Title: why did i get a 1GB Cart?
Post by: halothirteen on April 20, 2006, 08:22:01 AM
I bought a 1GB neoflash cart thinking i would be able to put mulitple DS Roms on it and therefore play my backups on the go anytime. But it wont let me. So maybe i thought it would let me use a mix of gba and DS but no such luck either. I dont understand why they would sell a 1gb cart if you couldn't put more than one ds game at a time.  If anyone knows about a multi rom loader for MK1 let me know. :-\

The neomax application functions as a multi-rom loader (it has worked well for me with gba roms, though the nds support is limited).  You're constrained more by your mk1 (which is no longer supported) than your flashcart.

Are you stuck with the 1 gig cart, or can you return it??  With the Neo2 cart coming out, it should be far more versatile as far as being able to run a variety of roms..

I just got it last week so i dont know if I can still return it. But If i just upgrade my magic key will i be able to load multiple roms? If so then using the "Flashme" firmware upgrade I should have no problems, right?

Yeah, you will be able to use the menu software by upgrading to a magic key 2 or magic key 3.  Then, you can load more than one rom onto a compatible SD card.

Once concern is that mk2/mk3 don't have high rom compatibility currently (especially with newer titles), and running roms from the SD card still results in significant load times, so it's not an optimal solution.  Even with that 1 gig cart, there still will be numerous titles that are incompatible...

MK4 and Neo2 will likely have higher compatibility levels (with more speed as well), since they're the newest technologies....
