Title: Neo Power Kit V2.1 freezes at startup
Post by: NoMis on January 31, 2006, 11:11:09 PM
I cant start up the application it always freezes at the beginning. The driver is detected. I did a complete reinstall like described in the FAQ.

After I kill the process and replug the SlimLoader III screen goes blank and the PC reboots from bios.
After that it will always restart whenever I reinstall the driver or plug in the loader until I do a clean reinstall of the drivers.

I tried every USB port but none works.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I tried it on my laptop now. It has another issue. It detects the driver and can start the application. It also detects my card correctly but when I add a rom and start flashing the process will always stay at 0% and the led on the slimloader stays dark.

For your computer, I'm not sure what the issue could be since it sounds like you are following the correct procedure (what type of motherboard is it -- Nforce ??)  Nforce 2 caused problems for some people, but I don't recall the computer automatically rebooting.  Is this the first version of Neo Power Kit you are installing, or are you upgrading from a previous version that worked before?

For your notebook, a lot of people have that problem.  The usb ports on the notebook aren't strong enough, so you generally need to buy a separate usb hub with an external power supply (don't know if that would fix your first problem, though)

Yes I have an Nforce 2 board (Asus A7N8X-XE). Actually it worked on my previous mainboard (an MSI also Nforce 2) wich I replaced because it did not had sata.

I also used XGPro 1.20 back then, since my card is actually an XG2 Turbo.

Since that drivers did not work with the new mainboard I switched to the Neo Toolkit since the XG guys stated that this would support my card as well (they are the same after all).

But it is still not working. Seems that it might indeed be a problem with the new mainboard but I don't understand why the old mainboard worked since they are both Nforce 2.

It is more to do with how the chipset is accessed. NForce MOBO's are known to have problems with peripheral chipsets (onboard video, ATA, and especially USB). Most things generally work, but I think in your case there is something else amiss that is generating a bios level protection fault, perhaps too large of a power draw directly to the mainboard power bus.

Im going to assume that you have tested the USB ports with other devices (like a mouse or similar) to be certain the wiring that would be installed to the case USB ports isnt the culprit, for the following advice:

Your best bet would be to try a PCI USB 2.0 card on that motherboard (they are not expensive, around 10-15 USD) and see if the fault still happens. Or the hub and only use the laptop.

Got a Belkin 5 Port USB 2.0 PCI Card. Works like a charm now.
