aight so i follow the directions givin by the install disk and by the 2.0 version of neo power kit, softwear for the neo powerkit installs fine, then it comes time to install the slim loader.
plug in the slim loader comes up with "found new hardware wizard" like always go to select location to the "c:\NEO Power Kit\USB_driver\CD03 -Slim loader 3" folder click next gives me the message "Cannot install this Hardware" ~ the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software. message..... i attempt installing it from the cd with the older version of the program and recieve the identical message? any suggestions would be really appretiated :(
System Specs:
Microsoft Windows XP pro Sp1. (sp2 sucks my balls so i went back to sp1)
Amd Athlon 64 3200+
1.5gb Corsair PC4000 xms pro
geforce 6800gt

I would try installing Neo Power Kit 2.1 (the latest version can be found in the Neo Announcements forum). Do a complete uninstall of 2.0 first. The drivers on the cd are usually really old stuff, so I don't bother..
I get the "found new hardware wizard" when I use my front usb ports, instead of the main ones in the back. Have you tried ALL your main usb ports (not using a usb extension cord since that weakens the signal)?? If you have a usb pair, try disconnecting the other device and give the Slimloader it's own dedicated port to test if that works..
You're looking for the Slimloader unit to flash green once and red three times... That means it's recognized and drivers are properly loaded...

BTW What type of motherboard do you have?

Gigabyte K8nXP and yes ive tried dedicating it to it's own port and usb controler still gives me the message with and without the cable. got a linky for 2.1 bychance? the led hasn't flashed at all, just stays a solid green?
-
The LED wont flash until the driver loads the service in windows, which means it needs to be installed first.
Try and use the .inf files from "/Neo Power Kit/USB_drivers" and not the one from "/Neo Power Kit/USB_drivers/CD03 -Slim loader 3"
2.1 can be found here:

does not work still getting the "the location spesified does not contain information about your hardware" message with any version of slim loader inf ????

I'm not familiar with nforce 4 chipsets, and if they have any compatibility issues with Slimloader.. You could try deleting the registry key mentioned here (bottom part of the discussion in the link -- be VERY careful if you decide to do it), but I have a feeling this won't help either.

There was another user who had a similar problem a while back, but he had to do a total re-install of his OS to get it to work.. I don't know if you have other device drivers that may possibly be causing conflicts.
I'm also not sure if a usb 2.0 pci card may help in this particular case, so maybe wait for cory to see if he has any better ideas.

itsa an nForce3 chipset but yah im prolly gonna buy a new hd like next week so ill probably be doing a full format anyhow, we'll see if that helps, yah i already deleted the reg key awhile ago, didnt make any effect gak8nxp mo-bo has usb 2.0 so maybe the usb drivers possibly got fuxzored up over time, could have happened kuz i think i havnt formatted since like summer, so im long overdue for a format anyhow.

oh ok... I have a nforce 3 motherboard myself (MSI), and it works fine on my system. However, that doesn't necessarily mean anything since southbridge configurations (responsible for communications) are usually different between different models/brands.
If you still can't get it to work after an OS re-install, maybe you can try an inexpensive usb pci 2.0 card (buy somewhere where you can return it)... this seems to work well for a lot of people. Also, if you haven't already, it would be good to test your Slimloader on another computer, just to make sure it's not defective or anything.

yah it works fine my brother is running it with no problems but yah it is pretty weird how most north bridges on nforce chipsets are identical though ya obviously its a nvidia chipset anyway, but you would think companys would try to optimise diffrent features of the nforce northbridge anyhow if reinstalling my os doesnt work i think i might try reflashing my bios fermware maybe that might partially solve the problem, could just be having compatability problems with old fermware or perhaps another usb device on the same channel. so maybe ither a bios reflash or just a fresh format might do the trick, but i guess if that fails i could always try buying a pci usb hub.

I am having the same problem can anyone help.Theres no way Im reinstalling my OS. Ive tried everything mentioned on the thread.PLEASE HELP!

If you tried everything in the FAQ section, it could possibly be a driver issue, or maybe your motherboard is just incompatible with the Slimloader device. Just to test, you might try a usb 2.0 pci card that uses a different chipset from the one on your motherboard. They're inexpensive and solve a lot of the detection issues. You can also try an externally powered usb hub that should function similarly.
