Title: Earth Invaders 0
Post by: smealum on August 20, 2007, 06:48:52 AM
Nickname: smealum
Projet name : Earth Invaders 0
Division: NDS GAME
Original enter : NO (but the game changed A LOT since neoflash, please take this in account... check out the evolution here : http://palib.info/devfr/Smea/EI0/realevo.PNG )
In last NEO Compo this project won in the top 10 : No.8
Project description:  { Earth Invaders 0 is an 2.5D shoot action game, set in a futuristic environment. It takes full advantage of the DS's functionalities.}

This game is DLDI enabled and does not work on every linker. It has been developped using a G6 DS Real, and i can't garanty it will work well on other linkers.

This game features a "mirror" control-scheme : it's adapted for both lefties and righties.
- D-PAD or ABXY : move. (Up or X to jump)
(in equipment menu, change equipment)
- Stylus : aim or open the equipment menu.
- R or L : shoot. (you have to be aiming with the stylus)
Note : Up + Direction = long jump.
Up alone = high jump.

Thanks to everyone who helped Lobo and me in this project. :)

If you have ANY question or comment about the game, please post it, everything is welcome.

Very nice start to a game

I like the graphics, for homebrew its very nice and unique, reminds me of GBA  with the stylus.

jumping etc. is a bit difficult. a little bit of adjusting is needed to get used to it. Music is very nice, sounds work, a Death animation would be nice.

Consider a right/left handed option, so you can use XBAY/LRUD for other uses.

Also, sleep mode support is always great.

Pretty good start man

OK im just going to shut up because some damn homebrew game corrupted my SD card along with my saves?

Of course I already formatted the card

You should have run scandisk on the card before formatting it.  In most cases of file corruption caused by DS homebrew, that will recover all the data on the card. since there's not any actual file corruption, but just a corrupted toc.

Too late now, though.

I highly doubt my game corrupted all your data since it only saves a 1kb file but....whatever you say...
Anyway, thanks laos, omg, Cid2Mizard and diamond07. :)

Are you sure this game corrupted your card? You have better chance of corrupting your card with any text writer than with this game.
Also, fyi, homebrew comes without any warranty and yes MAKE A BACKUP every once in a while you lazy ass!

yes I ran scandisk viruscan and almost all of the other **** you can run before formatting for maintenance to no luck...

lobo: Yeah I know about the backup stuff and It HASNT even been a month yet since I got my microSD...

It literally went kapoot after the the reboot after the game over screen

All that was left on the card were garbage worth 2 gigabytes

I literally thought this was a joke with the diskette virus storyline and all and the resulting corruption of data...goddammit

:D ah, yeah, its not supposed to do that, floppy i mean, not for real unless smealum did something...No, jk. I'm sorry it happened to you but really...have to backup stuff more often, what card do you have and what microSD is that?

Also, I think SweaterFishDeluxe suggested you try scandisk after that corruption happened, not before.

yes I scanned it after all the data was corrupted and the data became the .chk files so...ugh

I am using an r4 and a kingmax 2gb micro sd (yeah I know not the best one but still still pretty good except for Portrait of ruin)

sigh...

Oh, wait wait wait! You said ALL the files became .chk? Well, if there's a few of them, seems like you can just rename them back to what they were (lets say gamesomething.sav) if you know or can recognize what these files were (by their size most likely). Also, check this out

http://www.topshareware.com/Flobo-CHK-Recovery-download-42232.htm

Maybe, just maybe it might help (if this is the case where all your stuff has become chk suddenly).

Very proffesionally done game. Nice upgrade from previous versions.

Only thing i dislike is the loading time 0_0.

Yeah, like lobo said, those .CHK files were your recovered files but Scandisk gave them dummy names because all the names in the card root were lost due to some toc corruption.  If you'd gone into one of those folders with a dummy name, you'd have seen that it still contained all your regular files with their proper names and everything.  There was no data corruption on your card, just a table of contents corruption that was fixed by running Scandisk, so all you had to do was rename the files and folders in the card root and then everything would have been dandy.

Next time try paying more attention rather than shooting your mouth off at a homebrew coder for something that wasn't his fault at all.

OK so ive moved on from this but can ALL the files be recovered by just renaming them?

Thanks for the info guys

Yeah, seems like all of them can be recovered as recovery tool like that one might be able to 'revert' the file where scandisk has failed to sort em out properly. Now, its just a guess that if you have, let's say "Somegame.nds" which is, lets say 128megs, and you have a .chk thats also suspiciously so 128megs in size, just renaming it back manually should also work. Its a theory to me really as I never had this problem but in case you didn't delete anything, try renaming stuff back to .sav or .nds or try that tool (or at least keep it around in case it happens again).
