AVEC V2 - GPS Vector Map Viewer
« on: August 17, 2009, 08:51:24 PM »

Hi Guys,
Here is my application entry for the Neoflash coding competition.
Since there are no other entries yet, it looks like I'm first so far.

Nickname: Art
Project name : AVEC
From : Australia
Division : PSP APP
Original entry : YES
Support Motion : NO
In last NEO Compo this project have won in the top 10 : NO

Description:
AVEC V2 GPS Vector Map Viewer for PSP

AVEC is a Vector map viewer capable of displaying and navigating maps
in the common Polish format maps.
The 1.50 kernel version can also receive location from a GPS device and
display your location on the map.
If the map file has street information, the program tells you what street
you are in, or lookup the name of a street selected with the crosshair.

The 1.50 version should be installed to GAME150. If you have a GPS setup
for MapThis! it will be compatible since it uses the same GPS routines.
The newer firmwares version should be installed to PSP/GAME352 or
PSP/GAME5xx, etc.

You can't test the GPS feature, but you can still load a map,
pan around / zoom in & out, etc. You can test street lookup with one
of the example maps too.

With the right map you could navigate without a GPS.

Use the newer firmwares version if you don't have a GPS device.

EDIT,,,
I've just doubled the performance by doing the line and poi search at the same time.
I wish I'd done that before the first release.
I might get a faster one up.

Thanks Smiley

I've upated the links to the faster version.
I don't intend for the entry to be version specific,
but I guess the date the entries close for the comp would be the  deadline for any new features to count.

This is a really really great homebrew , and its fun to play around the map.
The only downside is that if you zoom out too much the rendering can take some time , other than that its great ~sm-42.gif~ ~sm-42.gif~

That's because at low zoom levels the program draws the wire polygons on the map.
You can press cross at any time to cancel drawing polygons.

Obviously it is unfinished, but that's the stage it was at for entering the comp.
I have a kind of R-Tree file indexing done now, which is the next step in allowing
it to draw maps much faster:

Looks like Photobucket sold out and imposed a bandwidth limit.

I haven't updated the links since the deadline,
but I have improved speed by many times.
just to show how V3 is going, here is a real time in-car navigation demo:

Thanks for your comments, and great review
I made the annoying sound and option to turn it off too Wink

Did a "Find Place by Name" feature with auto complete text entry:

When does the competition end anyway?

Wow the ability to search for a given place is a great addition ~sm-42.gif~.
Good luck in the comp!
