Miqualke's review [FR and EN]
« on: May 03, 2005, 04:22:05 AM »
Well I’m going to try to make a small review in French and in English.

I received my Neoflash today. I started to use it at lunch time after Phantom already reveal all its secret

First step:  trying to put battery in the Flashcard. It's a bit hard, but it needs to. Losing contact will make loose all GBA save game. I used a screwdriver; I think you will need one too.

Then I installed the driver kits 0.8a, plug the kit, install drivers and lunch app. No problem.
I was wondering why from the moment I installed drivers, the small green light disappears on the slim loader?
But anyway, let's continue, seems normal.

The app sees my Neoflash card. w00t \o/ !

So the first will be with my game DSBonga.

I add it without changing anything. Arf, there is a loader. I think I didn't switch to nds type.
So I restart the app in NDS type.

When I tried again small bug appears, when I try to burn it. It burned it in a second. Too quick I think so I refreshed the app and it told me he didn't see the flash card anymore.

Ok let's restart the app.
The app doesn't want to start, there were only a blank window.

So I unplugged USB restart the app, ask Phantom who answer he didn't have any of my problem, well now it seems to work, I plug again USB, a refresh, ok it's work. I retry to add DSBonga and from this point it works.

EDIT: I tried it on an other computer, I didn’t have any problem. It might be a problem of compatibility with the USB2 of my motherboard

My firmware flashed DS boot it perfectly without magic key as expected.

Well now let's try something all people are questioning, a commercial rom. I tried Metroids Rom from golden sun team because I have the original.
Let’s burn it.
Few bugs like before, nothing really important. It burned it pretty fast 160seconds for the 128Mbits.
I boot without magic key. it doesn’t work.
I try with Magic Key, with Metroid in it. It worked!!!!

Nice, let's try also the flasme trick A B X Y. It worked.
It's enough for me. I didn't try save game because I was worry about my save.

Later phantom explain to me how he think it work for save game. So no need to worry, you can have several save on a card.

Well let's make a brief summary with adds and cons:
adds:
-512 to 1024 Mbits !!
-Not so slow!
-tiny
-Nice Design
-Nice GBA loader
-Boot some commercial game
Cons
-The app need to be more reliable
-Save game system need to be improve. at least some way to backup those.
-Finition need to be improve a few
-No multiboot homrbrew yet
-Boot some commercial game :p

well If you have any question about my review or any problem to understand my poor english just post here.

================================

bref continuons.

Ma flashcard est reconnue \o/ w00t !

Flashons un jeux au hasard : DSBonga!! (mon jeux a moi)

Let’s burn it.

wow 160seconds for 128mbit? mine was more than twice the time, about 350 seconds. I have USB2.0, and I used the included extension cable, and i plugged directly into the USB port on the back of my computer. I wonder what's going on

I believe a lot of factors can influence it, just like the old parallel flashlinkers.. apps running, amount of USB devices, USB chipset, drivers..

I thought flashme only supported loading of homebrew code, what other roms load successfully with flashme?

You thought is correct.  Seems PassMe/FlashMe (maybe WiFiMe) work with commercial roms, if your using the NeoFlash GBA Flash Cart and GS team roms.  I'm guessing they have been patched for the NeoFlash GBA Flash cart.

yup seems like some patching is being done, i guess in the future roms will be patched to work with standard passme/flashme/wifime. Or maybe they already do, who knows.

Yeah mate - I tried doing saves using flashme - it works :D ... how ****ing cool is that :).  That **** game I got bundled with my DS (Asphalt racing is now an excellent 64k eeprom save cart) :) - thank god for that.  I had to pay a little extra for it and it worked out nicely ;).
