Dr.neo, how about making a list of what we should be looking for when reviewing, and what the point total for a perfect game would be for each thing? That way all the reviews are consistent for HOW they score games/apps. For example, the year before last, I scored over the list of things below, on a scale of 100 total point, so 0 to 20 for each, with the bonus able to put it over 100 if it were a truly great game/app.

Graphics
Sound
Controls
Originality
Fun (games)/Usefulness (apps)
Bonus (like being open source)

EDIT: On a different note, I can't get any of the NDS games/apps to work on my DS Lite except for Starfall. They run fine in Desmume, but hang when run on real hardware... but maybe it's the hardware's fault - I noticed my R6 Gold no longer has any save memory. When I boot without an SD card (so no menu), I get that status screen that normally shows the save memories, the motion unit, and the two slots... except NOW I don't get ANY of the save memories. When I boot the menu from SD card, pressing B normally clears the save... which now does nothing and I have to press A to cancel. No DS game with save runs - they all say the save cannot be accessed and to reinsert the card. So maybe these games hang because they can't find any save?

Can someone else try them on real hardware so I can see if it's just my card? I don't want to give fewer points for not working on real hardware if it's my fault it's not working. And yes, I did patch the roms for the DLDI driver. That shouldn't be needed on some of them as they don't access the SD card. Starfall, for example, works fine on real hardware without patching.

Most todays homebrew on DS has to be run through HBMenu (You can either find it in SpiritsDS package by Nightfox or on http://sourceforge.net/projects/devkitpro/files/hbmenu/hbmenu-0.4.1.zip/download ) If hbmenu itself doesnt run, consider your card broken or outdated by far.
(Almost) every card-firmare is just designed for running pirated roms. But integrated filesystems on NDS-homebrew require a passed argv[0] (path to the file). HBMenu integrates this feature. And as a bonus, it supports returning to the menu inside of homebrew by pressing "Start+Select+R+L"

But I guess something is wrong with your card/firmware anyway. There were several homebrews this time not using advanced filesystem features. At least a quarter of the entries just had to load into RAM and then be executed :(

Yeah, a lot of homebrew applications use nitroFS nowadays (including mine), and nitroFS requires the use of a compatible menu, like hbmenu. In my case though, I included both a nitroFS and a FAT version, so you don't *have* to use a special menu if you don't want to. ~sm-59.gif~.gif

At any rate, it's nice to see so many entries ! Good luck to everyone.  ~sm-66.gif~.gif

HBMenu does the trick! Thanks, guys. I guess I haven't kept track of the latest going ons in the NDS scene.

It's the only reason I didn't think there was something seriously wrong with my NDS. Starfall worked, so what was the deal with the rest?

AnimEDS is working fine on my DS here (using an old, non-nitroFS linker), but I'm not using any EFS or nitroFS feature here: just DLDI-based SD card access with libfat and good old "bin-packing" technique from pre-DLDI times.

Even in the event of a buggy DLDI driver that doesn't return, you should see a checkerboard background and some version/author message.

Any chance your SD card's contacts got rusty and hinder the loading of content (that happens on a regular basis with my system).

I'm gonna tests others' NDS entries, anyway.

Test with an R4 clone (custom WiFi loader):
LemIstlo: black screens
ACOTSYE (nitro) : white screens

Test with same R4 clone (and HBMenu):
LemIstlo: works
acotsye (nitro): works

HBMenu got it working for me... I imagine it's a recent change in devkitpro for the NDS.

About 2 year old at least. It's what they called the "ARGV protocol" where it's now up to the launcher to tell the launched program where it is on the filesystem. The devkitpro team accuse everyone using older technique such as EFS' scanning to hinder progress and be a bad guy who promotes activities of linkers vendors that fakely pretend they support homebrew but do not follow new recommendation of the devkitpro team.
