Title: MK2 white screen problems, please help.
Post by: SolarisXD on April 25, 2006, 12:56:03 AM
I bought the MK2 months ago, along with an SD card to go with it, i spent ages trying to get the thing to actually do something, including following instructions on here, but had no luck. Now months later i'm trying again and am still having no luck. Is there anyone that knows what im doing wrong?

Here's all the details.
I have a blue DS that were sold with the nintendogs pack. I read somewhere that if you eject the nds cart during gameplay and the game freezes it means you have the old firmware. I don't know how accurate that is but it does freeze when i eject the cart during gameplay.

I have the MK2, and a sandisk 256MB SD card which i plug into it.

I'm using the EZF Advance Realtime 256M gba flashcart.

Ok well i've downloaded the latest neo mk2_3 menu v0.6 beta 2.
I've used EZFA client to burn the file that ends in .gba to the EZF cart. I've made sure to not select multirom. And i also made sure to format the cart first.

I've formatted the sandisk SD card using my card reader using fat32. When i put everything together all i get is the standard DS menu, with the option to select gba cart. When i select this i see the gba cart loading screen, then it stays white.

When i try it again with everything plugged in including my DS game, "nintendogs" the DS boots up and then the screens stay white.

That's as far as i can get and nothing i do seems to change it. I've searched through certain similar topics but none seem to help. I'd be grateful if anyone could offer some advice.

Thanks.

Is there anyway to check? The serial number starts with NEH 1126.
If i do have the new firmware is there anyway for me to downgrade it with the equipment i already have?

Try the pictochat test:

http://www.dslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Pictochat_Test

and i dont thinkits possible to change it without a passme2..

Thanks for that. The screens turned yellow so i guess i have firmware 4.
Doesn't the MK2 act as a passme2? Or do i have to buy another device?

no, it only acts as a passme1 sadly- you're best off sending it back and buying an m3 or supercard SD with a passme2, or you can get a passme2 and then flash (flashme) the firmware using the flash cart you already have and then use your mk2 without a flashcart at all

edit: you could always wifime it aswell, not sure how much that does exactly, but if you've got a compatible wifi card its worth a try...

If i buy this.... http://www.natrium42.com/shop/passme2.html
Will i be able to use this to flash my ds from my ezf advance flash card, making it compatible with mk2?
It says  Make sure your GBA flashcart has SRAM memory. Does anyone know if the EZF advance realtime 256M card has this?

well both the mk2 and 3 are only passme1's- neither act as passme2's, try googling around for passme2's or ebay, you can get em for about £20- personally i would sell the mk2 and flashcart to someone who can use it and buy a supercard SD and superpass2 (passme2) or whatever its called

What about the one i posted a link to above?
If this will make the mk2 work what's the point in me getting a supercard SD and superpass2? Are these cheap and would they work better?

oh, sorry i didn't see that post, yes you should be able to, 99% on the card though- ask someone who has one, i believe this guide might help aswell:

http://www.dspassme.com/docs/html/pm_07_flashcarts.html

as to whether it works, says it does on there

Thanks for the help.
I've decided to order a supercard SD with superpass2. Since that sounds like the far easier option.

Yeah, you can buy basically any passme 2 compatible device, and it should work with the new ds firmware.  SRAM is just static memory that doesn't require refreshing (this is standard with most flashcarts, such as EZF Advance).  GBA MP doesn't have SRAM, I think....

As far as WiFIMe (the wireless passme), it is actually NOT compatible with the new ds firmware, so you need the passme 2 device.

You've actually made a good choice (You can flash your superpass2 with the included programmer) and install the flashme application through the supercard itself.

Supercard also has better rom compatibility than the mk2 device.  Once you get the flashme installed, your mk2 should start working as well...
