Top Gear 3000 won't work because it's a special chip game using the DSP-4 (the only game that uses the DSP-4 actually).

Last one to 200 is a rotten egg. =P No, I'm kidding. Found a few more non-special chip games that don't work, including it looks like Der Langrisser (J) (V1.1) which the programmer doesn't recognize.

You guys are goooood >:D :D.

Thanks. Wait until I purchase the MD Myth 3in1 cart, then I'll go on a massive testing binge with it. =P

Somebody test Super Double Dragon (U) too and tell me if you see the same garbage I see before starting - otherwise the game seems to work okay. It doesn't do it when you reset the game normally, just after loading it from the menu.

About these:

Batman - Revenge of the Joker (U).smc
Galaxy Wars (J).smc
Space Invaders (U) [!].smc

They work fine once you switch them to LoROM instead of HiROM in the programmer, so it's just a ROM detection issue.  I'll try the other trouble games on your list, ronaldo, and Super Double Dragon (U) for you King of Chaos.

Post by: King Of Chaos on February 12, 2010, 08:09:50 AM
Yeah, that's what I thought was causing them to not work - just pointing out so they can be fixed. =P

EDIT: All the games listed as not working (ones not containing special chips) can indeed be fixed by setting HROM to LROM so that'll have to handled as they're found.

Since no one haven't talked about it , you can use a Gamecube cable and avoid the RF cable. It looks really great on my tv :D.

I use GameCube cable for both SNES and N64 and ofcourse GC itself  ::sm-07.gif::.

By the way , anyone has any idea how we can use virtual gameboy cart?
Is there any compiled release with vb bios + some gb roms ?

If anyone knows let me know , i have a Virtual Gameboy cart to test it  :D

All "nonworking" Games, working great when burn in LROM Format...

Thanks for the TIP.

** DETAILED TEST REPORT WILL FOLLOW **

UPDATE:
Go Go Ackman (J) 1 - 3 are detected wrong (HiROM instead of LoROM)!

UPDATE:
Pilotwings as DSP boot cart does not work (tested with NTSC-J and PAL Pilotwings cart).

The modified StarOcean ROM (Star Ocean no S-DD1/96Mbit hack) will not be detected correctly by Neo2 Ultra Menu (64Mbit instead of 96Mbit)

Yeah, I've noticed this myself. I wouldn't be surprised if that's not ever supported but I hope it is supported since the SNES PowerPak supports it already.

The Neo2 Ultra Menu should have *.sfc as compatible file extension in the open dialog box

I agree, since this is used in the No-Intro set.

Between Ronaldo_76 and myself, looks like the majority of the good games have been tested. =P Good work Ronaldo_76 on your list and good luck and have fun to the rest of the testers.

I'm thinking supporting the Super Game Boy is not going to be easy, if possible at all.

If we can load the bios there are high chances to make it work.
But first we must decompile the bios , modify the addressing to some hardcoded format strictly for NEO SFC/SNES cart and then compile it back.

I wonder if that bios file contains only WDC instructions or if there is other cpu attached. It might be even possible to boot the bios without the actual cart plugged.

Are you talking about putting .GB ROMs on the SNES Myth and running them on your SNES as if the SNES Myth was a Super Gameboy? I hope you realize that the Super Gameboy contains a lot of hardware - including a GB-Z80. What you'd need is essentially a Gameboy emulator running on the SNES Myth hardware, and I don't see that happening.

after Hours of testing Today... I need a Break!!!

Ditto, testing all those games within 2 days wore me out! =P

I test the Spezial Games on Weekend.

I wouldn't be too quick to test this yet, it seems like only DSP-1 games will work with the Super Mario Kart cartridge - although the video of it running a SA-1 game with AR enabled was neat, I just don't think right now it'll run any besides DSP-1.

Just "got" the GoodSnes set & by looking at your lists its so depressing.

It is. I prefer the No-Intro set to the GoodSNES set but since the programmer doesn't recognize the No-Intro set's file type I used the GoodSNES set which I fortunately had. The majority of the games included in the GoodSNES set are bad dumps, overdumps, hacks, etc. where as the No-Intro set is just the good dumps.

You have done insane job you two !!

Thanks, glad to help out and have the opportunity to test the flash cart. I'll be starting my review soon. Can we make requests for the menu/programmer, because I can think of a few things. =)

It would probably be easier to get a GB/GBC flash cart and using it through an actual Super Game Boy.

No what im saying is to make a tool that will patch the bios file , that will put a loader and you'll be able to add gb roms all compiled in a single file.

It will look like this:

--loader
---entries
----patched bios

Then the loader will override the default addressing of the rom to the one loaded in memory.

Of course with the SGB cart plugged in.

That's what i asked earlier if its possible to override the default addressing.

Edit:
For example , emulators like bsnes have already support for it , i want to know if we can do this on real hardware by "emulating" all serial read/writes and the mapping.

We have done a great Job the last two Days @King Of Chaos  ::sm-18.gif::
But at the Moment, i see only Squares.  ::sm-18.gif:: Haha
I can say: DSP Games running Perfect

You have test many Special Games. And nothing run... I test 1-2 Games - if no success, i leave it...

And sorry for my poor English.  :(

And you used Super Mario Kart, yes? I'm using Pilotwings with the same exact DSP-1 chip and no DSP-1 games work correctly through it. Anyone have any reason why this is? I thought it was because later SMK carts used the DSP-1B chip that has several fixes within it but I don't see how it'd make a difference and why Pilotwings can't play the DSP-1 games correctly. When I get my copy of Ballz 3D back from a friend, I'll test it with the DSP-1B.

Yes, with Super Mario Kart NTSC/US DSP-1 Games running Perfect...  :-*
Then i think, i have a DSP-1B Chip.

Great work King Of Chaos and ronaldo_76. You did a lot of testing the last two days.  ::sm-14.gif::
BTW, Top Gear 3000 (DSP-4) doesn´t work even with Top Gear 3000 as Bootcart attached...

i would like jumps in 10 steps - when pressing the left/right button.. ::sm-18.gif:: just like the megadrive menu
if i use a neo2 lite cart, it takes a long time to come to the last game!

Steps with 10 games on each side would be a nice feature!

found this pilotwings DSP fix:

Do you apply that to Pilotwings (the original cart) somehow or the games using Pilotwings as a boot cart?

EDIT: Tried the patch on the Pilotwings ROM and Super Mario Kart ROM and neither works.

I plan to try it out later once i finish something...
Title: Re: Testers report thread

No, it won't because the programmer/menu doesn't recongize a game over 64mb where as the decompressed Star Ocean is 96mb.

Yes you are right. Its not a hardware limitation by the way , just the programmer is limiting the size to (64 * MBIT) per rom.

PS:Thanks for the .smc dump :D

No problem, should be easy to support within the programmer. :)

No problem, should be easy to support within the programmer. :)

I made a quick tool to detect the header and patch some offsets that the programmer is checking and seems i was right , the programmer limits the size of the rom to 64 * mbit.

Also the header scoring code seems to be incorrect and detects wrong mapping and this results in wrong save type detection and many other things.

I will let ShivenYu know about this issue  ~sm-37.gif~

Yeah, that'd explain why some games try to run as HROM but fail to work - they need to run as LROM. There's a list of them, fortunately. :)
Title: Re: Testers report thread
Post by: ChillyWilly on February 16, 2010, 02:38:22 AM
That was the problem when I tried running the sample program from snes-sdk on the Myth. It set it as HROM and I didn't notice as I had selected a bunch of roms to write all at once. It failed to run, so I went back and looked more closely and saw it was HROM instead of LROM. Flipping that setting and burning the menu fixed the issue, but it would be nice if it got the setting correct automatically.

I have already started working on the plugin.
Still its not even 25% complete but it can detect the basic info :

It will contain all sort of patches(crc/pal-ntsc fixes/ips/detection of everything and multi header detection).

But the N64 plugin has higher priority for now, so patience!

ok, just for my understanding: the neomyth should be able to run ROMs larger than 64Mbit?

and there are a bunch of JPN games which are not detected correctly (for e.g. GO GO Ackman 1-3), it looks like the programmer application needs a lot of improvement in detection
Title: Re: Testers report thread
Post by: King Of Chaos on February 16, 2010, 03:45:49 AM
Well, it potentially can run anything larger than 64Mbit since the SNES is able to handle the 96Mbit Star Ocean. The programmer currently doesn't support anything over 64Mbit, but I'm sure it will soon enough.
Title: Re: Testers report thread
Post by: ChillyWilly on February 16, 2010, 04:26:12 AM
There hasn't been a release of info on the SNES Myth yet, but it looks very similar to the MD Myth - the Myth has 64Mbit of PSRAM that is loaded with the game to play from the flash (or eventually the SD card once I work on that). You'll notice in the test operation that 64 Mbit of PSRAM is tested, so I don't think there's more than that. That means 64 Mbits is (probably) the upper limit on games that can be run.

That would unfortunately suck. In any case, I'll be purchasing copies of Star Ocean and Street Fighter Alpha 2 regardless.

my question was regarding the NeoMyth hardware and not the SNES. I know quite well where the SNES hw limitation is and I also notice that the NeoMyth has "only" 64Mbit PSRAM which is from my point of view the limitation for anything larger. Since there is no official ROM (notice the official?) that is larger than 64MBit the NeoMyth HW was designed correctly and the programmer software is acting as it should :-)

Like I said, the SNES Myth seems to be very similar to the MD Myth - the bank addressing from the console is applied to the PSRAM, not the flash. That means that only stuff copied to the PSRAM in the Myth will act like regular ROM. The zip ram in the flash cart acts like flash, so if it can't be run directly from the flash, it can't be run directly from the zip ram either.

However, we cannot be certain of that just yet. It's just what I suspect from the operation of the MD Myth and the similarity between it and the SNES Myth.

4.  What is the largest game size supported?  One game is 96Mb in size! --- the NEO SNES have 128M AT LEAST,but can't support this game in current because it use a very special DSP chip , hope can use patcher to make it work in the future

So this probably means 128Mbit PSRAM  ~sm-42.gif~

The PSRAM test only goes to 64Mb, which is the same as the PSRAM on the MD Myth. I believe they use the same parts (FPGA, PSRAM, and SRAM). I need to take mine apart to confirm the part numbers. That would tell us for certain how much PSRAM there is.

Hmm you're probably right again & if you could compare the PNs it will help , but we really need an answer from Dr.Neo on this  ::sm-07.gif::

Whatever is the case , with the current hardware , a full software boot emulator might be possible.Nevitksti can tell for sure though since he 's already working on a boot emulator.

By the way ChillyWilly, one suggestion (if you're working on the SNES menu of course).

Can you try to write some dummy data over 64Mb(with some debug prints) to the PSRAM to see if it can go over?

I think this should give all answers.

I finally got my SNES Myth today so I tested some games after I got home from work. My console is an unmodded PAL SNES with CPU/PPU1/PPU2 revisions 2/1/3.

- Update 20100217: Tested some more games, including some SuperFX ones.

- Update 20100220: Tested some more games.

- Update 20100223: Tested some more games.

Homebrew demos (boot cart: F-Zero (E))
Abandon's 2.68 MHz demo : Works
Anthrox intro collection : Works (except for some of the intros)
Memblers' NSF player : Works
Censor's SIDMania : The opening screen is messed up, but it works fine after that.
Anthrox' 3D demo : Doesn't work.
Taurus - Final Insect : Mostly works, some graphics are messed up.

Normal games (boot cart: F-Zero (E)).
Actraiser (E) : Works
Bahamut Lagoon (J) (DeJap Eng) : Works
Black Thorne (U) : Works
BS F-Zero Grand Prix 2 (J) : Works
Castlevania Vampire's Kiss (E) : Works
Chibi Maruko-chan : Mezase! Minami no Island!! (J) : Works (required a PAL fix using SNESTool).
Chou Makaimura (J) : Works
Chrono Trigger (U) Works
Contra 3 (U) : Works
Cybernator (E) : Works
Cyborg 009 (J) : Works

Pinball Fantasies (E) : Works
Pocky & Rocky 2 (E) : Works
Robocop 3 (E) : Works
Rock 'n Roll Racing (E) : Works
Super Adventure Island II (E) : Works
Super Mario World (E) : Works
Super SWIV (E) : Works
Super Tetris 3 (J) Works (requires a PAL fix)
Tetris Attack (E) : Works
The Firemen (E) : Works
Violinist of Hameln (J) : Works
Wild Guns (E) : Works

DSP-1 games (boot cart: SNES PowerPak (E))
I currently don't have any SNES games with a DSP-1, but I do have a SNES PowerPak with a DSP-1 installed, so I thought I should at least try it out and see what happened. Unfortunately none of the DSP-1 games I tried worked with this setup, but that may be related to how the PowerPak works, so I wouldn't take it to mean anything at this point.

Pilotwings (E) : Doesn't work
Super Mario Kart (E) : Doesn't work

Cx4 games (boot cart: Rockman X2 (J)).
Since my copy of Rockman X2 is japanese and my console isn't region free I used an import adapter for this test. The adapter works fine with the japanese Rockman X2 cart alone so it has the necessary pins connected.

Rockman X2 (J) : Doesn't work
Rockman X3 (J) : Doesn't work

Neither of these games seem to be able to detect the Cx4 chip when running on the SNES Myth. Hopefully this can be fixed with updates in the Neo Ultra Menu. The current menu options aren't as clear as you'd like them to be, but I've tried DSP settings 5, 6 and 7 when burning Cx4 ROMs.

SuperFX games (boot cart: Stunt Race FX (E))
Tried DSP settings 5, 6 and 7 in the Neo Ultra Menu.

Stunt Race FX (E) : Doesn't work
Starwing (E) : Doesn't work

Some pictures:

The import adapter I'm using:

Chibi Maruko-chan : Mezase Minami no Island. Contains some fun mini-games:

Trying to use the PowerPak as a DSP-1 boot cart:

The course is messed up in Super Mario Kart:

Yeah - we need to wait for Dr.neo to release some info on the IO and the current menu before we can state one way or the other what the limit is on the rom size.

I Just got mine one hour ago.

-First observation is that I was using an old version of neo 2 ultra menu (2.98) that seems to work when you upload roms, but when you try it on a snes, the menu boots but not the games. So I downloaded 2.99 and everything works, a piece of cake xD.

-Second thing is that when I try games with a lot of white on screen like the "EA Sports" on ea games or splash screen in Beethoven's 2nd (U).smc, the left side moves for 2 seconds and later it shows normal.

I confirm:

DSP games with Pilotwings as DSP1 boot cart do not work (even Pilotwings it self). Tried the NTSC-J and PAL Pilotwings cart

With Mario Kart as DSP1 boot cart I'm getting no issues.

I got hold of some cheap special chip PAL carts today (PGA Tour '96 (SA-1), Winter Gold (SuperFX2), and possibly Pilotwings (DSP1)). Hopefully they'll arrive sometime during next week.

One feature that could be useful for the menu is detection of special chips in the boot cart, with the result displayed on the screen. I might look into this when the source code is released.

I moved my test results to the wiki (http://www.neoflash.com/wiki/doku.php?id=snes.sfc.compatibility.lists)

I used embedded HTML since I'm not that familiar with wiki formatting syntax. If someone else rather use wiki formatting or CSS then feel free to do so.

Very nice  , that will also work :D.
By the way , here you can find one example i made on how to use DW's tables:

I've put up a video on youtube that I captured off of my SNES while running the SNES Myth. I had to limit at 10 minutes because youtube won't let me upload longer videos.

Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn5Y1JzvuVs

Hey mic_ what system did you use to capture that?  I'm just curious because of the diagonal interference issue I've been seeing doesn't seem to occur on PAL consoles (because of the extra voltage?  I donno).
Title: Re: Testers report thread
Post by: mic_ on February 24, 2010, 05:45:43 AM
Do you mean the type of console, or the capture hardware?

The console is a PAL model, bought in Sweden. To capture I'm using the SNES' composite output connected to one of these: http://www.deltaco.eu/Details.aspx?PID=TV-57

Oh, sorry, yes I meant the game console.  Very interesting, it seems PAL SNES systems can get enough power to avoid the interference issue aggravated by the Neo Myth.

Thank you for the information!

DSP1 seems to support the game except

To solve the problem, the area code?
PAL and NTSC host can be used?

In the main operation NTSC game! PAL
Or NTSC host circulate PAL game!

So today i tried my new GB/GBC flashcart , well it works without SNES Myth + SGB cart, but when i try to plug the cart on SNES myth some weird
sound comes from the additional chip contacts and im afraid that they might get damaged. :(

Anyone experienced the same issue?

The only problem I've had regarding the SGB is Wario Blast not showing any picture when used through the myth but working fine without.
I don't have a GB flash cart :( I hope it's nothing serious.

Conle: Nope, I didn't notice anything strange. Do you still get that sound, or only when you're using the SGB?

Only when im plugging a cart on the back there is a small sound coming from the chip contacts. When i tried to plug the SGB the sound was scary so i stopped before i break all the contacts :(

it verks  ~sm-59.gif~.gif
Well at least it doesn't work less than before.

A Link to the Past launches, Mario Kart doesn't, so does somebody know if I also can solder the DSP1 into the Neo Myth?
Does anybody have some pinouts?

Edit: Regarding the pinouts, I'm testing them with my multimeter right now
Could somebody explain me this:

Pin 27 of DSP1 is: register select(A14 used when DSP is mapped to cartridge memory region, A12 used when DSP is mapped to expansion memory region).
On the Mario Kart cartridge I'm testing it is set to A12. When is it set to A14? If I solder it to A12 will it work for all DSP1 games?

Edit2:
Well, looks bad
(http://www.abload.de/img/dsppinouti11i.png)
The DSP1 (possible datasheet: http://www2.renesas.eu/_pdf/U12675EJ7V0DS00.PDF ) apparently needs two other decoder chips.
Datasheet of the Hex Inverter(top chip in above pic): http://www.chipcatalog.com/TI/SN74HCU04N.htm
Datasheet of the Demultiplexer: http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/S/N/7/4/SN74LS139AN.shtml
The question is, will it work without those chips?
I found this picture:
Its a modified DSP1 cart for old Snes copiers, seems like the DSP1 can at least do without the Demultiplexer thingie.
Picture of the SNES Power Pack, which has a dedicates spot to solder the DSP1 in:
Neoflash should think about a new revision of the Neo SNES Myth cart that has a place for a DSP1 to solder in.

Seems like it can't be done. At least not the easy way. At least not by me  ~sm-64.gif~.gif

Edit3:
Ok I figured out Pin 16 of the DSP1.
The reset signal comes from the SNES and goes from pin 26 of the cart connector to the input 6A of the hex inverter. Then from the output 6Y it goes to pin 16 of the dsp.
So I could just connect Pin 16 of the dsp to pin 26 of the Neo Myth cart as long as there is a hex inverter in between. Or not? Thats why the pinouts below say "16   RESET (inverted /RESET- SNES slot)"

Definitions:

A0-A15  - address bus A (offset)
BA0-BA7 - address bus A (bank)
/RD - read control line for address bus A
/WR - write control line for address bus A
/CART - set low by console's address decoder when address bus A is accessing memory
   in the cartridge region
/WRAM - set low by console's address decoder when address bus A is accessing memory
   in the WRAM region

/IRQ - a cartridge can pull this low to request an IRQ interrupt on the main CPU

PA0-PA7 - address bus B
/PARD - read control line for address bus B
/PAWR - write control line for address bus B

CIC - the security chip
(referred to as CIC because that's how it's labeled on cartridge boards)

EXPAND - line is pulled high through a resistor
the only other thing this is connected to is a pin of the expansion port
(probably meant to allow cartridges to know if something is in the expansion port)
CPU_CLOCK - I believe this is either the current memory access cycle clock, or it is the
current clock given to the CPU core. I need to do more verification to be sure.
I know that a 21.477MHz signal is given to the main CPU (+peripherals) chip, and
depending on the current memory access cycle, the CPU core is actually clocked at
3.58, 2.68, or 1.79 Mhz (divided down from the original 21.477MHz).
This line connects to the main CPU (+peripherals) chip, which I believe outputs
this system frequency, probably to allow a cartridge to stay synchronized with the
CPU's memory access cycles if it needs to.
REFRESH - This is also some kind of clock I believe.
I think it is output from the MainChip and connects to the WRAM.  It's probably
some kind of memory refresh signal.
Audio Inputs - whatever the cartridge puts on these lines will be mixed into the SNES's
   audio output.

DSP pins

This is how most DSP chips are hooked up.
(DSP is a uPD77C25 made by NEC)

               Vcc   01   28   Vcc
Vcc   02   27   register select(A14 used when DSP is mapped to cartridge memory region,
nc   03   26   /CS             A12 used when DSP is mapped to expansion memory region)
                nc   04   25   /RD
                nc   05   24   /WR
                D0   06   23   nc
                D1   07   22   nc
                D2   08   21   Vcc
                D3   09   20   Vcc
                D4   10   19   Vcc
                D5   11   18   Vcc
                D6   12   17   GND
                D7   13   16   RESET (inverted /RESET- SNES slot)
                D8   14   15   CLOCK

So whats left figuring out is pin 15 and pin 26 of the dsp.
The pinout above says pin 15 is clock and pin 26 is /CS.
What does /CS mean? And what clock? The clock signal from pin 57 and pin 1 of the cart connector is not used at all, so it must be another clock thingie.

Ok, thanks. The datasheet of the DSP1 says:
Quote
Inputs chip select signal (active low). “0”
input to this pin enables read/write
operation by host CPU via D0 through D7.
So if I connect this /CS pin to gnd, the DSP1 can read/write what ever things to D0-D7 and if I connect it to vcc something else will happen.
So I guess it will sometimes change from low to high and back during operation so I can't just solder it to gnd all the time?

Title: Re: Testers report thread

You'll probably want some sort of extra logic that sets /CS based on the address being written to (http://users.tpg.com.au/advlink/dsp/dsp1.html) and the type of your DSP-1 chip.
Title: Re: Testers report thread
Post by: sanni on July 05, 2010, 12:46:52 AM
Ok, thats seems to be the job of the SN74LS139AN chip.

So I guess I should figure out what is connected to 2G, 2A and 2B of the SN74LS139AN.
So if I want to solder a DSP1 into the Neo Myth I would also need to solder the SN74LS139AN and the SN74HCU04N in it.

Still wondering what the M 7600A 271 thing is though.
Title: Re: Testers report thread
Post by: sanni on July 05, 2010, 02:44:45 AM
Never mind, there is simply not enough room inside the Neo SNES Myth for three chips plus wiring.   ~sm-62.gif~.gif ~sm-62.gif~.gif
So I would say that it is impossible to fit a DSP1 into the Neo SNES Myth. The only solution would be a redesign of the Myth pcb so that the DSP-1 can be soldered in like the cic. If you need a tester for the new pcb design, I know one  ~sm-79.gif~.gif

Now I will send ronaldo his cart back ... well first I have to finish Zelda A Link to the Past of course  :)
