Title: MD Menu Error: CART Header can't be regognized on NEO2 Cart
Post by: Fab on June 23, 2013, 07:16:11 PM
I have the newest menu 2.8 and the NEO 2 Pro card with the MD3-in1 cart.

It's been a while since i was using it and I lost all the knowledge about the menu etc. but when Im in the MD Menu i get the message

*CART Header can't be regognized* or something like that. The LED flashes from green to red quickly all the time. and shows the file structure of the SD cart only a milisecond.

is the flash memory broken from the NEO 2 PRO Cart? Purchased it in 2010

PS: I wan't to us it for N64 and MD at the same time!

The latest software (both the menu and the Neo2 Pro Manager for the PC) can be found in this thread:
http://www.neoflash.com/forum/index.php/topic,5880.0.html

Once you have a reasonably recent menu on the flash cart, the menu can be loaded from the SD card for easy updating. Just copy the MDEBIOS.BIN file to the "menu/md/" directory on the SD card. The latest manager is pretty easy to use, and automatically checks if the menu in the flash matches the menu in the NEO2 program directory, and updates it if it isn't.

here is my video so far.

has it something to do with the md folder structure? ?! how can I replace a complete new structure? What is the DXCONF.CFG file good for? I have a doubt that this file is broken

ipsPath=menu/md/ips
cheatsPath=menu/md/cheats
savesPath=menu/md/saves
cachePath=menu/md/cache
md32xSaveExt=.srm
smsSaveExt=.ssm
brmSaveExt=.brm
romName=Sonic and Knuckles & Sonic 3 (JUE) [!].bin
romType=3

maybe is the connection issue, you should try to clean the neo cart golden finger, to make sure it's connection stable.

contacts should be fine... is my md 3-in-1 card broken or does it have to do something with the cfg files or menu structure?  ~sm-79.gif~.gif :'(

The menu structure looks fine. The config file can be deleted if you think there's a problem - the menu creates it when you select to run a rom... it holds info like the last rom you ran so it can handle saving the save memory the next time you boot the menu.

That said, if you check the cfg file and it looks bad, it's having trouble with the SD card which might indicate a compatibility issue. Not all SD cards work.

My cfg file looks like this

Quote
ipsPath=menu/md/ips
cheatsPath=menu/md/cheats
savesPath=menu/md/saves
cachePath=menu/md/cache
md32xSaveExt=.srm
smsSaveExt=.ssm
brmSaveExt=.brm
romName=*
romType=0

romName will ALWAYS be "*" unless you boot a rom, turn OFF the console, then look at the cfg file. Then it should have the name of the rom file you booted. The next time you boot the menu, the menu will deal with any lingering tasks associated with that rom, then set the name to "*" to indicate no rom has been selected to run yet.

Also, have you put the v2.9b3 MDEBIOS.BIN file into the menu/md directory? Does it load it at boot time or does it go straight to the 2.8 menu? If it doesn't load the menu from the SD card, it's not recognizing the SD card, which again may indicate a compatibility issue. You might also try burning the 2.9b3 menu to the flash as there have been changes made in the menu that MIGHT affect some SD cards (timing issues).

Okay, I just tried it on my systems...

I made sure the NEO2 Manager had the 2.9b3 MD menu file (MDBIOS.BIN).
I formatted the Neo2-Pro as N64 with path A2 (the U2 flash) set the the N64 menu file, and path A1 (the Neo2-Pro flash) set to MDBIOS.BIN. The boot path was set for A2 (N64 boots from U2 flash).
I noticed that it didn't seem to write the entire MD menu file, so I went to the Memory tab in the manager and wrote the MDBIOS.BIN file to Menu flash (4Mbits).
I then burned Conker to flash (since it's too big to load from SD), which went fine.
I booted the N64 and ran Conker from flash. I then rebooted and ran Doom from the SD card. All is fine on the N64.
I then transferred the Neo2-Pro to my CDX+MD Myth.
I booted just the Neo2-Pro - it's fine. I then inserted an SD with the 2.9b3 menu on it (same as in flash, but I wanted to see if it boots) and rebooted - it booted fine. I ran a MD and an SMS game... no problem.

So the only things I did different than what I mentioned earlier is to use the latest menu and to burn the MDBIOS.BIN manually after formatting as N64. So give that a whirl.

thank you so much for your support awesome!!!  ~sm-78.gif~.gif ~sm-78.gif~.gif

the only thing I did I switched some SD carts first with no success then without a clue it worked on both SD cards ?!!!!! must be really a contact issue.

I was worried that my MD 3-in1 was broken but that isn't the case now!

Thanks again 4 your help and keep up the good work!

You're welcome. And I've seen both SD cards and Neo2-SD/Pro carts that were a little picky about how you seated them. Unseat, then reseat them a couple times and they work. That's one of the issues with edge connectors like these things use - you don't get perfect connections 100% of the time, and some connectors can be VERY picky. It's one of the quirks you learn to deal with in situations like this.
 ??? ~sm-79.gif~.gif

But at least you have it working now.  ~sm-76.gif~.gif

So, it can run SMS game from SD card now, can't it.

You need the V5 hardware to run SMS games from the SD card. You also need to NOT have the 32X connected (can't play SMS through 32X). If you're using a Model 3 or a Nomad, you need to connect the SMS mode line from the cart port to the ASIC as Sega thoughtfully didn't bother on those two systems. Oh, and you need the Neo2-SD or Neo2-Pro... the Neo3-SD cannot run SMS from SD card since it lacks the zipram needed for holding the SMS game.

You can play Game Gear games on the N64 if you put the emulator in the menu/n64 directory as mentioned in the thread where the emulator support was released. The N64 supports running both NES and SMS now via emulators straight from the menu.

V5 Hardware?

V5 Hardware?

To run SMS games from the SDc you need the latest myth md 3in1 revision which has an upgraded CPLD core(V5) and fixes the odd data swapping "bug" whenever you do a write to a ZIPRAM mapped bank (Actually it writes random data every single time without a particular pattern...otherwise we could have hacked it around easily ) .

V5 Hardware?

The menu shows the version hardware on the screen. If you see V3, it's version 3, and if you see V5 it's version 5, and so on.
