Title: Judges Comments
Post by: Phantom on April 01, 2006, 02:32:10 AM
My comments (I let other judges post other comments) :

1) NitroTracker by 0xtob

Professional music App... What can I add ?

2) DS Organize by DragonMinded

Alot of good thing, few more step and it will turn our NDS in a PDA.

3) Commodor 64 Emulator by GPF

Nice emulator thanks to the keyboard on the lower screen.

4) MarcaDS Arcade Emulator by Alekmaul

Good job, if only there wasn't that "cut"...

5) Watari Supervision Emulator by Normmatt

I had this one when I was young...Not so bad.

6) AVI converter by delfare

It will make homebrew better...and (really) bigger...but it's a nice work for coders

7) Yetibrowser by Smealum

It's a bit stupid to enter the name to select a file, doesn't play big gif/jpg, but with more work...come back in the next compo

8 ) Uptime DS by Freemaan

Finally a real benchmark !

9) YetAnOtherMP3Player by Birslip

"Work" but need a lot of thing before I will use it..

10) Drummers V2 by Lien

Let have fun...2 minutes (5 with friends)

*NeoKey Fileviewer : Useless
*JPEG Viewer/Scroller : Useless
DS2Key : Can't get it work
Win2DS : Can't get it work

Nintendo DS games

1)Aztec Challenge by Bodom-Child

Really good puzzle game with nice graphics. Could be a commercial game !

2)Tales of Dagur by LiraNuna

I don't look at the graphics for this one, but it's a really good start for a better and bigger game

3) GameBox-DS by Gwoin

A small set of game for fast fun, just in the mind of the DS

4) Fushido by Didou

Simple but nice puzzle game (need better graphics )

5) Cosmic Invaders by milpool

Addictive SHMUP, not too hard, not too easy (after level 6), nice work

6) Tetris&Touch by Payk

THE Tetris, nothing less...and nothing more. No A or B Mode and so on... Could be better

7) Hero by AronBS

A good demo, but gameplay and graphics need to be improved (jumping is strange and it's too dark, look like the first Castlevania on the first GBA...)

8 ) CuTrIx by jandujar

Interesting Tetris, Cutrix mode isn't IMO a good idea, reverse playing and hiding part of the gamescreen is more a problem than a game mode (sorry but after Tetris DS we know that Tetris game mode can be unlimited AND fun)

9) Dance 'n Shoot by The_Legend

Good Idea but too much thing to do in the same time (when it doesn't have a bug)

10) DiggerDS by Sektor

Funny game but awful graphics and "just" a port...

11) Sonic Ball by N64Francois

Sonic is too slow, the pad is slower, not enought power up...need work

12) DSudoku by Ben2303

One more Sudoku on DS the gameplay could be improved, here it's just not fun to complete it.

13) FeeDaFish by dieudunet

Don't had fun with it, sorry...

14) Touch & Bomb by Tipiak

Unfortunatly not as good as the SM64DS mini game.

15) Vicepoker DS by kenzokabuto

What wasn't ripped ? Well, just don't like this kind of game...

16) The floaters and eric by Kak

Alpha release, isn't it ? No good Bomberman clone on the DS actually, but you can do it !

17) PaperFootball by YaW

Paper game on the DS, almost useless...

18) Jugglers by Groquick

Game And watch clone...gameplay problems

19) DS Slime by jandujar

To fast, no AI, no graphics....

20) RapiDS by freemaan

Shame on you

1) Oldschool Library by Brunni

This is what will make the PSP homebrew explosion !

2) FileAssistant++  by 71M

Simply the best tool for your PSP

3) Titan Homebrew Manager  by McZonk

A really good idea ! With a good server (and a better design) it could be one of the must have apps of the PSP (Those you know Yum will agree)

4)PSP---OSS 0.3 Dev by Mond

I like the way it work, pmp playing etc...

5)PSPosx...  by Slasher

A bit to heavy for the PSP IMO...

6) AFKIM - Universal Instant messaging client by danzel

An IRC client with the ability to use a special server to chat with IM. 5 minutes to enter nickname and password ... 10 minutes a line... (but great design...)

6) PSPJabber  by davgav

Almost like AFKIM, this time it's jabber...

8 )psp-gnuboy by HamsterBert

Just a port and not as good as what we already have

8 )pspadrive by HamsterBert

same as before...

8 )pspFCEUltra by HamsterBert

again...

11)Pspaint by Aerol33t

Useless

12)Etch A Sketch 1.0  by Dark Killer

Funny 20 seconds to remind our 4 years old time...

13)PDLPv4.0 (PSPdizaster lua paint v4.0) by psp333

One more paint again...in LUA, useless too

14)Chuck Norris fact viewer by Sektor

100% useless

2.0 and more only can't test (and not homebrew for me)
PDWE (psp dizaster wma enabler) by supa_sick
PDWPv1.0 (psp-dizaster Win Portal v1.0) by DreaDNoughT

Yeah thanks for the comments.
Tho I dont think I deserved the graphics comment since i think its a matter of lack and not bad, We are basically the only ones with decent home made graphics imo. Also, I guess you talk about 'fun' when you critisize the gameplay, one you learned the attack system I think its really cool.

and further excuses: We're still like highschool kids so the time to put in more stuff didnt really exist =)

Thanks for the comments(again) makes it easier to improve :D

Edit - Btw phantom, Wich is the first GBA?? are there more than one.

I _REALLY REALLY_ think Hero should've gotten a higher place. I enjoyed playing it as any other non-homebrew game. Graphics can just add a few points.

To Hero coders: hope to see updates of this one!

Thanks for the feedback Phantom, The keyboard is the number one thing on the list to be improved.
Yes afkim is an IRC Client that doesn't let you get on irc, but as much as I would of liked to port libgaim or something to PSP it was an epic task, so the easier option was taken.

That is why I think someone who add an harder worker should have the first place. I'm a coder too, and I know that an Irc client is work, but not as much as, hum... make a lib ...

I wish I could see the other judges opinion... couldn't make an adjustment to the game difficulty, 'cause I only tested it on emulators... but at least according to one judger I was on top 10, that's good  :D

think about it, people will have the summerholidays to make apps.. jeez, I don't even dare to think of the standart of the next apps.. I bet they're gonna be as hell advanced  ::sm-04::

On the sideline, its very nice to see better apps on the DS.. its like a dream comming true  :-*

well, if you look at both past compos, there were more entries on games then on apps :o

I don't aim 1st place (I know there are a lot of people out there that work directly with programing and know a lot more then me, and there are also the ones who have more free time then myself), so scoring on top ten is enough for me :P

but I'll make a good app, wait 'n see  ;D

Post by: d-loader on April 01, 2006, 11:55:49 PM
well, I was a bit embarrased about my entry, but I'll update soon enough.. already starting to implent more features  :-\

Its like.. every Neocontest sets a new milestone for the programming standart.. try to compare these entries with the last ones.. see a diffrence?.. truely! .. and the entries at the next contest might be even more complex, wait and see

I don't think more complex == better... the best app/game IMO is the one that is more functional / better to play, so maybe I've got a chance to gat something :P
Title: Re: Judges Comments
Post by: d-loader on April 03, 2006, 04:00:41 AM
actually, thats what I ment, when I said "more complex".. yeah, more functionel, and able to do more advanced stuff.. I need to learn how to express myself  ::sm-02::

Nintendo DS games

15) Vicepoker DS by kenzokabuto

What wasn't ripped ? Well, just don't like this kind of game...

I accept the final results, and I even agree on the final chart, it was only about games and just to have fun, so I don't think that people should complain about their placement. But I don't like this comment because it states the false. Of course I don't know the women in the video (I wish I did :-) ), so I got the source footage from somewere else; but other than that, the backgrounds, the intro, the 3d rendering, the AI, the game code and even the video codec, which is widely appreciated and used in many commercial games, everything was all made by myself. So, while I can understand you if you don't like the game, and you have the right to say that, I think that your comment on the origin of the software was simply not fair

Thanks everybody (else) for all the fun you shared with me on this competition, You rock guys!

I would like to know what the public votes were from as they were counted in the final points
