Firstly i'd like to say that it my first time doing any to this and i completely new to it.
I have the slim loader IV and NEOKEY cart. i have tried using a 512 MB transflash card with and SD adaptor and a 64MB simpletech SD card. I have formated the cards to FAT16 and 32 and i have also exracted and re-built the nds roms with ds lazy. I have also tested my for version to see if its compatible, which it is i DO NOT get the yellow screens. I use the NEO power kit to put the NEO_MK2_3_Menu_V0.6-BETA_2 meus software on it. The NEO power kit does read and write to the NEOKEY but everytime i go onto the NEO power kit after burning the menu software to the menu never shows up on the cart, its like it was never burnt to it in the first place. I have also tried the Neo Max software and tried to format my cart with it but that doesnt work, i keep getting an error saying no cart or somthing. So can anyone help me??
*EDIT*
I also wanted to know am i surposed to be using clean roms or patched roms?, how do i know if i have a patched rom?, if i do can i un-patch it?
-
you're not suppost to use the Neokey after flashing the menu to your MK3.. just put it away :D .. the menu is -in- the neokey, test yourself ^^
( if this is not the answer to your question, its because I didn't read it right, sorry in advance ::sm-04:: )
-
how do i do that?
-
ok,
You should be useing the Neo-MAX software get it here: http://www.neoflash.com/forum/index.php/topic,1871.0.html (http://www.neoflash.com/forum/index.php/topic,1871.0.html)
ok now put your Neo-Key into the slim loader.
Run Neo-MAX Software.
Select ADD.
Add the menu from where it is on your computer.
Select "Single Write" (the menu should write to the GBA Flash cart)
Insert the Neo-Key into NDS.
Copy games to SD/MMC Card.
Play :)

I'm not sure about the compatibility of your particular sd cards (if one it not compatible, you generally get a message saying that it failed to initialize the card, when trying to browse the contents using the menu).
Copy clean dumps onto the sd card via your sd card reader. You generally know it's a clean dump because it should be labeled as such (getting clean dumps is the easiest alternative). The menu patches the roms automatically, so that's why clean dumps are initially required. Don't worry about rebuilding/recompresing the roms, either.... the menu has a built-in trimming feature.
Get the latest version of Neo Power Kit (it sounds like you have it). Older versions will not recognize the neo-key. Next, flash the latest menu software onto your neo-key in nds mode (you double click that 'nds mode' icon on your desktop). After you have added the file and burned it, it should say that burning was successful. Don't worry if it doesn't show up in NPK (it lacks a proper gba header, so you won't see it listed, but it's definitely there).
Put your neo-key in the gba slot.... insert your sd card (loaded with clean dumps), and original ds game cartridge into your magic key 3 unit.... insert the magic key into the nds slot, and the menu should boot automatically.

bruceg i have already tried what you have told me to do but still no luck. boblen i have followed your guide from your site, which is very good; but whenever i try to write the menu to the neokey using Neo-Max i always get the error 'no free memory' i then tried to format the neo key which looks like it is working but when finished i get the another error saying 'Not Find Catridge' i click ok and the same error comes up again i click ok again and nothing happens! after the formatting i tried to burn the menu again, i click add then slelected the menu.nds clicked ok then clicked single rom and i get the same error telling me that the neokey is full, no memory left. Whats going wrong??
*EDIT*
In the menu software folder i have 2 files one is .nds the other is gba.nds, which one am i surpossed to burn to cart? Also i have tried using the usb ports at the back of my computer, that makes no difference.
-
ok make sure when you format you DONT select add moonshell.
There are ment to be errors the software was built for Neo-MAX but you use it for the Neo-Key as well.
-
ok tried that and i get the same error 'no free memory' but after fromating the card i closed neo-max and opend again and click detect and it says no device, does that mean anything?
-
na its another bug in the neo-max software.
You should be able to just add the menu and not have to format at all.
keep trying it about 3 times. Add game and single write.
make sure your not copying anything else as well.
-
done it much more than 3 times and i got another error saying 'error in write' and somthing else. BTW In the menu software folder i have 2 files one is .nds the other is gba.nds, which one am i surpossed to burn to cart? Also i have tried using the usb ports at the back of my computer, that makes no difference.
-
the NDS one which one have you been useing?
-
i've been using the nds one, but is the menu software casing the white screens or the sd cards i'm using?
-
if you cant burn the Menu file to the GBA flash cart then you would be getting white screens.
At the moment you dont need to worry about the SD card.
-
ok, just tried neo-max again and i got a 'Write OK' message, i then tried it in the ds and still nothing just white screens!! is the menu being burnt to the cart in the first place?
-
ok thats what you want a Write OK
try it again make sure its in the Slim Loader properly
-
Yeah, there is a bug if you are trying to use neomax to write the menu software. See the workaround here:

What original ds game cartridge are you using with your magic key 3?? Have you tried different ones as well?
BruceG
-
i'm using nitendogs at the moment, the only other game i got is spiderman 2
-
ok wait.
Insert a DS game into your Nintendo DS without the Magic Key.
Go into Picto Chat Room A,
eject your NDS cart what color is the screens?
-
It's not yellow, Boblen. But what color is it exactly?? (if it's magenta, that's a new firmware also)
BruceG
-
If its green or blue then its good.
-
ahhh its purple is that bad?? can i get around it, please dont tell me i wasted £100+ on this
-
well thats your problam :(
You did burn the Menu to the GBA flash cart but you have a newer DS which means you need a newer Pass?? eg PassKey 2 or PassMe 2
-
damn! ok where can i see some images of it and where can i get it from?
-
Where did you get your Neo-Key from?
-
http://shop.01media.com/en/ does the passkey2 have sd card support? because if not i wasted another £15 on a 512Mb SD card!!
-
No it doesent but.
You would have to Flash your DS with Flash Me.
umm this may not work out so good if you only have the Neo-Key.
you may not be able to put the flash onto your Neo-Key.
umm you could put the PassMe2 into your NDS then the Magic Key into the PassKey2 then on the SD card the flash me that may work.
go test now ::sm-21.gif::
-
Is there a guide to Flash my DS with Flash Me? is it safe?
-
There are several guides on installing flashme.
http://www.neoflash.com/forum/index.php/topic,1566.msg6022.html#msg6022
Also, the www.dspassme.com site has links to the flashme file and installation procedures.
Your main problem with the neo-key is that it doesn't have any SRAM space to write the required data (a gba flashcart is commonly used for this purpose).
If you do in fact have one of the newer firmware revisions that isn't passme1 compatible, you will likely need that passme2 device to install the flashme firmware, whether you go with neoflash or a non-neoflash product.

so basicly i wasted my money on the mk3 2006 because of the version of my ds, but another alternative would be to get an older ds and try it on that. I think that would be cheaper for me.
-
If you have a newer firmware, you need additional equipment (passme2) to make it compatible (no matter what product you decide on). Yes, an older ds would be one solution to that issue.
I'm assuming you can't return/exchange your mk3 2006?? There is another possibility that the mk3 2006 is defective, but it appears that the primary issue is an incompatible firmware, based on the pictochat test results...
BruceG
EDIT: For your particular product, either the .nds file or the .gba menu file should work...
-
ok i tested my PassKey 2 with my Magic Key 3 in it and FlashMe on the SD card.
Works great now i dont need my GBA flash cart should have done it sooner ::sm-29.gif:: ::sm-29.gif::
-
Thats good, do you think you could make a guide on how to do that as well like the mk3 2006 guide you have on your site, with images as well? that would be really helpful!
-
If you want to use a Passme 2 to install the flashme application, the www.dspassme.com site has the more conventional route to follow.. The process is also explained thoroughly in the mk2/mk3 New User's Guide (Requirement #2), located in the FAQ sub-forum.
