Finally, a game that delves into the depths of the human experience and uncovers the true angst and alienation of our existence with unflinching realism.
Through the parable of a post-apocalyptic world, the player wanders in vain, seeking out the dangers that wait around each new corner. And, through it all, persevering in that eternal and all-too-human aim: simply to make a connection with another human being.
Robbed of that common frame of reference our everyday lives give us and even of the illusion of language, all human interactions in the familiar nightmare world of Escape are reduced to the rawest of choices. The player must make the choice whether to coldly and gruesomely slaying every person that appears or to make the most heart-rending attempts at bridging the gulf of human psychic separation with offerings of peace, made all the more heart-rending by the indifference with which the gift is usually received.
And yet...and yet. The jewel, hubcap, locked chest, the eyeball...surely one of these holds the key. The key to humanity's universal nature. The key to Escape.
In the end, though, are we not forever trapped in this shell of Being and Becoming? Have we truly communicated our innermost selves to anyone? Have we transcended the myth of our existence? Or was it all just gruesome slayings, no matter the seeming of it? Can there ever be an Escape?
...word is bondage...
