So it finally arrived to our offices at 11:43 today via DHL. I attempted to ripoff the the package as fast as possible only to be depraved even longer... Our friends in China apparantly enjoy taping stuff with masking tape, or watching us Americans get pissed off attempting to open a product thats nearly impossible to open. So after 13.4 minutes of using a screwdriver, a rusty wrench, and a chainsaw we finally got to... the 2nd layer of packaging...
So I get to the 2nd layer of wrapping determined to get to the inside of this package and surprisingly it only takes a well placed stab from a screwdrivers to get through the plastic and finally I share the same air as the NeoFlash 512MB Card.

It all comes in pretty little packaging and I do mean little. Everything fits in a box the size of your NDS. As a shop owner I'm 100% down with small packaging for cheaper shipping and less warehouse space needed.

So after talking to the NeoFlash team I found out it's best to just avoid the drivers that come with the unit and just install the verion 0.8 drivers from the page. When the units ship out to the public I'm sure it'll come with the latest drivers. The drivers install flawlessly. One slight problem I've noticed is the install does not install a start menu icon or even a desktop icon. You have to manually go into the folder on your c: drive to run the program. Not a huge big deal, it would have just been nice to have a start menu icon.

The software looks a bit confusing at first. Before you start the program you must first go into the program folder and select either a GBA mode or DS mode depending on what your writing to your flash cart. Then you may start the program. The demo card the NeoFlash team sent us came packaged with a demo of the game, they didn't tell us this so I deleted it without knowing....

First thing I tried was a GBA game. Mario Pinball was the first rom I found. Not a very good game but it was for testing purposes. The game flashed onto the card pretty quickly and the software made its own boot program so I could select between games.... One thing I didnt like is (which I'm not sure if its possible anymore) is that when you only have one game on a cart, why do you need a boot loader. My old flash cart didn't... No biggy though. Mario Pinball really took no time at all to load up. It booted to perfection. Any GBA Flash Linker can do that though. Now for the real test.

OK, so now it's time to boot up Mario64, or atleast try. So it's pretty much the same thing as loading up a GBA game except this time I shut down the program, hit the file to put it in NDS mode, and start the program back up. I add the NDS rom (note: this is not the usual Mario64DS rom going around, this is a rom released by GoldenSun). It transfers to the cart at pretty decent speed. (I'll give exact times below). I go to boot it. I also put the the top part of the unit in the NDS and boot it up, and it sees the game exactly as it did when we had the real cart inserted. Now for the test, will it boot!?

We get the familar boot process and success! It plays a commercial DS rom with no problem at all. I call this a complete success.

Thats it for part one of our review. Part 2 will be posted tonight when we get a little more in depth and also try out its emulation and other advertised features (media, txt, etc). Stay tuned.
