Happy new year! NEO2 Menu v1.3 [12-31-2006] !
« on: January 01, 2007, 12:03:28 AM »

Merry X'mas and happy new year! Here is a small gift from NEOTEAM
before 2007! Hope you like it. :)

NEO2 Menu v1.3 [12-31-2006]

New in this version:
* Supports NDS homebrew
* "X Button to Backup ROM" message
* Many small crash fixes (Magical Vacation 5, Monster House, etc.)
* Corrupt graphics fixes (Harry Potter, Monster Bomber, etc.)
* Many non-booting games fixed (Shrek, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, etc.)
* Many saves fixed (Final Fantasy III, etc.)
* Many "exit game" bugs fixed (Star Fox, Bust-A-Move, etc.)
* New Super Mario mini games fixed
* Supports the official *.SRL file format
* Added FAT warning function, it'll report an error if it detects
file system fragmentation, then please re-format your SD/TF

About homebrew:
Homebrew ROMs can only read files and directories from SD if they are
designed for it. That's why you see some with different builds for
"SC CF" and "SC SD", for example. There's nothing restricting homebrew
from using the SD file system. Chishm's NDS FAT lib should support
Neo2 SD well enough.

About file system fragmentation:
Also keep in mind that fragmented file systems are still not supported.
A fragmented ROM WILL have problems running. You can check for file
fragmentation using the "analyze" button in Windows XP's defrag tool.
If it warns of fragmentation, do not defragment. It is much faster to
erase all files or format the card, then copy everything you want back to it.
Rule of thumb: if you have to delete a file, you should delete them all.

About random crash:
The reason is because some MK4-mini burn with a wrong code during produce,
please check your MK4-mini version mark above the golden finger, if you
can see your MK4-mini is "MAGICKEY4-Mini VE1" or "MAGICKEY4-Mini VL2"
version and with PURPLE PCB color, then mean your MK4-mini MAYBE have
problem, and notice please:
[1] Except these 2 version, all other version working fine without any
    random crash matter;
[2] Not all of these 2 version will crash, just SOME of them;
[3] If your MK4-mini have random crash matter and it's in these 2 version,
you can send back to the shop and ask for replacement.

I need help, I can't find the version of my MK4-Mini and I still have a freezing issue. I bought my MK4-Mini along with my Neo2-SD right when it came out. What version would that be?

Let's all congratulate Neoflash Team for making a major release, as well as all the testers who have been working hard behind the scene.  You guys deserve the credit.

It appears to me that I have a defected MK4-mini unit (the one that Dr. Neo mentioned has bad code burned in).  Here is a picture.  I have already sent queries to IC2005 and find out how the replacement process works.  Hopefully the cost to replace my unit isn't a lot.

I have tested two games so far with the new firmware.  FF3-DS definitely sees a lot of improvement.  Wifi seems to work, no random freezes in 30 minutes, and it can save!  However, I got one white screen freeze when I setup my Wifi settings and return to the main menu.  But overall, I see significant improvement from V1.2beta.  Children of Mana single player mode seems to be flawless.  I don't have the opportunity to test multiplayer mode yet but I will try to do so this week.

GBA support seems to be non-existent.  It still say "Unknown File Type".  For homebrew, I tried DSOrganize (Grey).  It boots but stops with an error (card not compatible with Chishm's FAT library).  I will try some more homebrew and see if I have any luck.  Will keep everyone informed.

Happy New Year everyone!

EDIT: Update on DSOrganize.

Thank you for the picture I thought it was on the front, the explanation wasn't that good for finding it. I have a VL2 and I am now contacting IC2005 on getting it replaced. Just so you know I am getting a worse freezing problem than before and it sometimes freezes too much to even play a game. Like the New Super Mario Bros. Freezes before I can save.

Great news, this is a great release for Neo2 firmware. This seems is getting a lot near to a stable release of the NEO2 Menu.

Thanks a lot to all Neoflash staff and betatesters, now I will start saving money for getting Neo2+MK4.

What about the IR Remote stuff? It could be quite nice if you open some small SDK for it and doing a "Neo2 Coding compo" for creating specific stuff for the Neo2 cart, like a great IR Remote control app and other thingies. Follow some guidelines and great prices, then the winners will have their apps on the Neo2 menu and receive great pieces of hardware (a Wii, for example, could be great).

Does the Chishm's NDS FAT lib is confirmed to being supported? A new version appeared supporting Neo2? Or Neo2 "simulates" the behaviour of some known GBA/NDA flash cart?

Does the GBA support will be released soon?

Does the 128M Zip RAM can be used for homebrew? Imagine using it for multimedia playing, it could accelerate the decoding and able to play stuff before was impossible. What about supporting the Opera browser? It's quite known there are some flash carts supporting it after patching it, it could be nice if someone gives detaills about how to patch them and if Neo2 will can support something similat in the future.

Keep on, this is getting better :D

PS: What about a "Biblical Magi" release? I'm not christian but... ;)

how often does the mk4 mini have to screw up in order to know you have a defective one. I have a mk4 mini VL2 and it screws up randomly. Depending on the game i could go 1 minute to 1 hour before it freezes.

timofonic: libfat (http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/libfat/index.html) has support for Neo2-SD directly, as you can see on the DLDI page: http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/index.html

GBA support is planned, but we don't have a release date set.

The Zip RAM can be used by homebrew. We're thinking about releasing some Neo2 source code at some point.

LinkArt: VL2 could have the problem.

About libfat support: I don't see the SRC (source code) available. Why the dldi file is available but not the source code for developers?

About the Opera browser: sorry, I was confused with a post I readed some days ago. It's still not possible yet, the RAM pack is stil necessary :(

Thanks a lot for your reply ;)

DSOrganize doesn't work out of the box.  I try to patch in the Neo 2-SD libfat support but the patcher reports no DLDI section found in DSOrganize Gray's NDS file.  Any testers have success with this homebrew?  Thanks!

I'm sure you can email chishm to get the source code. I don't know why he doesn't have it on his website. That's weird.

For anyone trying to get other homebrew working and the DLDI patcher isn't compatible, my suggestion would be contacting the homebrew developer, and having them update to the latest libfat, so that you can use the DLDI patchers.
