The furthest I can get it to go is to the first zombie. Until the software is updated, it's currently not playable.

The only ideal solution now is to get a larger flashcart -- or else wait for a mk3 1024 internal flash to be introduced, if you're sticking with Neoflash products.
One can wait for the SD compatibility and speed issues to get resolved, but it doesn't appear that it's going to happen anytime in the near future. I don't mind waiting -- I'm just hoping that they can find a satisfactory solution.

Personally, I think that improving the SD reading speed is the way to go for the future.
Let's face it, even if they do a 1024 Mk you still will be limited to flash 1 game at the time(if it's a large game, but this is what we are talking about) and it will take a long time to burn it to the flash memory.
And then eventually bigger games will come out, and at that point we should all buy a third, bigger MK.
If SD reading speed gets improved(which can be done completely in software) we will be able to play games right out of the SD card, with no whatsoever size limits and burning waiting times, this way even if bigger games come out, we won't be needing extra hardware.
However, if SD speed remains this low....I am afraid I will have to look somewhere else for other solutions.

No, not currently (fortunately there are hardly any 1 gig roms out there now).. You need to just wait to see how much sd card speed/compatibility improve.
Right now, they're still adding features and fixing significant bugs in the menu (such as the ones involving saving)... afterwards they'll probably address the other important issues
