Why can I only put around 10 games on the 256 meg cart?
(1/1)
treepop:
Before purchasing this. I assumed each game would be around 4-5megs. Assuming I need another 4 megs for the save files and another 2 megs for menus and stuff I am left with 250 megs, which should accommodate ~50 games worst case.
Do I need to reformat the cart? Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks!
Sektor:
8bits in a byte. You aren't the first to mix up bits and bytes. It doesn't help when they use the same initials but different casing: mb = megabits and mB = megabytes but people interchange the casing all the time.
256mbits divided by 8 = 32mBytes. If each game was 4mBytes then you could hold 8 games. Most games are much smaller than 4mBytes but it's still not much space. Best to get Neo SD. At least SD cards are measured in mBytes.
ChillyWilly:
While the largest MD game was 40 Mbits (not counting the new Pier Solar which is 64 Mbits), there are a LOT of games for the MD in the 16 to 24 Mbit range. The more popular games in particular are larger... Sonic 1 is 4 Mbits, Sonic 2 is 8 Mbits, and Sonic 3 is 16 Mbits.
Like Sektor was pointing out, don't mix up MBytes with Mbits. The flash cart is 256 Mbits, not MBytes. Be careful when looking at game sizes... if you're looking in a file manager window, it's probably showing you MBytes.
