Title: Why Do I need a MK3? Please support the NEOFLASH
Post by: WeaponXxX on February 17, 2006, 09:46:24 AM
Here is the deal, we all know that I know that the MK3 will soon support multibooting DS backups and even turn my Neoflash into something quite cool (Multibootable backups with a nice menu system) But my question is why do I need a MK3 to boot my Neoflash? Why can't I run the software independently on a flashmed DS?  Listen I love the idea of the MK3, I don't really care much for the Neoflash but once I see what the MK3 can do to the NeoFlash I am impressed and see me using the cart once again but I'd like to see the ability to run the MK3 and Neoflash independently with both using similar loaders to the MK3 loader.

While that may sound like a good idea (not having the magic key 2/3 & pass-thru sticking out of the ds all the time), I personally don't think it's going to happen.

Right now, the developers are focused on exploiting the full capabilities of the magic key 2/3.   Many functions (such as NDS saving) are imbedded on the magic key itself.  I doubt they are even thinking about de-coupling the unit and developing a separate loader just for the flashcart.

At least the upcoming flashme/menu .7 will eliminate the flashcart requirement for booting.

The neomax software has a lot of potential, though, as a multi-boot app once it gets fully developed.

I personally was waiting for the coders to finalize the menu better before asking them to make a version that would be loaded as the NPK boot menu in NDS mode... but beleive me, I considered asking sooner.

yes thats too true cory its better to have a good working menu for the Magic Key to have 2 different ones both been in 0.5 or 0.4 stage.
