[PSP GAME] Geometry Wars!
« on: August 20, 2008, 07:05:41 PM »

Nickname: Sturatt
Projet name : Geometry Wars Retro Evolved PSP
From : USA
Division : PSP Game
Original enter : YES
Support Motion : YES
In last NEO Compo this project have won in the top 10: NO

Project description:

This is my attempt at cloning Geometry Wars to the psp. I have tried to get the gameplay as close as possible to the original game. It is developed in C++ and uses triEngine for it's graphics.

The game is too big for the forums 2MB limit, so here are some mirrors
[ links removed at request of Activision]

I know how much you guys love screen shots, so i took plenty of them, although i do have to say that the graphics look much better in game, with everything moving around Smiley

so much thanks to:
Sektor - wouldnt have motion support if he weren't so patient  ~sm-43.gif~

b0rk - thanks also for helping me out with  motion testing, i really appreciate it

Sakya - Light MP3 source helped me to get background music in this, very nice app

Raphael - He's helped me out a lot in the past through emails and forum posts, just a really helpful guy. Also for triEngine, which is used for the graphics in this game.

Tomaz, InsertWittyName - triEngine is awesome guys

crazyc, SamuraiX, sakya - exception handling prx

PS: My high score so far is 105000, think you can beat it?

Hi , i played your game for a while...

I don't know why , but the particle effects don't look like in the picture...
They're all semi-transparent green!

Also when you kill some enemies it doesn't render any particles at all.
Possible bug?

And you should add sound effects..................

This > POLYGUN Wars.

Sorry , but ... no.

PG wars is a more complete game.

thanks all for the kind words

@Conle - I'm sorry to hear about the particle bug. I had that happen once in developing this, but it didnt last long enough to track down what it was, and I could never reproduce it. I'm glad you found a temporary fix for it though. I do agree that polygunwars is more polished, but I hope that doesnt turn you off from this game forever. I will have it more polished in the future, but was forced to release it earlier than i would have liked due to the deadline. I have only worked on this since the very end of June, so give it time and it will get more polished

@nicodemus82 - I actually just made a post about this on qj.net forums. The gist of it was that the one time that bizarre actually went after a clone was two years ago, in the height of Geometry Wars Retro Evolved. And it was a really popular and on the PC as well. Now that GW2 is out, they're even less likely to go after a retro evolved clone. Furthermore, I doubt they'll even notice one in the psp homebrew scene. Nonetheless, I will think about changing the name in the next release.

You may have to since the project received a ceased and desist letter from Activision.  If it ever comes back it will need a different name and any copyright material removed.
