can someone, who knows how those scripts work, change them that it downloads the low detail pictures first?
i.e. atm it downloads the high detail (from the argument) maps first and then the next 4 detail levels.
i think it is way better, if it downloads the low detail or overview maps first, so you can check after downloading the first four pictures, if the area is correct.

Try using this visual map download  tool, developed by in7ane:

source and exe (in /bin/debug/):
http://homepage.mac.com/f.levin/psp/gmdl21.zip

it requires Microsoft .net 2 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/

You have to actually OWN and connect a GPS device too....  The PSP isn't going to magically acquire the ability to recieve the signals just because you have the software for it...

You are probably trying to view the feed from gps.txt on your own map.
Well, this feed is just for demo, and can be used on the demo map only.
If you have an actual gps device, you need to disable FAKEFEED (set to 0) in the config file...

Here is an updated version:

NEW IN v0.2
-----------
- compass bug fix
- CPU clock speed toggle between 222 & 333Mhz
- battery life display
- improved POI support (displays up to 400 closest POI on screen / works in "track up" mode too now)
- basic waypoint support
- new configuration paramaters (READTIME, WARNINGDISTANCE, etc)
People with slow baud GPS devices should try to adjust NMEA read timing (READTIME >1)
- some graphics tweaks and new sample map.

Get the file here:
http://deniska.dcemu.co.uk/bin/mapViewer_v02.zip
copy the link in to your browser window if it does not work directly...

I still can't upload it to this forum.. it keeps timing out with some error :-(
If anyone else can upload it for me, please fill free to do so....

Here is a video, showing the route feature:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=uqzbWHOLLrc

[EDIT] it appears that 1.5 EBOOT.PBP that I compiled at home has problems displaying uncompressed jpeg maps.. (probably due to a old/different libjpeg version on my home PC). Please used the EBOOT from the file, attached below for 1.5FW...

A few things I noticed:
A GPS off would be useful. (as I don't own a gps and have to reload the map to shut it off)
my POI of over 1000 crashes the PSP
the 2kb files are too small for larger mem cards (my 1gb card uses over 8kb per file due to FAT)
Finding a POI is a pain if you don't already know where it is. Possible find function would be cool.

I haven't checked if this is or isn't possible already, but zipping portions of the map would help with the sizing issue and keep the speed up as you'd only unzip one or two small zips.  As it stands I just zipped the whole thing and it is slow but managable.

You can just move the cursor to turn it off...
Format your card as FAT32 - you'll be able to put much more map data on it.
POIs: Are you looking at the latest build? The attached samples have more than 7000 pois (check SHOPS) and it seems to work just fine for me...
I may create a POI search by name function in the future...
I am looking in to creating a custom storage format, which hopefully be faster than zip for large maps...

I am having an issue, I have the same GPS reciever as you, I loaded v2 of Map This I don't seem to be getting any Gps readings.  When I use you Green screen Gps Slim app that works fine, but no readings in Map This I made the flag in the config for FAKEFEED=0 and I have my Wifi Switch off.  When i press the Square button to turn GPS on i get bad data and so bad Lat /Lon  Howevere in the Green Screen app everything works fine.  Any tips ?
