I am haveing soem problems running this thing, frist off I can get it installed without crashing the comp, green and 3 blinks of red but Neokit 1.0 and 2.2 when I load themn (yes I uninstalled them rist then installed the other) they start up slowly then stop working, are thier any programs that I can run to test my Slim loader 3?
My computer is XP Media Center with SP2 I normaly run SP1 sicne SP2 is evil.
ADM XP 3000+ 400FSB,700MB 400Mhz ramm(I just got done runing M$'s mem test program for 3 or 4 hours so the ramm is fine).
BTW are thier any newer drivers for this thing? I got it for 100 to run my GBA collection on it I dont realy care about running NDS games on it right now I just want to paly my GBA games and mabye soem of the imports I found online :3

I asked the same stuff, when i first got my neopowerkit.
First off, make sure you plug the gbacart into the reader before you stick it in the drive, wait for it to flash three times (or whatever) then run the program, its always uber slow, just learn to live with it.
If it stops working, your probably doing something wrong.

For GBA files, use XG's software.
It's currently the only one that properly supports GBA saves.

You can also use neo-max 1.5 to test your Slimloader 3. To use neomax, see Kushan's guide

thanks guys ^^ I will look into it once I wake up..been up for a few hours and still feel out of it ><
Just a question soemtiems when I replug the SL3 in the system goes blue screen of death, dose this happen more on SP2? I bascily been avoiding SP2 but recently I moved to a dailup only aera thus the main reason for me to hate SP2 the bandwith limits it has ,bascily my Q is shoudl I give up on SP2 and go back to SP1? *L*
Also are the drivers for the SL3 actively uopdated? menaing I can ecspect a upate for it this year,or are the drivers made pretty much when they are made (meaning other products take higher proirty and the Slim loaders get what they can get and such) *L*
-
What is "the blue screen of death", I've heard much about it, but never seen it...
-
BSOD is the windows error screen.
It used to be quite common, but since windows XP came along it's a lot more stable and thus a lot more rarely seen.
Also, half the time your computer just restarts if there's an error instead of actually telling you what's wrong.
As for SP2, I have it and I haven't had any BSOD's from the Slimloader, however from past experience if you're going to upgrade to SP2, I recommend a full reinstall of the OS with SP2 slipstreamed onto the CD.
You can use a tool called nlite to do this.
-
Thanks for that, i think it has happened before, i plug in/out the loader, and my computer instantly restarts itself, its only happened twice though...
(I always thought XP was MORE unstable, seriously, i feel its rather inferior to '98)

*L* well in this day of XP I guess they dont pluge us like it did in win 95-ME days *L*
its the info dump screen when XP crashs and you get some basic crash/device/Kernal info
I only get the BSOD on XP when drivers are messedup or if theres soemthign wrong with my ramm,if its soemthing else it just reboots *L*
Kushan
well I have the 9in1 XP SP 2 thign released from some group I lvoe it I dont have to full with putting in the key and can use it for a quick reinstall, altho the Extra boot options on it dont seem to work..I wish the 98se boot with NTFS reader would work...thats one of the best boot thigns MS ever made.
hype_chao
0_o ever sicne I used XP it was more stable than 98 but tis support for thigns is shot to hell, and I think vista will have worse support for software/hardware
one thing I loved about 98 is you can go into dos and fix most issues with it insted of sitting for an hour reinstalling ****
-
As with any OS, it's stability partially depends on the responsibility of the user not to install ****, viruses, spyware etc.
If your computer is being unstable, run a program called "Spybot".
It searches for and removes spyware, which is often the cause for unstable computers.
You can disable the automatic rebooting by going into system properties > advance > startup and recovery.
You'll get a BSOD instead, but at least you know what went wrong.
XP's support for stuff is quite good in my opinion. Generally anything released after 1998 works fine and anything released before that would probably work in an emulator of sorts anyway.
-
Yeah, as soon as I updated to XP, i lost 99% of compatablilty for all of my games/programs/screensavers. Makes me sad.
I've NEVER had BSOD on my '98.
-
I'm quite impressed, my own experiences with 98 and *shudders* ME were quite different.
XP isn't perfect, but it's the best windows OS out there at the moment.
-
Still, what I'd give to have my old Command And Conquer games running again, and 98 was much nicer looking (stupid chunky-monkey XP menues).
I have my XP set in '98 visual style, so much nicer!
-
Command and Conquer DOES work in XP, you just need the patch to fix it.
ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub/ccgold/CCGOLDXPPATCH.ZIP
Just extract that to your C&C directory (overwriting the file) and run the game in windows 95 compatibility mode.
EDIT: Oh and the same patch works for red alert.

I think your problem has more to do with your computer configuration rather than choice of OS (SP2 has been very stable for me). I would imagine that a general protection fault (BSOD)/system restart is usually symptomatic of a more serious underlying problem. Connecting a slimloader by itself generally doesn't cause this (the usual problem is people can't get the slimloader/cart detected on their pc)
Not that this applies to your case, but one scenario that might cause a system re-boot is that all the connected devices in aggregate are drawing too much power... Anyways, I don't think BSOD is very straightforward to diagnose...
As far as the drivers being updated on a regular basis for Neo Power Kit, the answer is yes they are. They are usually bug fixes, or adding support for additional products (such as the neokey and Slimloader IV).

dude XP is way better than 98 - boots up faster and stuff.
Also has anyone had any problams going back to 98 and not knowing where everything is because they have been useing XP.
Cant wait for Vister Tho
-
It's "Vista".
And as a beta tester for it, I can tell you that in it's current state, it's going to be one of the worst OS's Microsoft has ever released lol.
A lot of the features, to me, just seem to bloat the OS completely and slow it down.
All those nice looking windows and transparency effects mean that minimising or Maximising a window takes twice as long!
And believe me, my PC is certainly no slouch. They have a lot of work to do before it's release worthy.
-
Vista is pure evil, needing 2X more CPU and ramm than XP did, sure it will ahve more stuff in it..but thier not makeing it to run "better" just makeign it to do more things......
XP main problems that could ahve been fixed are compailty hell I would have loved to be able to go into a less stable capailty mode to run my 98 stuff in you forget that alot of 3D games came out on 98 and all the win emluators dont support 3D becuse of the horror that was/is DX.
Vista will be out either this year or at the start of next year and it will only be alil bit less buggy than the Beta...its truely is getting to the point where the crackers and coders have to fix windose's issues since M$ aint intrested in running a desent OS ><
speaking of Desent OS's how good is wine?
anyway I am off to try neomax 1.5 to test my loader

It seems the Slim loader 3 HATES the USB on my motherboard my mobo is a Abit NF7 S2G one of thier catchs ups on the last of the XP line, prehaps it dose not like the driver,Mobo,USB chipset combo?
I ahve a generic VIA usb2.0 firewire card and it seems to run fine now no BCOD or anythign no matter how many times I plug it in,if I try it on the other its about 50/50 it will either go BCOD or install right but when I go to format or soemthing it dosent do anythign like it crashs also I paad attetion tot eh SL3 and it's lights did not blink any when i tried to format or detect it,when it's drivers loaded correctly it works fine.
Is this device senitvie to bad USB or is it simply an odd driver/hardware issue? my USB Flash drive 256MB and USB CD/DVD boxs run fine.
-
are you useing the extended USB cable? if so try with out it.
Also if you can try it on different computers or a friends computer.
-
Mmmm not much friends where I am *L*
but I ahve tried it with and without the Exstention and it still is 50/50 on the mobos USB (front and back) but on the PCI USB card it runs fine 0-o never BSOD or anyhtign but loads up fine. in other words I have loaded soem GBA game sonto it and it works YAY! *L*
now I need another cart for NDS games :3
I tohught XP was goign to fix hardware oddiestis not run them underground LOL
-
I dont think it is a XP, Most people have a problam with the Slim Loader 3 and found that it worked on a PCI card.
It could also be a software thing.

It's generally the communications chipset on your particular motherboard that may not work well with the Slimloader. A separate usb 2.0 pci card or usb 2.0 hub generally fixes this problem. It's actually worse on laptops, as their usb ports aren't powered enough to even detect the slimloader device.

Ouch I plan on gettign acouple simple small powered USB 2.0 hubs anyway but at least I got the damn thign to work *L*.
