Marble
« on: August 20, 2008, 02:12:01 AM »

Nickname: Noda
Projet name : Marble
From : France
Division : NDS Game
Original entry : YES
Support Motion : YES (full gameplay)
In last NEO Compo this project have won in the top 10 : NO
Project description : Marble is a complete remake of the classic wood labyrinth game, in full 3D (both screen) with realistic physics, mp3 music, on-DS visual level editor and more...

Features:

- Physics engine, with realistic collision simulation
- Full 3D on both screen, either as one big screen or with 2 different views
- Skybox to simulate 360° environment
- Advanced 3D effects: point light simulation, projected shadows, motion blur...
- Full MP3 music & 3D sounds
- Special bonuses and scenery effects (let's try this mushroom...)
- Integrated (on DS) full featured 3D level editor
- High score & progression saving
- 22 levels, with various environment and progressive difficulty
- Full motion sensor support

...and that's only for this preview version Wink

Note however that there's still some minor graphic glitches in this version as some parts of the 3D engine are unfinished.

How to play:

- Motion sensor : just tilt the DS, and the board will tilt the same way Smiley
DON'T FORGET TO CALIBRATE YOUR MOTION SENSOR CORRECTLY WHEN PROMPTED!

- Stylus : Hold the stylus down on the center on the screen, then slightly move in the desired direction to tilt the board. When the pressure is released, the board will come back to a flat position.

Press select at anytime to save a screenshot in .bmp format (the game will freeze for a short time during the file write).

How to install:

1. Copy the "marble" folder found in the archive in the root of your flashcard.
2. Copy the file "marble.nds" (or "marble.ds.gba" if your flashcard doesn't work with .nds files) on your flashcard.

Do the next step only if you encounter problems running the homebrew or have the "error initializing file system" message on loading.

3. Apply the DLDI patch corresponding to your flashcard on the "marble.nds" file.
Go to http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/ for the patches and instructions on how to do it.

Looks great! Hopefully there's enough reviewers with motion carts to test this properly though...  ~sm-44.gif~

Looks great! It's times like these I'm glad I got the R6 Gold.

I'm a tad confused: On your website you have a demo up, and a notice that the project has been postponed, due to talks with a developer group (publisher?). In your post, you also mention it's a preview. My question is this: Will the entry be a full version, or will it be a demo?

My website has not been updated.

The demo available here is one of the early build (1 year ago). I've been contacted some months ago by a professional studio to produce a commercial version of the game, but due to the lack of professionialism of this contact and my lack of free time, I decided to give up with this.

So here will be presented today a full version of the game, marked as "preview" cause there's a load of features on my todo-list still unfinished (it includes 3D engine improvements, light animations, news level elements, etc).

The final version will be released later in the year as soon as I finish it, along its full source code.

Cheers Noda.

I'm really stuck on one of the stages for 2 reasons. Bit hard to explain but i'll try my best.  I think it's the 4th stage in "Get Started" which looks a bit like this:

Code:
---------------
           {}
   ----------
-----   -----
o  o  o  o

> o   ^  o  <
---------------

2 reasons I can't get past this level:

1. The ball just gets stuck between 2 of the bumpers and can't get out.
2. I really cant get the ball through the hole between the 2 bumpers, it's almost impossible.

I must have tried about 20 times now and I'm not going to carry on anymore as it's too damn frustrating.

Other than this is seems like a decent game, of course we can all see its an awesome homebrew so that goes without mention really.

I also find the camera on the top screen is awful.

I wish you the best of luck anyways, awesome work.
