Sleeper Killer
« on: August 20, 2007, 07:11:00 PM »

Nickname: Mastertop101
Projet name : Sleeper Killer
Division: NDS APP
Original enter : YES
In last NEO Compo this project won in the top 10 : NO
Project description: Sleeper Killer is basically an alarm clock with special features meant limit the amount of time you waste by sleeping.
(SUPPORTS MOTION)

According to some studies, some periods of sleeping are a total waste of time. When you're awake in your bed for example, you aren't replenishing at all, therefore, the famous snooze function of your alarm clock is actually useless, ideally, you should wake up as soon as you're awake, else, you're wasting precious time. My application is meant to make the use of the snooze function an especially boring task, for this, you have 2 choices ;

1st choice is the NDS motion mode :

In this mode, you must have a motion enabled device (NDS motion, DS motion pak, neoflash R6 gold, neoflash MK6) and when you want to put the alarm clock on snooze (which stops the alarm sound for 3 minutes), you must turn your DS as you would turn a steerwheel 4 times and the next time you want to use the snooze function  you will need to make 4 more turns.

2nd choice is the mathematics mode :
In this mode, you will have to do 4 mathematics calculations to put the alarm clock on snooze (which stops the alarm sound for 3 minutes) and the next time you want to use the snooze function, you will need to make 4 more calculations

Plus, studies have proven that over sleeping is a waste of time to since the last hours of sleeping are the least useful therefore, there are 2 options to set the alarm;
1st choice is the duration mode :
In this mode, you won't wake up at a fixed time like every other alarm clock, but you'll only sleep for a fixed duration (example : sleep for 8 hours)

2nd choice mode :
This is the normal mode, the clock will ring at the time you set it to.

Some additionnal infos :
There's a hidden alarm music (by default it is a classic 'Beep, Beep, Beep'); press L and Bottom on the D-Pad or R and B while on the first menu to use this alarm music : a jungle sound effects based music.

The screen lights will automatically turn off if the alarm isn't ringing, you can turn them on  by touching (and holding) your finger or stylus on the screen.

Not bad of an idea, i dont have a motion sensor but that i guess can have glitches if not done correctly,

the GUI could be a bit more pretty, and less 80s  Military style,

could offer in alarm type a choice of music in your DS

I set it for 2 minutes and closed it, no noise comes out, turns out due to sleep mode, you must have it open, and it means that you need headphones or some headphone output to hear it, okay...

so battery consumption may be a bit long or you must have it plugged in,

The sound is a bit loud, could be louder and offer an array of options still is good.

Math problems are basic and work,

however, it just goes back to snooze, how about letting us turn off the alarm.

Good idea for a porta-larm. (nice catchy name for it)

but could give a bit more variety. consider MORE options to do, besdies math, how bout connecting the dots, rolling out toilet paper,

wake up to warioware! Tongue

Right, but I didn't have much time and ain't a graphist Wink

I don't really understand why you'd close it since you wouldn't really hear the alarm if it's closed..

so battery consumption may be a bit long or you must have it plugged in,
Yeah, it's pretty much meant to be plugged in Wink

The sound is a bit loud, could be louder and offer an array of options still is good.
It couldn't be much louder actually, the DS' speakers have a limit Wink
But, yes, I could put more options
however, it just goes back to snooze, how about letting us turn off the alarm.
Well... as of how I see it, when you want it to be turned off, you just turn off the DS

but could give a bit more variety. consider MORE options to do, besdies math, how bout connecting the dots, rolling out toilet paper,

wake up to warioware! Tongue

That would be cool indeed

you leave every stone untouched even if some (with the looks) arnt important

try offering a setup to music to wake up to. I Know the speakers have limits, but that didnt stop dsorganizer's maker (He has an amplifier for music.)

This is nothing short of cruel!!! 3 Minutes snoooze....omg!!!! sm-13  4 math questions for three minutes sleep!!! Ugg! lol Sad

Very nicely done and very effective!  I used it last night and set it to go off about 15 minutes before my alarm clock and after hitting snooze 3 times I couldn't bear to do more math and got up before my other alarm even got started!

Cheers! sm-01
