Title: Save restoring failed
Post by: Knoppix on February 05, 2006, 12:38:56 AM
Hello everyone, i've a strange problem ;

the command "Restore all" don't works, i'm not a new user and before it was working well, so i'm surprised that now it's impossible to restore.

I tried to change the battery but have the same result.

With Etool i saved a savegame eeprom to Sram and it works, th problem should be in the npk software i supposed

Have you any idea ?    Thanks.

You need to click on a rom on the cart or else the restore all function won't work.

you can get it to restore in NPK 2.1, but they probably still need to fix this function  in a future release.  You click and highlight the rom name or 'restore all' won't do anything.  THen, it brings up a dialog and you enter a '*' wildcard character in the file name (like angelfly said previously), and then it shows all the files.  Then you can select a file and restore it.

Bruce, he said, that he knew how it worked. It's not that he didn't select a ROM via NPK, but that the restore function as is, doesn't work.
I suggest you check your Cart after you tried to restore any savegames if it still holds any savegames. I suppose that your SRAM gets deleted or corrupted from NPK or your cartreader (which one do you have?), that's why the restore function seems not to work. It actually works, but it saves, thus restores an empty/ corrupted SRAM ;). It's a common problem and well covered on this boards. Cory said, that it would be a trial and error situation to save and restore SRAM via NPK.
Good luck, and if you find something out, let me know, because I do have this very problem.
Greetings

yeah you're right... the SRAM save/restore is very unreliable ('hit or miss'), so that's probably the problem...  The only solution to that is to upgrade to mk2/mk3 since it saves to the magic key directly (though, they haven't worked out all the bugs yet)

It is tough, I had to try 3 times before I was able to get the save to write back to the cart with 2.1. IIRC the last version I did not have problems with restoring/backing up saves was around 1.2 or so...
