I can't get over how well TalesOfDagur looks for a homebrew 2D game. The artwork is superb, commercial quality. (Is the artwork ripped from some other game?) I don't know how well the story line plays out, but game play is nice and smooth.  TalesOfDagur looks and sounds like a contest winner to me.

(this is my first post here, i usualy hang out at another super dev. site)

All graphics are taken from RPG Maker XP (PC version). There was even no need to rip, all ressources are already prepared wth animations, tiles, objects...

There are a lot of RPG Maker games which look a lot better.

Sorry? Not all the graphics are taken from RPG Maker! The font tileset is made by Chetic, the top emblem, the A button, the text borders, the main menu figure and text... are all from my private GFXer..!

Oups, sorry, I didn't want to upset you  :-\. I was talking for all the "main" gfx, which don't include font, icon or dialog boxes, but the characters, town and castle elements, battle backdrops...

But at all really doesnt matter... I mean its a codercontest. The code is not perfect, but no game i see here is bugfree. But what i dont like is to steel graphics from games. Think about that. There are people who worked much for a sonic with all animations or tiles from secret mana like that tree. I would be upset if squaresoft would take my graphics. I mean its easy to change them a bit. Take Photoshop change the colors scale a bit and nobody will reconize it. But for that contest that really doesnt matter at all. We should stop throwing dirt at each other because nobody is clean of it...

What !! You found a bug in GameBoxDS ?? ;)

For my games, all the gfx are from me (with the help of a friend, but I haveto say that the music is from a free public pack).

But you are right it is not the most important thing here.
The problem is that people will vote for the gfx first and the then for the game itself.

That is a problem, because may be a game is not so playable, but have really nice gfx. Is it the best game? No, I don't think so.

ok some little bugs are ok. But the gameplay have to be QL anayway. If it hangs while ur a little step before the end... hehe i know people who would hit the DS for that (and it has nothing to do with that). So funfactor and control and perhaps style and ease of getting startet are much more important i think.. less important should be menu (ok if u just jump in the game when starting rom its not good), gfx....
So lets say all coded is important. All which is include can give extra points. And also important should be how the game use the nds-specific capacitys like mic, touchscreen, both screens. But if a mic or touchscreen doesnt make sence for that game... ahh u see its very hard to define a good DS game...

Hehe - yeah graphics shouldnt be so important in these kind of contests but still I think it should be noticed, I mean we put in alot of extra work in our game (hero) and did all the graphics and animation from skratch.
I think it's pretty lame to use other peoples graphics, i mean it's about making it youself, and something stolen/taken from another project, I think, Will make the game look alot less original.
My opinion - Tho i am a graphics kinda guy =)

hehe yes sure if u code somekind of 3D or draw good chars on ur own, it should be noticed. This belongs to the game. But letting a game win because it has good graphics... not my favor. A 3D engine is definitly coding and belongs to the game itselfs. Making specials effects like blending, rotating, transparentcy or just making a stylish menu where the buttons move a bit (cutrix) is also something which belongs to a coder contest. If u draw all these chars in 4 directions and each attackframe its not coded but still HOMEBREW!!! So that should get points too. But steeling graphics is something which isnt homebrew. I like that sonic game! But i would like that more if he has drawen it all on his own (or a teammember). If u use rpg-tilesets which are free aviable exactly for that its ok<< But its not an extrapoint. But all these points should be about 1/4 of the result. perhaps less (but not if it is coded then it is a part of the game).
