Title: I think I have a bad MK2?
Post by: SamelCamel on March 31, 2006, 04:42:44 AM
I purchased two MK2's for both of my sons to have.  I got the first one running good, but the second one either gives me two white screens or the Nintendo DS logo comes up, but doesn't show the animated "O" in Nintendo.  It just locks up there.

I've cross tested everything between the two and the common denominator is the second MK2 device.  Is there some way to either reset this MK2 back to factory defaults or RMA it?

Thank you very much,

Sam from Indianapolis

Ok, well, what revision of DS's are you using? what flashcart? and finally, what ROM's?

Sounds like the MK3 contacts need to be cleaned.
I know this seems too simple, but at least try it.

My son and daughters are into this with me.If this doesn't work, ask more questions...

Yeah, it's always a good idea to clean the contacts (i.e. the gold fingers) using a q-tip and a tiny amount of isopropyl alcohol.

It seems that he isolated the problem to the mk2 unit itself.  The other mk2 works fine on the same system, I assume, so that makes perfect sense.

If you recently purchased it, I would tend to return/exchange it myself (there are no diagnostic/troubleshooting tools on the magic key itself, so it either works or it doesn't)

I've cleaned and tried everything.  The MK2 has been sent back to Hong Kong for a replacement.

Thank you all for your replies,
