Well first off one thing jumps to mind for me. After I flashed my ds with flashme 5 My ds games wouldnt work (and I had them working already with magic key). I think using neoflash and magic key to flash the bios can cause problems so it helped me to flash it 2 times. I flashed it once with magic key then I took out magic key and flashed it again doing that L+R+start+select thing and it worked all of a sudden.

I hope that helps you but i bet thats not all your problem.

This is strange,I have a Blue american DS and my original firmware(according to flashme v6) was 3.
MK used to work before flash me, but very buggy. Maybe because of the inaccurate Menu 0.3 .
I did install flashme trough the MK3 and an SD card, and it worked, but if I attempt to start it out with the L+R+Select+Start nothing happens, and I tried with every combination of in/out cards.
Also the trick to boot directly with A+B+X+Y doesn't work for me.
Is there anything wrong with my flash me ? Other then that everything seem to be fine with menu 0.4. And the picto chat trick shows me a green display.
Is there anyway to check if my flash me v6 is installed properly ?
Thanks

Well as I said magic key messed me up and i had to reinstall flashme 5. I dont know about v6 but the major difference in version 6 is the compatibility with magic key 2+3 (the magic keys with sd memory for game saves).

I wish I could help you with that info but my ds is very old and I dont have any of these newer tools. Im shure someone has made flashme compatible with the newer blue ds but keep in mind that originaly the newer ds's used to be uncompatible with these hacks, Id suggest looking for tutorials on new ds's hacking.

pete: try flashing the ROMs directly to the flashcart after running them through the patcher. Put a DS game in the DS slot, and boot up the DS while holding ABXY - this should work if you use GST Patcher 3.1 and used the GBA_save file to burn, and should work if you have matched the save size of the ROM to the save size of the DS cart in your DS slot with the NDS_save (nds save will write its save data to your NDS cart though)

q_armando: once you have installed flashme off the MK3 (which you have) then put the flashme app onto the GBA cart, and boot without MK3 using the ABStartSelect, you shouldnt have to short sl1 again and it should just re-write the unprotected area. Hopefully this will fix flashme for you as it did for frazprg

Cory,
Thank you so much for your advice, but now I am a little confused.
I did install flash me trough MK3 from the SD card, which made me think that I didn't need a flashme in the first place because MK3 was already working.
Only Menu.3 was very buggy and I thought that by installing flashme I would increase the compatibility percentage. With menu .4 everything seem to work fine, I even installed flashme6 over v5 and I did have to short sl1 again, but at the end it worked.
Now I can't really complain, because everything seem to work, only if I try the key combinations at startup nothing happens, that's why I am wondering if there is anything wrong with my flasme installation(I might run into some problems in the future).

As you said, I burned the flash me installation file directly to the F2A cart, and removed the MK3 from the DS slot.
I did power up my unit and I pressed Start+Select+L+R and all I got was 2 white screens. How long do I  actually have to wait to see something happen ?I also tried to power up with a+b+x+y but still I got the white screens. Maybe I have to change the extencion of the flashme installation file from .nds to .nds.gba ?
Would that work ? But more importantly do you think there is some problem with my flashme ?
I repeat, MK3 seem to work fine with menu .4.But I am concerned that my firmware might get corrupted and I will never be able to restore it.
I would really appreciate any help, in the meantime I'll try to pass your precious teaching to other newer members if I can.
Cheers

EDIT: I start to think that my old Flash2Advance 256M is not compatible with .NDS files, therefore the installation file for Flashme has no chance to start from my F2A cart. But it worked when I put it on the SD card trough MK3.
Can anyone confirm this, so I can put my mind to rest ? :)

OK,
hopfully this might help some people out there(not too sure)

I have a Blue American DS. Original firmware, according to Flashme v6 was version 3.
It did work from the beguinning with MK3 ,even before flashme, although not perfectly , maybe due to the instability of Menu 0.3
I did install Flashme v5 from the MK3 SD card(1G Sandisk) and I had to short SL1 like everybody else.
I did update to Menu 0.4 and to Flashme v6 still from the SD card and I did have to short SL1 one more time.
Everything seems to be fine, however when I power up the unit with the button combination Start+Select+L+R nothing happens but 2 white screen(I feel at risk because if my firmware gets somehow corrupted I will not be able to restore it).

Today , I used NDSMALL.BIN, from Darkfader site to create a file called Flashme.ds.gba from the original flashme.nds(v6)
Usage of NDSMALL.BIN is :

copy /b ndsmall.bin + demo.nds demo.ds.gba

I burned my  newly created Flashme.ds.gba to my F2A cart and reinstalled flasme v6 from there.
This time I did not have to short SL1.

Now when I start the gba with button combination Start+Select+L+R, the system brings me to the usual DS boot menu where I can start from DS slot,Gba slot ,pictochat etc...
Does it mean that I fixed my flashme this way ?
Because I tried to put a flashme.nds file on the F2a cart afterwords and started with button combination Start+Select+L+R and nothing happened but white screens.
Any Ideas?

the drivers can be found in the neomax app or the neo powerkit app after installing them.

C:\NEO Power Kit\USB_Driver

C:\Program Files\Neo Max\Driver\Driver Slim Loader III

Sorry, I missed some questions; Please note the BOLD stuff, as you seem to have missed it in my first post.

The PassMe mode of flashme can be started either by having the correct game header in the first ROM on the GBA cart, or by holding A+B+X+Y when turning on the DS.

FlashMe's recovery mode is ran by holding A+B+Start+Select (dont know where you all got A+B+L+R, only thing I can think of for that one is the SE menu on a M3/G6)

flashme.nds, renamed to flashme.gba and with the nds loader prepended as mentioned above, put on a F2A cart with no boot menu enabled (in usbwriter/powerwriter 2.61 you just put the single rom and it automatically puts no loader) runs fine for me. If the boot menu is written, it is GBA code and will give you white screens. Im not certain of the steps required to disable the loader with F2A writer 3.1 though, it could be as simple as unchecking loader in the apps options.

Oh man,
I feel so embarrassed now... :-[
How could I miss that little detail...I was sure I read somewhere the sequence was LRStartSelect....
Anyhow same thing , when I try abStartSelect I am automatically brought to the DS regular boot menu.
Does anybody know what does flashme show when the recovery mode is iniciated ? Does it say anything at all ?
This seems to be the only thing I am not able to do now, everything else is working pretty well, so I am just wondering.
However, I think it's quite important to get it right because my DS life might depend on that one day, even if I am extremely cautious about the code I run on it ,one never knows... ;)

PS
Or could it be that the recovery mode is only available when the firmware gets corrupted?
I need to know...

If I put the flashme.nds file directly off the flashme site on my neomax cart, and hold ABStartSelect and turn on my DS I see:
Top screen turns off, I release the buttons
Flashme installer pops up asking me to press XBXB

I have tested this with the DSbricker trojan taihen.nds just now (ran it from an EZ1 card) and I bricked my DS. I was able to recover my DS using the NeoMax I had just checked with the buttons for you, and when I booted with ABStartSelect the firware updater menu came up (with some really odd version info - curr v-256 init v-V), I did xbxb waited about 5 seconds and my DS is now fixed/back to normal. (guessing I will have to do wifi setup again in MKDS though)

Thank you,
that is exactly what I needed to know, at least now I know what to be looking for.
It still doesn't work for me, but I suspect at this point that it's my old F2A cart(not Ultra) fault and I am seriously thinking of getting a new  Neo 1G now to get some issues resolved.
Again Thanks,
This disussion has been very enlightful indeed.

Which writer does your old F2A use? Is it burning with powerwriter/USB writer and the USB linker or do you have the old parallel parallel Flash Advance writer one?

I think there is a way to turn off the loader in FA writer, but its been a long time since I have used that app. It should work if you can put 1 gba file on it without the loader (although I have heard the old FA carts tend to wratch the first bit of the flash ROM after a while)

At any rate, if you are considering replacing it and have the parallel port one, I have been looking for an old Flash Linker parallel port writer for a while and would be interested in it.

I am sorry Cory,
but it's just a regular USB writer that I own with a F2A 256Mbit cart.
The menu boots well and MK3 works althoght I have a few issues like everybody else.
The loader is disabled with F2a usb writer, and the neo boot menu works from the F2A cart without any problem.
It's only that the key combination to restore the firmware doesn't work for me, but I'll ivestigate further when I get my new cart.
Thanks for helping.

You did burn the flashme.nds to the cart before trying the keys, right? (it would actually act as if you just ran it directly) Some other stuff boots with the recovery keys, but not much.
