Neat.  I thought the version with the graphics pack separate was the only hack around.

But the question remains open as to whether SNES hardware (not flashcart hardware) can even do anything with ROMs that big.  I really don't know.  I think the limit on GBA was 256Mbits though.

For both versions you need the "SO_gfx40.zip" gfx pack (SDD1GFX.DAT & SDD1GFX.IDX must be copied to a subdirectory (of the directory where the rom is stored) named socnsdd1 for Star Ocean)

(It is playable on older backup units, as long as it has more then 64Mbit), Snes9X and Zsnes without those gfx packs)

neviksti, got Star Ocean working on the Tototek Flashkit, but , there is a BUT and i'll quote him on that:

You can already play StarOcean (translated) on the SNES with hardware from tototek.

I hacked the game to no longer require the features of the S-DD1 chip, but to include the graphics the ROM was expanded to 96Mbits.  Therefore, you currently need a 96Mbit (or greater) SF7.

Yes, it appears technically possible to get this to work for a 64Mbit cartridge / copier.  However I am no longer working towards that goal.  If someone who has a good knowledge of the SNES hardware (and programming for it), wants to continue my work, I'll be glad to share it.

Honestly, unless problems arise (which often happens), it would only take one hard weekend, or a decent week's worth to complete it for 64Mbits.

- slightly modifying Overload's snes coded SDD1 decompressor
- changing SRAM size to give you "scratch space" for decompressor
- carefully mixing the "use data packs" and "use decompressor (which is slow)" so that the game runs smoothly (probably all decompressions > a certain size are not "time sensitive" ... hopefully this won't take much tweeking beyond that).

I really am not interested in talking someone through this (sorry).  So only ask me for the code if you actually can do this on your own.

To be playable on this neoflash card, it would have to have at least 96Mbit or more.

Cool.

One problem I see with this, though, is that if this device is made to support 96Mbit (or more reasonably, 128Mbits), it would be solely for Star Ocean compatibility.

Then again, I do think Star Ocean compatibility would increase sales (Star Ocean has a pretty big fanbase in the West, and there are lots of people who would kill to play the fan translation on real hardware), and as long as this uses RAM and not NOR Flash or something to load games (geez, I hope it uses RAM), it would not increase the cost that much - whether you're buying 6MB or 16MB, RAM is pretty cheap these days.  Can you even buy 6MB of RAM?  I would think you'd have to go for 8MB.

Well as far as SDD-1 uncompressed games are concerned, that would be more interesting to me if other SDD-1 games were uncompressed as well, such as DBZ HD or of course the Parodius game that uses that chip.  I don't really think I'm ever going to complete an RPG on this system again.  Chrono Trigger was enough and these larger games mentioned were only interesting to me back when they were released, but they were only Japanese.  It took the community too long to translate them. At that point, I lost interest.

Would be good if this device supported SD or CF.  Loading one game at a time to a Neo2 cart on the PC via USB and then transfering the card out to the SNES deck would be kind of cumbersome when we have all this technology available and is as such used in the SWC DX2 with diskdual and compact flash to ide converter installed with 2 gigabytes of roms.

yes,we can add one more "128M" SNES game to it, it's not difficult, hehe

and at the beginning we will load rom from neo2 flash cart, and in the future when the product start for sell, maybe we will release these menu source code,so coders can make it load rom from neo2 SD slot.

Really nice :) dr. neo

As for SDD1 games, another game i know off that is decompressed and has the sdd-1 removed is Street Fighter II Alpha, that also uses SDD1.

I would love to see Parodius uncompressed and sdd1 removed :D (and all other sdd1 to then) (i would say, anyone that can contact neviksti? hi did the Star Ocean one)

Oh yeah I think I remember that, wasn't it originally uncompressed because emulators couldn't handle SDD-1 at the time?  I remember I finished parodius on an emulator.... but now I can hardly stand using an emulator for snes.

amptor the current NEO SNES cart can support up to 128M rom size, but we need to know the details about how the 96M game swap memory bank (I/O), so we can add this 96M game mode to it, and we need the test rom too,for verify it after we done.  ~sm-41.gif~

Hmm you might have to contact a person called TRAC from the Snes9x team or someone else from the Snes9x team for that kind of information.  They should know.

Dr. Neo, see PM for the SO 96Mbit (both sdd1 removed and sdd1 removed English translated)

The initial release will support the Neo2, which does not use SD.

Later on, the function may be modified to accept the SD version.

I really wish large games were supported like Star Ocean english patched, which is 96mb

wow, I am glad I brought up that topic about the uncompressed version of Star Ocean and seeing that Dr Neo actually plans to have up to 128mb support!

All the carts that use the Neo2 (MD Myth, MKIII Myth, N64, SNES, NES, etc) should really be able to utilize the SD version of the Neo2. I don't know what the non Neo2's highest capacity is, but SD would really make things interesting and capacity wouldn't be a problem at all...will all these carts be offered with a Neo2 or will that only be separate.

Now if only there was a Neo Geo dev cart (yea it's been talked to death and I know the issues involved, but you can always hope and dream, can't you?)...
