Weird buzzing sound
« on: February 23, 2011, 01:38:55 PM »
Just got my Snes myth cart today and have trouble using it  :'(

When ever i turn the SNES on with the myth cart inside a loud humming starts from the tv speakers. It is in the menu and in games.
I have installed Neo2 Pro Manager 1.09 and with it 0.51 menu for the myth cart.
I tried the Donkey Kong Country series burned in the cart  with DKC 1 & 3 being (U) and DKC 2 being (PAL). I tried them with a Fifa 96 (U) and Turn And Burn (PAL) on the back and even without a bootup game.
The games work fine. but there is still that loud humming that is really annoying.

I'm using a Super Nintendo clone machine called Super Player. It looks like the Super Nintendo Jr., but it is region free (plays 99.95% of all retail games) and has 50/60 hz switch. It plays the real games just fine without the humming.

I have tried the console with scart and av cables, but it doesn't make a difference to the humming.

Sounds like RFI (Radio Frequency Interference), but I've never heard of it being so bad. Old systems and carts used to have thick, heavy, aluminum shields to prevent RFI, but those have gotten thinner and less extensive over the last decade as countries relaxed the rules on RFI. The Myth carts all emit a certain amount of RFI, but it sounds like your console has little or no shielding to be affected so much. It's also possible the console is badly grounded, which makes shielding less effective.

EDIT: As an example that RFI isn't unusual for ANY electronics, when I move my Razer gaming mouse, I can hear a faint buzz on my pricey sound system hooked to my computer via TOSLINK (optical hook up).

Probably nothing i can do about it if it is about shielding :(, only hope is that i will be getting a origina Nintendo ac adaptor next week and change it to the clone machines own ac adaptor that was UK plug and I reguired to use a adapter with it. Small chance it will fix it, but here is hoping :/.
Probably have to shell out cash for a real SNES since the buzzing sound is almost as loud as the games own music and the buzzing is constant so it is really distracting.
Should I get the US SNES since i'm mostly looking to play translated games (JAP) on my mythcart? Or could i play them on a PAL SNES which would be easier and probably cheaper for me?

Anyway I decided to take a pic of the insides of my clone Super Nintendo

I mostly use a Yobo FC-16 Go for my SNES playing. You might check that out - it's a really nice clone that can be used as a portable or like a console.

You should be able to play those games on a PAL SNES with the Myth.

Finally was able to get a real authentic US SNES with modifications for 50/60 hz and region free.
The buzzing is still in the game selection menu allthough a lot quieter. Also it comes in some parts of the game when there is no music?
Anyway it's not as disturpingly loud as it use to and in game you really have to listen for it to notice if it is there.
