when I test my apps  ;)
Unfortunatly I don't see any update since the last 1.0 (in November ...)

Aha! A fellow FA++ user, excellent! ;D

There have been a couple of updates since Novemeber which I've not released in FA++ before this release.

1) MP3 playback has been greatly improved and now allows playback of any size mp3 file.
2) The SWF player has been updated to use the source code from my Flash Player project.

Quite a few bugs have also been fixed since then as well.
I hope that counts as a big enough improvement?
No worries if it isn't  8)

Cheers,

Nope, this is a NEO competition exclusive! :D
There will be an updated on the official site.
Thought I'd give the NEO guys sometime to distribute this version.

Any chance this one will work with the 2in1 microdrives (previous ones did not work with the microdrive or datel 4G) (I was never asked to judge so no brownie points if it does, but I'll give it a go right now and see for sure)

Unfortunately I don't have access to a 2in1 drive so I haven't been able to test it.
I'm guessing that it won't work, but the new boot loader may have solved this issue?

Nope, its a no go. Still only mallchin's Lua file manager will work with the 4gig I have (what is causing this behavior, and only with the file manager apps...)

Damn!
I still think the problem is related to the size of the executable it's trying to load.
Just trying to think of someway to verify this...are there any other 'large' executable applications out there?
Does my SWF Player load ok?

Apologies,

Yeah, in firefox on linux I get the option to save "index.php" which is not healthy (No worries; it's a blank page)

Could you please please re-upload it? I've been wanting an update for a long time  ::sm-02::

I dont know 71M, but I know it was working before (I did download it from here origionally). I have to hook up my microdrive and give your SWF player a go yet and see what error I get.

edit:/
The SWF player loaded fine, I think the problem could be the extra .elf file that is present in FA and not the SWF player. For some reason ones that load an external .elf file seem to come up with the "device not found" error...
