I just got a reply from the makers of M3:On 1/25/06, Danny
<info@m3adapter.com> wrote:
Hi ,
M3 can support CF TypeI & CF TypeII, but CF TypeII (Microdrive)can not be put into our adapter due to the TypeII CF card is thick, except M3 adapter case is taken apart.
We suggest that CF TypeI is suitable.

Danny
I asked if my Hitachi 4GB Microdrive will work with it. Unless im reading this wrong but does he say It WILL read TypeII and my Microdrive SHOULD fit without the case?
Im wondering this cuz im pretty sure i could crack it open and shave down the case enough so it will fit. --Question-- How much thicker is TypeI from TypeII?--
Im getting a FW 2 DS (blue gray on pictochat test) so no need for Passkey2.. So since i have SD cards laying around do you think it is worth it to go with Mk2 or Mk3?
I Need info on NDS and this sorta thing. I think i have a idea about it but always like some response.
1. NDS FW2
2. M3 CF Adapter, modded to fit my microdrive
3. Hitachi 4GB Microdrive (typeII)
4. MK2/MK3, Passme, Passkey,Passkey2,Superkey...ect...ect... :(
Will the M3 in your opinion be worth the hassel to mod it for my Microdrive (saves money!!!)
-Or-
Skip it all and go with MK3, 512MB cart, SD Card
***Costs alot more then i want to spend/have to spend***

Yes , M3 can read the type II , you may shave down the inside plastic to fit your microdrive inside .
--M3
Great news, so now its down to Mk2 or not? i know this site is makers of MK's and the response of course will be buy our product. I want to know though If im going with the M3 will it make a difference to me?(ex. will the sram in the cart be better for me to get or will the M3 handle any saving i need?)
also diff in Passkey 1 and passkey2? incase i buy them in a combo from divineo.

Aparently you may only be able to use 2gig of your microdrive after modding the m3... for more info and user based discussion on M3 and its quirks (yes, there are still some problems with it, other than its size), I think there is even a thread there about using it with a microdrive too.
http://www.m3-forum.com/
I think there is even some info on PassKey/PassKey2 etc there.
Be warned though, while Magic Key 2/3 will work fine as a passme, all current releases of the boot menu will not run on an M3 without modification (I have not tested the menu with pepsimans poweron thing yet).
PassKey 2 is for new firmware DS's (actually, its compatible with all DS's) and PassKey 1 only works on old firmware DS's. PK2 is harder to setup initially, so if you dont need it then dont get it.
There should be enough info on this forum and the M3 unofficial forum for you to make an informed decision and get the most out of your money.
I personally have a M3-SD, SC-SD, NeoMax, MK2/MK3 (all of them) and have to say at this point the most bang for the buck goes to supercard SD (it is cheap and the software is stable right now, at least for DS things), but I pin most of my hopes/expectations, and often look for updates to the MK 2/3 software, since I know it will eventually do alot more than it currently does, and offers things that the others dont (rom dumping, save emulation without using GBA cart SRAM, transparent patching, on the fly cart burning).
Each device has its plus and minus list, and depending on what you are using it for (cough *piracy versus development*) it is up to you to figure out what you need to do what you want.

Ya what im trying to get is the cheapest flash at the highest mem. i have both versions of the GBAMP and i know that i can trust the M3. I found a old 128MB cf type I yesterday and the size of type 2 is about twice as thick. the guy at M3 said i should be able to make it work.
I was searching around since i purchased my DS last night. and i found the m3 wiki, and m3 forums.
Thanks for the help.
