Ok I managed to get cygwin setup with the missing strings command and the directions scipt worked fine

Is there anyway we can use the directions within the PSP map viewer yet?

One other thing I was wondering is, now I have downloaded the maps for my area in the script, how does the psp mapthis software know which map tile corresponds to the current gps location?

Not really :-)

Well, you can try to import those points as POIs, but you'll need to change the format a bit...or  Just wait a couple of weeks untill I code this functionality..

No worries. I certainly impressed with the progress so far. Can't wait to hook up my GPS device and go for a road trip with this.

Also, someone just made a C#/.NET program to zoom in and get the maps for MapThis!:

It's not 100% finished but already working...
Perhaps it's an easier way, than cygwin scripts, to get the maps via PC for letter upload to PSP.... (it does not do hybrids so far though)

The link was posted in one of my forums by some guy... I guess he desided to remove the files for some reason.. I still have a copy of the zip on my other pc.. I'll see if I can get it...

A user friendly version of what scripts do (needs Microsoft .net 2 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/).

To do:
- substitute blank images when zoom level unavailable
- google hybrid by combining satellite and transparent
- fully functional map test screen

Thanks! It works well, although I can't quite figure out how zooming works. It seems to only download 1 level of zoom, where as your script download 1x 2x 4x etc etc.

In addition, I created a POI file that contains all the speed camera locations for the United kingdom.

The file is 148kb. When I load this on the psp map viewer it crashes. I'm thinking this could be either because the file is too large, or the gps lat/long points are out of range of the loaded map, therefor crashes the program?

Do you have any ideas?

Wrong format...
You are missing descr2 field
Make sure it's in (u'll need a closing comma at the end too):
lat,lon,descr1,descr2,

also, i assume that you copied a valid png image in to your maps directory...

Thanks for the tips. I've got it working now. If anyone else wants a copy of the UK speed camera POI i'll post it here for everyone
