[NDS GAME] Scribble Jump DS
« on: August 03, 2010, 05:41:39 PM »
Nickname: s_hansse
Project name: Scribble Jump DS (demo1f2)
From: germany
Division: Retro GAME
Platform: NDS
Original enter: YES
Support Motion: YES
In last NEO Compo this project have won in the top 10: NO

homepage: http://cojobo.net/~s_hansse/download/scribblejump/index.php?lg=en
download: http://cojobo.net/~s_hansse/download/scribblejump/index.php?action=download&lg=en
blog: http://s_hansse.drunkencoders.com

Project description:

Initially I wanted to make a Doodle Jump for the DS, but LimaSky (the maker of Doodle Jump) forbid that :(
So I made up my own graphics and my own sounds. :)

Some people helped me to translate this game into seven languages:
- german
- english
- frensh
- italian
- spanish
- netherlands
- swedish

How to use:

Go to http://cojobo.net/~s_hansse/download/scribblejump/download.php?version=latest and download the scribblejump.zip. edit: if you had really been on the version=latest page, you had got the newest version, but I forgot to change the real link (HATE this BBCode)
Extract it and follow the REAME_en.txt for more instructions.

If you have DSMotion, you can control the Scribble (the blue thing) by rotating your DS (like  in Doodle Jump for the IPodTouch).
If you do not have DSMotion you have to use the Pad or the Stylus to control the Scribble.

For those who don't know Doodle Jump:
The Scribble jumps constantly. You can move it to the right or to the left and have to get as high as possible by jumping on different platforms.
There are also items which help you to jump higher or prevent monsters from hurting you.

You should start with the "help" - level in the main-screen.

There is also a leveleditor which you can use to make your own levels. (which will appear in the data/sj-level folder).
You can download new levels (and upload your own, if you register) here: http://cojobo.net/~s_hansse/download/scribblejump/index.php?action=level&lg=en.

I hope you like this game as much as the over 300 people who downloaded it yet.

Edit:

Quote
Changelog:
- there are now three modes:
  - adventure mode: unlock the next level by getting through
  - infinite: the "play all"-mode
  - own levels: play your own levels
- if you only play one level (everything except infinite), the time is your score
- each level has its own highscorelist
- you can play the level direct in the leveleditor
- added an easier Stylus-Control (the second in option-menu)
- slower scrolling (if you need to scroll further, press UP)
- italian translation by Nhoya
- spanish translation by fincs
- fixed some other bugs and improved other things

I also changed the folder structure:

new levels are now in sj-levels
missions are in sj-missions
highscores are in sj-highscores
Missions have this format (no mission-editor yet): level1;0;level2;0;level3;0;level4;0;

Pretty cool game.
Reminds me of Icy Tower :D
My suggestions though :
-Add a random mode, which randomly put stuff around, kind of an infinite mode.
-Have some kind of static scrolling...? Sometimes you jump, think you'll fall on a platform, but the stage scroll so you die =/
-Enable character on the top screen, would be really cool ^^
-Different randomly picked sound, boing-boing-boing can be annoying, haha.

Good luck in the contest ! You have a good game there, and you can still improve, don't you think ?

By the way.
I read a bit on your blog. Don't worry about switching from PaLib to Libnds. There are a lot of things I still don't understand, but it is WAY better ^^
I tried to used PaLib to do some kind of a RPG using 3D functions of PaLib, and got discouraged cause of bugs and feature lacking. I now know I can do it with libnds.
Don't stop making games, you'll like the switch. Just an advice from me, hehe =D

thx for your suggestions.
- Instead of a random mode I want to make sth. like this:
Quote
I want to make three modes:
- adventure mode (or however it will be called): Unlock the next level by getting through this one
- infinite level: a infinite level builded by randomly drawing the levels on your flashcard
- custom levels: play your own levels
- I'll improve the scrolling
- If I would enable the character (the Scribble) on the top screen, you would not see him when he is in the gap between both screens. The question is: Shall I remove the gap between the screens or let the Scribble only jump on the bottom screen? (Another point for the bottom screen is that you can already see which monsters will come to you very soon and kill them early)
- Creating new sounds (for this contest) will be very difficult as I'm in Holidays in Wales and only got my Ubuntu-laptop(very slow) with my. may you know a programm to create sounds with linux

-Cool, really cool ^^
-Nice !
-Hm, yeah, good point, monsters... Yeah, only the bottom screen then, hehe.
-Doesn't matter, would have been cool though. And no, I don't have Linux.

just released the second fix of ScribbleJump  ::sm-10.gif::
hope you like the changes and may (any day) someone will upload some more levels on my homepage.
(If needed I could also make a mission-editor, but I think you can also make your missions on the computer).

Very fun and adictive. Indeed  it remembers me of Doodle Jump for my Iphone just like you say.
I like the aesthetics, but, hell, It's so hard I can't pass beyond third level, but I'll keep trying. Pity I don't have a Ds motion card.

Good work! ;D
Io sono difficile da accontentare

I made a mistake in my entry :'(
Code: [Select]
Go to [url=http://cojobo.net/~s_hansse/download/scribblejump/download.php?version=demo1f1]http://cojobo.net/~s_hansse/download/scribblejump/download.php?version=latest[/url] and download the scribblejump.zip. ::sm-03::

Everyone who downloaded the game over the link in the "how to play" got the wrong version ~sm-70.gif~.gif

So please (if you did not followed the "download" link) download the demo1f2!
