Tabbed
------

v0.18a

Long time no Tabbed, mainly because I've been busy with something else, but thats by the by. What we have here is the same old Tabbed pretty much, but with a Neo Flash splash screen, mainly because this is a cempetition entry for the Neo Flash Spring 2008 competition, I've never entered Tabbed into a competition before, mainly because it wasn't made for competative purposes, but I thought, what the hell. It's also my quick effort to help out the scene, the Neo Flash competitions are usually really good and filled with some inventive stuff but the more the merrier, thats what I say. Enjoy!

v0.18

No messing round here, because I've got something huge. It's a drum machine. I always fancied jamming along to some slick beats, throwing a few chords around, climbing the fretboard in a frenzy of off the wall improvisation, but I never really got round to it because the whole effort sounds empty without a backing beat. I've tried drum machines before but they were either too complicated or far too simple, that's why I created the drum machine for TaBbed.

I've kept the whole idea simple, while offering enough complexity to have fun with it. Essentially you have your drum board, place dots on each instrument using your stylus, when the time line hits the dot, the drum sounds. You can adjust the speed using the speed control, the lower the number, the faster the beat (I will improve this in later versions). You can also mix this up by bringing in the sequencer, the sequencer is held on the top screen, each channel has its own drum board, independant speed and can be repeated as many times as you need. You won't enable the sequencer unless you hit the play button, the sequencer will play each channel as many number of times as you specified and will loop until the stop button is pressed. Easy as that, for maxiumum effect connect your ds up to your amp or powered speakers, you neighbours won't know what him 'em.

I will be making more changes to the drum machine as versions go by, namely loading your own drum samples as well as saving and loading sequences. If you have any suggestions or improvements then give me a shout. Enjoy.

v0.17a

Just a quick fix for R4 and M3 users, basically my save file was conflicting with the R4 and M3 save file causing everything to go bananas. I've tested this on an M3 so I hope it works for everyone. Btw, nothing new has been added for this version so if you don't own an R4 or a M3 then I wouln't bother grabbing it.

Also, big thanks to everyone who visited the site and reported the error, if I don't know about these things then I can't fix em. Cheers guys, have one on me! (wihtout me actually providing one in any way whatsoever)

v0.17

Lah de dah... what do we have in this update... lets see. I've added some new icons in the mod player, tidyied up the code.. err, what else have I done? That's it... added MP3 support!! I know lots of people wanted I and never stopped wanting to put it in, so I finally took the plunge and did it. I can't really guarantee the integrity of it but it should be pretty stable. I would, however advise that you keep file sizes down by compressing the file, even 64kbps files sound good over the speakers and when plugged into an amp or speakers with a guitar over it you shouldn't be able to tell the difference. The only proviso is that you HAVE to conert the file to mono otherwise the file will sound like it is being filtered through treacle. It was either release it now with that restriction or hold off to a later date, so I thought I'd let you have it now. While I'm here I also want to say a big thank you to Tom on the palib.info forums for putting together the PAlib mp3 support and helping me, and others, out with getting it working. People like Tom are the ones that keep this scene flowing and give coders like me the tools to make excellent, free software, for people like you. Cheers Tom.

Ok, instructions for the MP3 support

- convert file to mono and optionally decrease bitrate
- place anywhere on card
- select the media player
- browse for the file
- the file, once selected, will take a short while to copy to memory
- eat a biscuit (optional)
- the play icon will play the file, once selected it will turn to a stop icon.
- the file will continue to play between screens, I have also placed a play button on the tab viewer screen
- to play a new file you have to eject the file by clicking the eject symbol in the media player
- a new file can then be selected
- repeat to fade (3cr)

so whats next then... I'm not telling actually, you'll notice a gap in the bottom lineup of icons on the main screen, that was where the old save icon was, which I use for debugging different units of code and where the next module of code was. All i'll say about the next addition is that I love it, and have used it a couple of times already. I just know you'll love it, thats why I want it to be extra feature rish and shiny when I hand it over to you lot. But for now I'm sure you'll love the early christmas present that is Mp3 support.

v0.16

Another week, another version. There are actually a few more buits and bobs I wante to fit into this version, nameley background and font loading off SD, but I got a flash of brilliance yesterday and decided to add and entirely new feature. I figured it would take me a week or so to get it working how I wanted it to, so I better release a new version now. So what have we got then? I've fixed a bug or two, making sure right handed now default. I've vastly improved the file navigastion with the inclusion of a handy dandy selected file bar, this also works in the options menu so you can see what your current settigns are. I've also improved the edit screen a bit so you can now scroll up and down the document, it's still not prefect, but until saving is working it doesn't really need to be. The big new improvment is the MOD player I've thrown in, this is kind of a precursor to the MP3 player which will turn up one day, I added it so people can jam along to MOD drum loops, of which there doesn't seem to be many :_( if you find any then give me a shout. Anyway, look out for big things next version. Laters.

v0.15

I really hope I'm not going to dissapoint people here because this version is rather sparse. The main feature I've added is the options screen which contains a selection of fonts, backgrounds and the requested "lefty" mode, which turns all the chords on their heads. I hope its useful. You'll also notice that any options selected will be saved when you turn your DS back on, (thats save support kyle), which should come in useful. I've also left in a very early vesion of the edit screen, in it you can edit the text in files, you can't save them just yet, just edit them, so basically it's pretty useless. At least I've done something eh? Till next time.

v0.14

I'm calling this one 0.14 but it really should be 0.13a because It doesn't really include any new features. The big addition is all code behind, now you will be able to browse the card to your hearts content without it crashing, you'll also be able to open as many files as you want, one after the other, without it blowing up either. Also, feel free to open txt files from within folders, thats quite useful. The other addition is the main menu has double press icons, one press of the icon will display the name of the mode, two will load the mode, great eh?

v0.13

I've been a bit annoyed that you can't really use Tabbed to view tab files, mainly because it can only display 1024 characters, it is slow to scan through files and the scroller can't be turned on and off, or altered. But all this is now fixed. Just small things, but I think it helps. Use L+R to alter the speed of the scrolling. A to start and stop the scrolling. Up and Down to move one line and Left and Right to quickly scroll through the file.

v0.12

Another version? Yep. This one includes some changes to the chord browser, it's now more stable, Also the tab viewer is a bit more functional (although more buggy) and displays a tab over both screens with the ability to set the tab scrolling so you can play along easier (Press A to start). More updates soon.

v0.10

What? It's ready? Not quite. Infact I would go as far to say that this is the worst put together piece of DS work I've ever done (and that's saying something) actually, the source code is very tidy and split up quite proffessionally, but the app is so buggy it will sieze up at any given moment. Why am I releasing it? Mainly because I wanted to just get it out there, let people decide for themselfs, look it over and homefully give me some ideas about what to do next.

So far you can browse through your media card (DLDI patching is a must) and open up .txt files (but only from the root), you can scroll through an opened file with the L+R buttons and crash it by doing anything else (actually, it's not quite that bad). You can also look up chords in two (count em) ways. You can even start a basic Metronome and adjust it with Up and Down (MORE COWBELL!!)

By the way, this app is buggy (if you haven't already got the message) but things will be fixed up bit by bit over the coming d/w/m/y's. I'm going to aiming for weekly releases (hopefully) from here on in, but I can't promise anything.

chorded - briefly
-----------------

After reading a thread at 11:00pm on DS-Scene.net I became excited at the possibility of a guitar chord finder for the DS. By 12:00 I had version 0.01 finished. Chorded now displays chords and, using the L+R buttons, can now move the base fret meaning you can check a chord anywhere on the neck. Leave me feature requests at suspectsoftware.co.uk
