Title: hi guys, i'm having problems with GST
Post by: kunocorp on January 20, 2006, 07:35:59 AM
My problem is I dont know how to use it. I dont know what it's purpose is or how to get it to work for me. I want to play games like DBZ supersonic warriors and mario and luigi, and I heard I can thru GST but I have NO idea what I'm doing. I've searched the site by everything is explained in unclear terms. I have the neomaxx 1Gb kit.  thanks for a point in the right direction.

yeah, go to cory's FAQ section here for all the info on how to get started:

If you are referring to the GST (Golden Sun Team) rom patcher, you don't need to use this anymore in order to patch clean rom dumps, if you are using the menu software that works with your mk2/mk3.   You just load the CLEAN dumps directly onto the SD card.

thank you for the linbk, but I cant get certain games to work such as trace memory, sims 2, dbz 2 and mario and luigi. do you know of any special way to make these games work, I've tried lots of methods

easiest way (requires more patience, though) is to wait for the next menu release to fix all the bugs.  If you are playing from the SD card directly, game compatibility is very low now.  If you've tried flashing to the cart, and still have problems, it's a bug with the software.  Best method is to flash to the mk3 internal memory, but you need a mk3 512 to do that for larger games (and there are bugs there as well).

Have you followed the FAQ and tried gst-patcher 3.4r to flash the game onto your cart directly??  That seems to provide better compatibility for problem games...

Other users are rebuilding their game files too (can search for those threads) to get them to work, but I personally just wait until the problems get fixed in the software.

I have tried to patch and burn directly to the cart but it has never worked. for DBZ it just shows two black screens. I can wait till the next realease, I have other working games to play in the meantime

yeah, you're right, that game doesn't work using gst-patcher 3.4r.  trace memory, though, worked in a previous menu when flashing to the flashcart.

Try 'em and find out, its the best way to know for sure...

Quote
DBZ2: Used Neo-Max (cart + MK3), and the GST 3.4 patcher (no SD inserted) flashed with NPK 1.2 and Metroid Demo in the MK3 - it is working perfectly.

edit:/ OK, I just found something interesting out, DBZ is on the flashcart, I put the MK3 in without any game in it, and boot with flashme (ABXY) - the game gives the error message about the game card removed after making a cracking noise. I tried with Metroid demo, Mario64, Madden 2005 and Polarium US in the MK3- they all worked except Polarium (error message)

edit:/ I just tried it (DBZ JPN) with 3.4r and it is not working (black screens). Trying again with 3.4 as I did previously to see if NPK is the problem

edit2:/ It seems to me that 3.4R was released to fix a problem with Mario Kart saves, which could have easily messed up DBZ... at any rate use 3.4, as it does work for that one ;)

I added 3.4 to my FAQ for download, it can be gotten here:
