Does EEPROM and SRAM have save issues amongst each other? I heard that it does somehow, but I don't know. What is the difference? Can you have SRAM and EEPROM saved under 1 rom with no save issues? Thanks
-
umm i wouldent have a clue ::sm-03::
Dr.Neo or Cory1492 would be the best to tell you,
Try Meseging them.

Or make a thread and ask instead of bothering them....
SRAM is volatile, i.e. once the power is removed it's gone, just like the RAM in your computer.
EEPROM is NOT volatile, so even if you remove the power it'll still be there.
The catch is, SRAM is nice and quick and perfect for save games, but EEPROM is often best used to store the rom itself, as well as backup saves.
When using the neomax GBA flash cart or similar, it's best to save to SRAM while playing the game, for maximum compatibility and speed, but when you're done playing the game, back it up to the EEPROM so it's safe.
-
o ok so thats what its for :)
any way i thaught the game backed up to the battery or something ... does the battery suply the Sram with enough power to keep the save data?
That would make sence then :-[

It does make a lot of sense.
The SRAM is "kept alive" by the battery when the cart isn't getting power from the DS/GBA, but what if the battery dies?
It's always good practice to backup your SRAM save to EEPROM before you turn off the DS/GBA just in case.
It also prevents those unfortunate cases when you load up a different game and accidentally overwrite your old save. And yes, I speak from experience.

What is the process of saving to SRAM? All I know is to save the game at the save point in the game. Is that saving to SRAM?What is the process of backing it up to EEPROM? I use xg2 pro because I am using a GBA SP, not NDS. A lot of the buttons don't work on the software, lots of bugs. Sounds like what you are suggesting is a little too much for the software to handle. Thanks for any answers...

lol so do i :(
I have a Fake GBA cart here with Zelda a like to the past and i cant use it because it has a **** battery in it :( so the data is only kept alive for a hour or two.
It would be good if the battery got charged somehow by the GBA or NDS.
o and i suck at speling sorry :o

Well you're in luck, because when you use XG's software to load your GBA roms onto the flash cart, you may have also noticed that it flashes a menu system as well, in case you want to use multiple GBA roms on the one cartrige.
The saving to EEPROM is done via this menu, just follow these instructions:
When you are finished playing your game (i.e. you've just saved it), do NOT turn off the power just yet!
Press Start+Select+L+R to "soft reset" back to the menu. You might notice that the name of the game you were playing is listed on the bottom right corner. For example it might say "SRAM: GBAZELDA" or something.
This is telling you that your save game is currently held in the cart's SRAM. As with the RAM in your computer, this can be erased when you turn your cart off, so it's best to back this up to the card where it will be safe (just like your roms).
The best way to do this is to load a DIFFERENT game. As with the MK3 software, you will be prompted to backup your save before loading another.
-
so in other words we should also do this with the Magic Key?
My friend has a M3 and it backs up the game then you turn it off and back on ... so the data is writen into SRAM then onto the Sd card or GBA Flash Cart?
-
All I just said ONLY applies to the GBA flash cart with XG's software and thus ONLY applies to GBA games.
For NDS games, the backing up and restoring is all done via the menu software and (for v.4) it's really simple and great and woo.
-
yes its so easy ;D
I hope soon th magic Key will soon surport GBA Roms i cant wait to play Zelda A link to the past.
-
In order to play GBA games, you WILL NEED A GBA FLASH CART. There are no ifs or buts around this, it's a fact.
So since you need a GBA flash cart anyway, you may as well just use the XG's software to flash GBA games to your GBA flash cart and play Zelda that way.
-
yes but i DONT HAVE A GBA flash cart i use the GBAMP 2 - pice of junk if you ask me
but i hope to get one soon ;D
-
I know that, I'm just saying that even if they did add support for GBA in the MK3 menu software, you will STILL need a GBA flash cart due to the fact that in GBA mode, the DS slot is completely locked out (presumably for compatibility reasons).
-
yer well i like NDS games better than GBA so i would want a Magic Key more Than a GBA flash cart :)
-
I think you mean Neo-Key.
-
No i meant if i had the choice i would want a Magic Key2/3 more Than a GBA Flash cart ;D
-
But you need both to get the MK3 to work.....
-
umm i dont have a GBA Flash cart ... strange hey :)
I use the GBAMP - a big pice of junk ::sm-01::
-
Then get a GBA flash cart, they're nice and cheap and allows you to dump said piece of junk AND play GBA games.
-
yer any way i just download Metroid Pinball :O - name is M7-metpp.nds better change that .... 0142 - Metroid Prime Pinball.nds .... Much better
Loading ...
Bummer bad loading time o well
-
I had a problem getting that to work, even when flashed to the GBA cart, it complained about the NDS cartridge being removed.
-
yer there are still some bugs in the menu - Hope they are fixed soon.
