With the announcement of the new MK4, the neoteam will stop developing the MK2/3 menu imidiately :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
.... not 8)

You know, honestly, April Fool's Day stuff just isn't as fun as it was when you were six years old.
-
Well I Think that the MK4 will be just like the MK3, But it will be able to play on NDS-Lite and Newer NDS, Also it will probally be able to play more games ::sm-09.gif::
Like the new emotions

According to the manufacturers, it supports all NDS consoles, direct booting, no Need for flashme, DS lite support and is a pure plug and play device. We have learnt there will be two varitions of the MK4, one version is simple and boots just like a hardware version of FlashMe, the next is a little more complex with a menu supporting SD/MMC with the core being completely re-written resulting faster loading times by as much as 4X than the MK2 and MK3 devices.
NeoFlash will not drop support for the MK2/MK3 devices, they will remain and support these devices with constant menu upgrades with the new menu v0.7 due for a release soon.
The prototype for the MK4 has been completed but another month is required to redesign the casing, the new NeoFlash menu v0.7 is due for a release in approimately 2 weeks time.

I refuse to believe it. Now the neoteam will have an excuse for less compatibility. they will say buy the mk4 , it has 4X reading. Large roms won't work on the mk3.... and blah blah..
Its a matter of few days when the neoteam forgets what an mk2/3 is and the 200+ dollars we have spend have no meaning.
-
I think we need to find out more information first before jumping to any conclusions (not sure when this mk4 is going to be released). Also, I would want to find out more about the neo ultra application (and whether it includes backward compatibility for older products).
If the same programming team is handling this, then maybe dual support can continue for mk2/mk3 as well. With mk1, there was an entirely separate group (GST) involved, so it's not directly comparable...
Basically, we just have to wait and see how the situation evolves....

think its a little too fast for the Neoteam to release the MK4, if we're talking this summer.. the MK2/3 haven't even been out for a year
However, it might be easier for them to write the menu for the MK4, if it reads 4x faster.. I think the key to the speed in the MK2/3 is in the software, thats why it takes ages for it to support more roms and such ::sm-04::
I think all in all, its for greater compatability, and faster loading times ::sm-23.gif::

My mother always said to me 'Don't start a new thing until you haven't finished the previous one'...
I think the development of MK2/3 is most needed than a new MK...
-
I get the feeling, that menu 1.0 will be released -before- the MK4 ::sm-09.gif::
-
I would personally prefer a more stable and mature mk2/mk3 menu release as well, before mk4 is released.

My thoughts exactly. Hopefully a very stable release is whats causing the delay with new betas.
-
Hopefully they'll look into the hombrew apps too.. have experienced a few probs with running apps dirrectly from the SD card.. like Nitrotracker :-\ .. but thumbs up for the work ;D

the one thing I am worried about is when (or if) MK4 comes out, neo team will just say that mk2/3 are just unable to do certain things just to get people to buy the new one.
I hope they continue to respect all who put money i their pockets in the first place. ::sm-13.gif::
-
Well, referring to what happened with MK1, they're not going to do that twice.

As of now, mk4 is definitely coming (the timeframe seems to be the only question).
I don't believe the coders will say that they are unable to do certain things solely to spur mk4 sales. I think constraints imposed by the mk2/mk3 hardware would be the more likely cause of issues not being completely resolved to everyone's satisfaction (assuming that were to happen). Maybe a contributing factor is that mk2/mk3 were not designed with running commercial roms as the foremost consideration (apparently they were devised initially as developmental tools).
That being said, they have made significant progress so far from the initial menu release, and hopefully this trend will continue (eliminating the remaining glaring bugs would be a good start)
I think that mk4 will address all the previous hardware design issues/limitations, and will therefore be easier to achieve the desired results through the coding...
That's just my personal opinion based on what I've read here....

I could easily see either side of the statements made on the future of the MK2/3 in this thread happening...
An updated menu version that was "good enough" would keep us (meaning MK2/3 users) sedated as far as that goes, and a wonderful new MK4 would be a great distraction from old hardware at that point...
I think bruceg might have hit the nail on the head in his statement that the hardware of the mk2/3 is what might be holding back using the SD card for running full speed roms and having complete compatibility, and if the developers start back from square one, using the knowledge they've learned from previous versions, they might be able to work around any limitations they've had in pre-mk4 versions straight off it's production line...
I am not holding my breath though, and until enough time has gone by (after the release of the MK4) so that these forums can be flooded left and right about MK4 issues, and until every problem of the MK4 is solved and everything is 100% working with it, will I then peer into my wallet to see how much I might have to upgrade my DS hardware.
Upgrades are great, and new toys are fun, but the 'zip ram' that was never used once in older MK models does worry me a bit, and makes me wonder if I'm using a hundered-dollar-plus toy that is on it's way to the land of extinction as I type.
Evolution happens, and it is a good thing... I'm just not prepared to be the one left holding the bag a second time, if the "next best thing" is right around the corner and I end up holding the bag this time (I can't imagine how those MK1 users feel at this point).
-
agreed.....
The people who are patient and can wait for the products to fully evolve before purchasing will definitely benefit the most. Even if mk4 turns out to be better than all the competing products out there, it's always best to confirm that, instead of relying on some technical specifications that sound really impressive....
When it comes out, there will be plenty of news here (good and bad)...
I was happy enough with the potential of mk2/mk3 to purchase my neomax 1g at that particular point in time. I definitely can't complain since I'm making good use of it now, but upgrades are always inevitable...

why bother selling a product if you are just going to drop it in a few months and come out with a new one.... Im pretty sure that illegal (and im not guessing)
whatever, I guess we all just have to wait and wait and wait even more ..............................................................................................................................and more just to get kicked in the face with a newer version
-
First off, I can't answer that question, as I am not a Neoflash policy maker (the moderators/testers are usually volunteers who want to see the product improve since we purchased it). I hope my neomax I purchased at full price when it first came out realizes more of its potential....
Now, if one follows the Neoflash product cycles, there are new items coming out frequently... Neoflash users have to live with that (sure, it's not ideal, as it can cause uncertainty for existing users, but it's not illegal to continually innovate)
If you have already made up your mind about what's definitely going to happen, maybe you should sell yours?? (rather than waiting for mk4 to become available and depressing the value of mk2/3 even further)
Even for those who want to purchase a mk4, this may not be a bad idea. I don't think there is any doubt that the next hardware iteration is going to be better than the current one, as holds true in other sectors.... (there are apparently at least two versions of mk4 -- mk4 mini sounds like it has more limited functionality)
Otherwise, for those of us who are keeping and making use of our magic keys currently, we don't have much choice, but to wait and see what actually happens.

That PassCard 2 is ment to be comming out by G6 and M3.
The MK4 Mini may just be so that people with NDS Lite or the Newer NDS models get to play it.
I hope there will be another MK4 with SD/MMC surport. ::sm-29.gif:: ::sm-29.gif::
