Title: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: Scor on April 03, 2006, 03:00:41 AM
I was wondering, since Chism apparently got backups to run on his GBAMP.
And I know that he hacked them so that the reads from the DS slot get to the GBA slot.
Isn't that kinda the same what the M3 does?

ok the M3 and the GBAMP 2 are completely diferent. I have been able to get NDS games to work on my GBAMP but you need a MK2. With the MK2 it has a SD card and can boot the game from the SD card threw the menu.

For more infomation on how to get this to work go to:
http://www.aussie-play.com/user/tut-gbamp.html (http://www.aussie-play.com/user/tut-gbamp.html)

Sounds to me it runns more or less from the MK2 rather then from the GBAMP directly..But this might get me a better idea about the general operation of the backups, and what trick is needed to get it all to work :) (if it is even possible).
Thanks anyway!

you cant run a real NDS Rom from the GBAMP. Only homebrew can be run.
The MK4 is comming out soon (I hope) maby you should stay around and wait a little while.

Post by: Scor on April 03, 2006, 03:39:58 PM
Chances are I'll end up buying an MK4 :), but for now I'm looking into this.
Chism got it to work didn't he?
I just don't have enough experiance to get it to work  ::sm-02:: must learn  ::sm-02::.
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: boblen on April 03, 2006, 03:45:52 PM
ok he got HomeBrew to work using a hack he made.

The only way to get Real Back-ups to work is useing a MK2/3 (maby 4 when it comes out)
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups

Quoting Chism here:
"The unreleased version's only advantage is playing ROMz. It doesn't magically play games that expect to read from the GBA cart (such as DS Heretic), since they expect direct memory access. Unlocked v2.1* runs ROMz by patching them to redirect reads from the DS Card to the CF card, taking advantage of the identical sector sizes."

So as you can see, it is most defently possible, just not done yet (released anyway).

I hope it's released to the public..

Its already did.... already did...

But none of you can understand how to use it ;)
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups

? did i miss something here?
you can or cant play nds-roms on the GBAMP?
I am almost sure you cant. unless you have a MK2
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: Scor on April 12, 2006, 01:22:36 AM
I know it is already done, I also know how, I just don't know how to reproduce it, and since I'm buying something else I don't really care that much anymore :).
However something I do find very interesting, is how fast sertain rumors are excepted as reality.
The GBAMP is simply a CF - GBA converter, som in essence of cource it can run the roms (just as long as they are hacked).

*Btw, LiraNuna, small change in your comment I think:
But none of you can understand how to use it ;) , should be
But none of you (except some) know how to hack the roms (since it is not in version 2.11 or older (except 2.10). And since it was a firmware hack...-> figure that one out yourselves :).

So as a responce to Boblen, you can play them, if you hack the roms, BUT since you don't know how (if you do, I'll help you build it (as long as you'll release it)), nobody else feels like making a patcher, and Chism won't release his, You (and I) can't :(.

_______________EDIT_____________
What do you people think this lines mean, can't really think of anything while reading the source (entirely different thing then what I discussed before the edit):

   (*(vu16*)0x027FF808) = ndsHeader[0x15E>>2];
   (*(vu16*)0x027FFC08) = ndsHeader[0x15E>>2];

   //mirrored secure area CRC
   (*(vu16*)0x027FF80A) = ndsHeader[0x06C>>2];
   (*(vu16*)0x027FFC0A) = ndsHeader[0x06C>>2];
*/

   // first copy the header to its proper location, excluding
   // the ARM9 start address, so as not to start it
   TEMP_ARM9_START_ADDRESS = ndsHeader[0x024>>2];      // Store for later
   ndsHeader[0x024>>2] = 0;

Arggh, I've been looking through the source for ages now, (and no I'm not bad in C or assembly), but I can't find it :S.
Dear god a hint or something, this is so incredably annoying  ::sm-02::.

are guys your wasting your time.
If you want NDS roms to play on your GBAMP then you need a Magic Key 2/3
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: Scor on April 15, 2006, 02:51:00 PM
Why wouldn't it work? (not counting on some slowdowns of course)
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: rmco2003 on April 15, 2006, 02:52:18 PM
You need to try and find the 2.10 source, the whole function has been removed from 2.11
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: Scor on April 15, 2006, 02:55:15 PM
Strange, according to LiraNuna it should be in there (that would explain why I can't find anything ;)).

Post by: boblen on April 15, 2006, 02:59:03 PM
you guys think that you can get NDS Roms to boot off the GBAMP?

Dude why do you think they made the M3???
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: rmco2003 on April 15, 2006, 03:05:35 PM
They made the M3 to get more money
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: boblen on April 15, 2006, 03:11:39 PM
no, well i dont know.
But they are totally different.
want me to take pictures of the instides of both the GBAMP and M3?
one has a battery for saves (M3) one doesent.

In other words you need a MK2/3 to play roms on the GBAMP
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: rmco2003 on April 15, 2006, 03:42:48 PM
The M3 is just a redesigned GBAMP, they couldn't solve the problem of Compact Flash cards not having random access so they added some ram to it instead.

Post by: Scor on April 15, 2006, 03:52:43 PM
Please make pic's of the insides of an M3 for me :).
And if possible of the GBAMP too. Thanks!
*You could just put them in a zip for me to download (no need for rescaling them for download on account of me).

How did you open yours up (since the detail on the pictures isn't all that great (no offence) I might open up mine if it's not to hard, is just unscrewing the 2 screws?
Btw, on what side is your GBAMP sticker?

I'm gonna place my pic's online too, on my website, just keep checking it :).

*LoL* your room looks like mine :D.
Did you take pictures of the M3 (SD, not cf sadly), or just the video?

Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: Scor on April 15, 2006, 08:42:46 PM
Only real difference I can see is that one has some save chips and a battery + SD slot instead of CF slot.
Rest seems kinda the same (isn't the GBA menu an exact copy?) --> Isn't the menu of the GBAMP the same as that of the M3?
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: boblen on April 15, 2006, 08:46:47 PM
The Menu is the same on both M3 and GBAMP but it says M3.
The battery alows you to save and then is more built in memory for the game.

otherwise they are just about the same
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: Scor on April 15, 2006, 08:57:20 PM
nvm
*I noticed that the EFA tool ( www.efa.cc ) and the M3 game manager has the same look :)
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: Scor on April 16, 2006, 05:12:01 AM
Thanks again for the video! Really nicely done :).
Do you (or anyone else) have acces to a M3 CF to make pic's of the insides from?
I'm really wondering what it looks like, and can't find any pics :(.
I wonder if the menu is the same, the code of it is the same too (or at least, if the chips they use are the same and the pcb layout is too, not counting the Sram of cource), don't think so , but who knows :).
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: boblen on April 16, 2006, 08:13:13 AM
well the M3 CF is almost the same as the SD but the chips are in different parts.

It does use the same menu but you cant play NDS Roms on the GBAMP.
That thing has trouble with NES still and almost working with GB.
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: Scor on April 16, 2006, 04:12:12 PM
You can't play NDS roms in GBA mode with the M3 correct? Are they using the same chip as on the GBAMP on the M3 CF (the microcontroller)?
I'm also wondering if the flash chip is on the same location on both the GBAMP and the M3 cf.
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: boblen on April 16, 2006, 04:14:07 PM
you cant run NDS roms from GBA mode.
I have no idea lol

ok when i get my M3 CF back i will take some.
But that may not be for a while  :(
and way it looks like the SD version just with a CF.

I can show you a video of a GBAMP running a "backup".

Choose your game (old SDK, MKDS will not run, MP:H will not too)
I can even write myself on a paper some words so you can actually see it me, just tell me exactly what to do in the video, i will show you it's not fake.

if the guy that made the video was some smart ass.
He could have taken out the inside on the M3 and put it in the GBAMP to make it run.

The M3 and GBAMP are TOTALLY different.
look for a inside picture on google or something.
Title: Re: GBAMP-Backups
Post by: Scor on April 21, 2006, 01:23:23 PM
If you were willing to do that LiraNuna, that would be great (if not only to kill the damn myth that it isn't possible).
If you want to show Boblen that it's really a GBAMP, you open it up just after/just before playing the rom (but that's up to you, since I'm sure it's possible already :D).
Google can't find any images btw boblen.

He also said we could say what he needed to do to make it "real", so here goes a few :):
1. Write this down on some paper or something: 山のシモン
2. Openup the GBAMP before playing the backup (for Boblen :)), and show that there is no cart in the DS slot.
3. Could you open this page on the background? http://www.simonvandeberg.be/nifi
4. Give us a hint ;-).

Also, i will show you that when i eject the GBAMP, the game (when loading!) freezes untill the GBAMP is returned.

The game that i will run is Nanostry.

Wait for a 3PG file soon :)

In fact, if you've flashed your GBAMP with the 2.11 chishm's firmware hack, you already have the secret feature :-)
Of course, it is removed in the source code, but it was in the loadARM7 routine.
Basically, it calculates something with your MAC adress, and with something written somewhere inside your NDS ;-)
Maybe Chishm gave to some people a tool to calculate the thing you had to write into your NDS. As I don't have this tool, I made a bruteforce calculator, and tested it.
It worked with Yoshi. In fact, I only test yoshi, because I'm not really interested into playing, only hacking :-D
Liranuna, am I right?

Hey is there a tool for the GBAMP that let's you read/write DS saves to a DS card in the DS slot? Just wondering.

N.v.m. RAIN from Sata works
