Hello to all.
I recently received a NeoFlash 512 kit, and while trying to install the SlimLoader III in my computer (Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2, Intel D845WN motherboard) the driver refuses to be read or installed.
This is the procedure I followed:
1- Installed Neo Power Kit 1.4 (I have also tried 1.3 and 1.0)
2- Connected the SlimLoader III to one USB port on the back side of the motherboard (directly, using no extension cable)
3- Found New Hardware wizard appeared.
4- Browsed to C:/NEO Power Kit/USB_Driver
After clicking 'OK', instead of watching the wizard look for the .inf and .sys files, the wizard just says Cannot install this hardware, The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software
I have tried using the enclosed CD, and downloaded 1.3 and 1.4 software versions, with Firewall and antivirus both disabled.
I have tested the SlimLoader in another computer and it works flawlessly, but my personal computer is the one not liking the SlimLoader.
Any help for me to enjoy my Christmas gift would be greatly appreciated

Do you have other devices hooked up to your USB ports? or other linkers installed already? Have you tried different ports on the PC, someone also mentioned elsewhere that the linker does not behave on the USB ports attached to the motherboard if the pair is used, but does work fine if only one of the side-by-side pair is used.
-
I am having the exact same problem. The loader installed fine on my desktop PC but Windows does not recognize the driver when I try installing on my laptop.
-
try deleteing this key from the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\USB\Vid_ffab&Pid_cd03
start/run
type regedit
browse through the tree till you get to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\USB
select the folder:
Vid_ffab&Pid_cd03
press delete.
-
It seems the problem is my Windows installation....
So, I will reinstall it...
Thanks for all your help Cory, I really appreciate your time and willingness to help.
Just another question
Is there any way to trick Neo Power Kit to load other files to the NeoFlash cart?
I want to use MoonShell on my DS, but I'm not able to load .spc, .nsf, and other kinds of files MoonShell supports, because those formats are not files NeoPowerKit supports..
Thanks for all.
-
MoonShell is for adaptors like the gbamp/supercard/m3 so you cant use it on the neoflash cart maybe in the future when neoflash release their mk2 lib MoonShell will be able to work with the mk3 by reading files off the sd/mmc card
-
Normatt, that is not true.
In moonshell there is a directory called files. If you put your files into it and run the "create_exfs" batch file, it will create ROM with your files in it. There is a limit though, anything after 32MB will not be readable on your flashcart.
I know this works as its what I used in MoonShell V6, apparently V7 and V8 have not been tested thouroughly with this method, but it should still work.
-
The limit for Cartridge based media (to be played on moonshell) is 32 Megabytes or 32 Megabits?
BTW, Cory, Moonshell v 0.8 can be used in NeoFlash following the method you suggested, thanks a lot.! ;D
-
32MB not 32Mbit ;)

**** this product mate...
Dont support these ****s... because they wont support u soon.
(No offence to you Cory, your the only decent guy here)
Buy something else better :)
-
You've complained enough about the mk1 patcher not being supported anymore (this isn't anything new that hasn't already been mentioned in the past). The situation is likely not going to change, either. So your posts aren't adding any additional value to the boards (and definitely not helping anyone coming here for help with their neoflash products).
People can make their own decisions about what they want to purchase. No one is being coerced to buy anything (there is an extensive FAQ/help section that users can access before deciding to purchase).
If you are not happy, you are free to sell your mk1 and purchase something else..

Defend it all you want, you still know its true.
*ends rage*
-
You have already stated the obvious (you are not the first one to express your displeasure). So why rehash the same item over and over again, especially when the situation is likely not going to change as a result? Of course, all of the users (including myself) would want the older products to receive support, but we don't have any control over that....

Dr. Neo is the one to blame here.
He has control.

OK, when you right click on it does it say permissions? This is likely the key that is causing problems on your machine, since you cant delete it, it is either beyond your user permissions or corrupted. Before you do anything below this, make sure you are logged in with an administrator account.
If it doesnt say permissions here is what you will have to do:
-open windows file manager (even just double click my computer will do fine)
-tools menu/folder options
-select view tab
-down at the bottom is "use simple file sharing (recommended)"
make sure it does not have a checkmark and press OK (this allows you to set user permissions for files and registry keys)
-restart regedit
In regedit,
-locate that key and right click on it, select permissions
-in the top part pick the user "everyone" in the bottom part check off "full control" and press apply
-try deleting it again, if it will not go or you cannot expand it to see the keys stored inside then your registry is corrupted.
-
I have done as said and deleted with perissions enabled but windows will not install the driver :(
the green light is on the loader
please help :(
-
can someone please help me with this?

mods can we please stick to the topic i ned some help here please :)
-
Well, how about a little more information then?
Coming in in the middle of someone elses question and saying"me too"isn't a lot to go on.
Surely someone will help.
-
the start of this topic is about usb drivers refusing to install, that is my problem so rather than start another thread i hoped i would find help here but it seems all people want to do is flame each other :(
I have tried the above fix of removing the registry file, i have tried all my usb ports but the driver will not install, windows does not recognise it, i have neo power kit 2.1 for my slimloader III
i have used a usb friver for flash2advance before could that be the problem?
i have run registry mechanic to fix the registry but that hasnt helped.
please help
is that ok or am i going to be flamed for asking nicely for help...
-
I was the one who actually started this topic, and I can tell you, that, why all those fixes could help, the best solution you can do is to:
- Reinstall Windows
- Reinstall your motherboard chipset drivers
- WITHOUT INSTALLING ANYTHING ELSE, install the latest version of NeoPower Kit for your Slim Loader.
- Restart the computer
- Connect the USB Slim Loader.
That was the only way for me to make it work, but now it is working flawlessly.
If you don't want to lose your current Windows installation, just use another Hard drive to install it; I have two Operating Systems installed in 2 different Hard drives, one for normal work, one just for Neo Power Kit
Hope it helps.... 8)

is that ok or am i going to be flamed for asking nicely for help...
umm..not sure what you mean by that.
there was one monkey earlier being anidiot, and he was treated accordingly.
I don't know anything about registries or anything like that,so I hope someone else can help.
I'm just saying that there are more than a few reasons as to why the sl3 won't install.
You did what cory said, successfully, and it still didnt work,so evidently there is some other problem.
You have given a little more info now, so good luck.
Seriously,look back,man.There was just one rude person.sorry.
See-This guy here is already trying to help!(thanks, you really helped my case)

Bloaty: at what point does the install fail. Is there any error messages or anything similar to that? If it installs fine without any error messages but the light stays green then my best suggestions are:
- make sure you are not using the extension cable that came with the SL and retry your USB ports
- see if you can get a hold of a USB 2.0 hub or USB 2.0 PCI card for your computer, often that solves the problem of the light staying green (it has something to do with the power/current levels of the mobo USB chipset, where an aftermarket one just does a better job)
Your F2A driver is for an entirely different chipset. I have EZ flash, F2A USB writer, F2A USB linker and Slim Loader 4 all installed on this machine with no issues (aside from that I have a $15 PCI USB 2.0 card for when the nForce2 mobo's USB chipset fails with the device)
-
no it doesnt install at all i point windows to the drivers but all i get is unable to locate drivers etc and i get the option to go back or cancel.
i will try it on my sons machines to see if it works on either of theirs and report back.
thank you for your help so far :)
installed fine on my sons pc now to search how to use it :P
thanks again for your help :)
-
now the green light has gone off and all i get when i plug it in is a green light followed by flashing red then no light at all :(
-
That's what it is supposed to do when it is working properly. The light turns green momentarily, flashes red 3 times, then turns off completely when the drivers are loaded/recognized properly.

at last i`m getting somewhere :)
but i cant get the program to load an .nds file :(
the program recognises the slim loader and gba cartridge at the bottom of the program
is there a guide anywhere i havent looked :'(
-
If you've look in the FAQ posts sub-forum, that's where all the guides are located.

There is a basic one for using Neo Power Kit as well...
If you see your cartridge listed in the upper left hand corner when you open Neo Power kit (it's shown as "Disk"), then your cart is being detected properly.
If there are any existing files on the cart, just highlight them and click 'remove'. Otherwise, you can click 'add' to select your file, and 'burn all' to flash it.
BruceG
-
Ok top left I see cartridge, in the drop down I see "disk (0,0) on neo writer 1"
When I try to "add" a rom file the prog browses to the file but nothing happens.
in the main box i see ds booter but nothing else?
when i plug the slim loader in i get a windows baloon at the bottom of the screen saying windows does not recognise this device.
-
If you are seeing disk (0,0) on neo writer, then the cart is being detected properly by Neo Power Kit. Did you click on that 'ds booter' file first, and then click the 'remove' button. Then, you add the file you want to burn. When you are burning files using Neo Power Kit in nds mode, you can only add a single file at a time.
I don't know about your message about windows not recognizing the device. If that were the case, I don't see how the cart can even be detected in Neo Power kit.
BruceG
-
w00t something is happening lol the rom is burning thanks Bruceg for your patience will let you know what happens ;D
-
I get a white screen on the ds :(
i am using http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/dd-ds-neo512 (http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/dd-ds-neo512) with a blue NEH112... ds.
are they compatible?
If not can i exchange for something that is and if so what would you recommend
I just did the firmware test and the screen went yellow so i have fw 4 :(
thanks again for any help :)
-
Well, you have two issues to deal with....
First you have purchased the older neoflash mk1 linker set (which is no longer supported here). Thefore, you won't be able to run some of the newer commercial roms....
The most current neoflash product is the mk3. If you want one that comes bundled with a 512 Mb flashcart, this is the appropriate link:
http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/dd-nds-neo1
However, the software is still being developed, so there are still various bugs, so don't expect 100% compatibility...
Your second problem is that you have a newer firmware version that is not compatible with any magic key (mk1/mk2/mk3). This means you need to buy a separate device to add compatibility (called PassMe2). The idea is to replace your incompatible firmware with a hacked, older version that IS compatible with mk1/mk2/mk3 (through an application called Flashme). PassMe2 can be used to install the Flashme firmware on your ds.
You can purchase a PassMe2 device here, or buy equivalent commercial versions : SuperPass2, Passkey2, EZPass2.
http://www.dspassme.com/
You should read the mk2/mk3 guide for more detailed information here:
http://www.neoflash.com/forum/index.php/topic,1529.0.html
Specifically, read Requirement #2 about PassMe2, and understand that part well before even purchasing a PassMe2 device, if you decide to go that route.
BruceG
-
Thanks BruceG I am starting to understand these terms better, off to do more reading
Thanks again :)
-
If you are going to buy a PassMe2 device from that site, you buy one that has been pre-configured for a ds game cartridge you already own....
For installing the flashme application, that Pepsiman SRAM writer (called 'passme2flashme') is probably the easiest to use and understand (just flash it to your gba cart and run it).
First, it will write the SRAM data on your gba cart (for the ds game cartridge you have used to configure your Passme2 device)
Next, you connect your passme2 device (with ds cartridge inserted), re-boot your ds, and then it will run the flashme application. The flashme firmware has been updated recently, but you can always update to the latest version 7 later on...
I already have the link in the guide, but here it is again:
