ABBOTSFORD, B. Jason Williams Jersey .C. - Benn Ferrieros goal at 2:22 of overtime lifted the Utica Comets to a 1-0 win over the Abbotsford Heat in American Hockey League action Friday. Ferriero walked out from the corner and found space short side on goaltender Joni Ortio for the winner. Joacim Eriksson made 36 saves for the Comets (14-20-5), who have now won three in a row after winning just once in their previous nine. Ortio stopped 28 shots for Abbotsford (26-14-3). Markus Granlund had the first quality scoring chance of the game with eight minutes to go in the first. Eriksson, however, snared the hard wrister that was labelled for the top corner to keep the game scoreless. The Heat thought they scored at 5:24 of the second period. Sven Baertschis quick backhander seemed destined for the back of the net but Eriksson reached back with his paddle to pull the puck off the goal line. Though it was initially called a goal, upon review officials waved it off. With less than two minutes to go in the second Max Reinhart was sent in by Chris Breens perfect breakaway pass, but Eriksson kicked out his right pad to make the save. He made 24 through 40 minutes. Jordan Schroeder was playing his first game of the season after returning from a foot injury. The two teams face each other again Saturday night at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. Adam Wainwright doesnt understand why hes having a really tough time getting the Reds out. Shin-Soo Choo and Joey Votto homered on Monday as Cincinnati roughed up Wainwright for the second start in a row, and Mat Latos went the distance for the first time this season in a 7-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Latos (14-5) credited an offence that seems to have Wainwrights number. "It doesnt matter who were playing, but theres definitely more of an anxiety added when you have a guy like Wainwright," said Latos, who allowed four hits. "We were fortunate to be able to get to him today." Fortunate? Or maybe theyve figured him out? "I dont know about that," said Ryan Ludwick, who singled home a run. "I think weve gotten some pitches to hit the last two outings weve faced him, and weve done damage." Latos gave up a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly by Matt Holliday in his fourth career complete game. The third-place Reds are trying to end the Cardinals season-long dominance during their four-game series at Great American Ball Park. St. Louis has won the last seven series between the teams and is 10-6 against Cincinnati this year. "It starts at one," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "Hopefully this is just a beginning because weve got a lot of work to do, a long way to go." The Cardinals took two of three in St. Louis last week, the only loss coming when the Reds tagged Wainwright (15-9) for nine runs in a career-low two innings. They hit him hard again on Monday, piling up six runs and 10 hits in six innings. Wainwright isnt sure whats going on with him and the Reds. "The last time, it was a matter of me leaving too many ball in the middle of the plate," Wainwright said. "Today, they hit some good pitches. I feel very strong. Ive had some good games against them in the past. Its a head-scratcher, to be honest with you." Its an important series for Cincinnati, which now trails the Cardinals by 2 1/2 games. St. Louis opened the day tied with Pittsburgh for first place. The Reds maintain a comfortable lead for the ffinal NL wild-card spot. Vlade Divac Jersey. The last time the Cardinals visited Great American Ball Park, they won by scores of 13-3 and 15-2 during a one-sided series that left the Reds embarrassed. This one started much better for them. Wainwright fell to 5-9 career against Cincinnati. In his last two starts against the Reds, the right-hander has given up 18 hits and 15 runs in only eight innings. Hes 1-3 in four starts against Cincinnati this season with a 7.77 ERA. "Thats a real good pitcher," Baker said. "We have nothing but respect for Wainwright. Hes not the guy that you would exactly choose to face twice a week. Its a funny game." Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina came out of the game in the fifth inning because of a sore left wrist. He was activated off the 15-day disabled list on Aug. 15 after missing 14 games with a sore right knee. The Reds quickly got to Wainwright. Choo opened the first with a single and scored on Ludwicks two-out single. Ludwick missed more than three months with torn cartilage in his right shoulder, but the left fielder is starting to get his swing back in shape. Ludwick has driven in a run in each of his last four games. Zack Cozart singled home a run in the second, and Choos two-run homer made it 4-0. Choo leads all major league leadoff hitters with 19 homers. He has three homers during a six-game hitting streak, which includes four multihit games. Votto hit an up-and-away 1-2 pitch to the opposite field in left for his 21st homer in the fourth inning. NOTES: Cardinals RF Carlos Beltrans back was still sore on Monday, prompting manager Mike Matheny to keep him out of the starting lineup for a second straight day as a precaution. "Instead of trying to push him through, weve tried to pay attention to how he feels," Matheny said. "That should pay dividends in the long run." ... St. Louis 1B Matt Adams extended his slump to 0 for 14. ... The Reds called up OF Billy Hamilton and INF Neftali Soto and activated C Corky Miller off the 15-day DL before the game. ... PORTLAND, Ore. Cheap Bo Jackson Jersey . -- Long after all the fans had gone and the turf was being vacuumed of confetti, Real Salt Lake was still celebrating its Western Conference championship. Aided by a boom box, RSL players sang and danced as they headed for their bus following Sunday nights 1-0 victory over the Portland Timbers. The win gave Salt Lake a 5-2 aggregate advantage in the two-leg conference final. It also gave the team a spot in the MLS Cup against Sporting Kansas City on Dec. 7. "Its a good win for the team," said Robbie Findley, who scored the only goal in the second leg. "I think everybody put in the hard work, and when you have that, when you have all the guys committed to working hard and doing their jobs, you win games. We feel good right now, but we have one more to go." Salt Lake, which won the league championship in 2009, took a 4-2 lead two weeks ago at Rio Tinto Stadium in the first game of the conference final. Salt Lake has been to the playoffs for six straight seasons, the longest active streak in MLS. It lost to Seattle in the conference semifinals last season. RSL advanced to this years conference final by eliminating the two-time defending league champion Galaxy in the semis. Sundays victory extended RSLs unbeaten streak against Portland to 10 straight matches. The Timbers remain winless against Real Salt Lake since their first meeting when Portland joined MLS in the 2011 season. Portland went into the match with just one home loss this season. The Timbers were looking to become the first team in nine years to come back from a two-goal shortfall in the second match of an aggregate-goals series. Portland appeared to score off a corner in the 15th minute but the goal was waived off by the referee because of a foul in the box, frustrating the sellout crowd at Jeld-Wen Field. Findley had a rebound goal in the 29th minute. The RSL reserves spilled off the bench to join the celebration on the sideline, while Timbers first-year coach Caleb Porter looked on with pursed lips. Portland had a second goal nullified in the 33rd minute when Futty Danso was called offside by the linesman. "If Portland scores the first goal, they have all the momentum, theyre on their home field, theyve got their fans behind them and I think we would have been in a really, really tough place," RSL coach Jason Kreis said. "If we score the first goal, now its three goals, now they get a little desperate, some heads are hanging and theres some frustration involved. So great that we got the goal. Probably wasnt the prettiest one weve ever scored, but well take it and I thought we handled the match well from there." Porter said the officiating wasnt to blame, but he couldnt understand why the Timbers first goal was called back. He called it a "phantom foul." "Im left scratching my head as to what he saw on that play," Porter said. The Timbers outshot Real Salt Lake 18-7 for the match. "You could see their maturity, you could see their experience," Porter said about Salt Lake. "And they did what they needed to do." Salt Lake was without striker Alvaro Saborio, the teams leading scorer with 12 goals this season, because of a right hip flexor injury that also kept him out of the first leg. He did not travel to Portland. Salt Lake defender Chris Wingert was also out because of a broken rib and collapsed lung from the first leg. Meanwhile, Portlands top scorer, Diego Valeri, had struggled with an adductor injury, but practiced at full speed this week and started. Sporting advanced to the final with a 2-1 victory over Houston in the second leg of the Eastern Conference final on Saturday. The teams played to a scoreless draw in the first match. Its Sportings first trip to the MLS Cup since 2004. The Timbers finished last season 8-10-16 for eighth place in the conference and 17th in the league. But they made a dramatic turnaround under Porter, finishing atop the conference for their first playoff appearance. Cheap Jeff Keppinger Jersey . The Blue Jackets announced the injury through their official Twitter account Friday afternoon. Gaborik, 31, has scored five goals and six assists in 17 games with the Blue Jackets in 2013-14.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Calgary Flames resume their playoff push on Tuesday night when they kick off a six-game homestand against the NHLs basement dwellers, the Buffalo Sabres. The surprising Flames own a one-point lead over the Los Angeles Kings for the second wild card position in the Western Conference and are just two points back of the third-place Vancouver Canucks in the Pacific Division. Calgary has not made the playoffs since 2009. The Flames were hoping to carry a nice-sized winning streak into the All-Star break, but instead had a four-game run halted with a 6-3 road loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday despite forward Sean Monahan scoring for a fourth game in a row. Joe Colborne and Mikael Backlund also lit the lamp, but Joni Ortios fifth straight start ended less than 10 minutes into the second frame as he allowed four goals on 11 shots. Jonas Hiller made 13 saves on 14 shots faced in relief. We were just not getting the breaks today, Ortio said. We had some good chances, an open net and it just wasnt going our way tonight. Ortio had gotten the call in each game since getting recalled from the minors when Karri Ramo sustained an upper-body injury. However, Ortio was assigned to back to the American Hockey League before the break and Hiller will start tonight. Hiller has not started a game since giving up six goals on 35 shots in a loss to Florida on Jan. 9. He is 3-2-0 lifetime versus the Sabres with a 3.02 goals against average and .888 save percentage. The Sabres resume a string of five straight on the road having lost a club- record 11 straight games in regulation. They are 1-14-1 in their past 16 games and last in the NHL with 31 points. Buffalo appeared in position to snap its skid on Jan. 18 in its final game before the break, taking a three-goal lead over Detroitt in the first period. Cheap White Sox Jerseys Authentic. However, the Red Wings netted the next five goals and ended up winning a 6-4 decision. Tyler Ennis notched two goals and an assist in defeat, while Chris Stewart and Drew Stafford also scored. Jhonas Enroth yielded all six goals on 26 shots faced. That first period, we were proactive. We went on the attack, Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers told his teams website. We kind of had a no respect look to our team that we hadnt had in a while and come in the second, it seemed like we gave them too much respect after that. Defenseman Nikita Zadorov had two assists versus the Red Wings, but is not expected play tonight as the Sabres suspended him for his failure to report to the team on time following the All-Star break. Sabres general manager Tim Murray said that he expects the 19-year-old Zadorov, who missed Mondays practice, to join the club during its upcoming road trip through western Canada. Buffalo will visit Edmonton and Vancouver following this game before wrapping this trip in Montreal. The Sabres also are without goaltender Michal Neuvirth, who sustained a lower- body injury while working out during the break, but captain Brian Gionta is expected to be in action tonight after missing the previous 13 games with an upper-body ailment. Matt Hackett, meanwhile, was recalled from the minors to back up Enroth, who is 2-0-1 with a 1.99 GAA and .941 save percentage in three career encounters with the Flames. Enroth made 42 saves in a 4-3 victory at home over the Flames on Dec. 11, with Matt Moulson scoring twice and Ennis recording three assists. Monahan had a goal for the Flames and Ramo made 15 saves in defeat. Calgary has won four straight at home in this series, with Buffalo not picking up a road win over the Flames since Oct. 18, 2003. PASADENA, Calif. Cheap Boston Red Sox Jerseys . -- Linebacker Myles Jack ran for four touchdowns, defensive end Cassius Marsh caught a scoring pass, and No. 13 UCLA stayed in control of its destiny in the Pac-12 South race with a 41-31 victory over Washington on Friday night. Devin Lucien turned a short pass into a 40-yard TD with 9:57 to play, and the Bruins (8-2, 5-2 Pac-12) got creative to hold off a lively challenge from the Huskies (6-4, 3-4), who lost starting quarterback Keith Price to a shoulder injury right before halftime. Jack followed up his 120-yard debut at running back last week by becoming the 13th player in UCLA history to score four touchdowns. Cyler Miles passed for 149 yards after replacing Price, but the Huskies have lost nine of their last 12 Pac-12 road games. Damoreea Stringfellow, Jaydon Mickens and Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught TD passes for Washington, which hasnt beaten UCLA at the Rose Bowl since 1995. For the second straight week, Bruins offensive co-ordinator Noel Mazzone dipped into the defences roster to win an exhilarating meeting of two bowl-bound teams with prolific offences. Jack, the Bruins remarkable freshman from a Seattle suburb, finished with the most rushing TDs since Maurice Jones-Drew set the school record with five scores in 2004. Jack and the hulking Marsh scored the Bruins first five touchdowns as UCLA stayed right behind division leader Arizona State, which visits Pasadena next weekend. UCLA coach Jim Mora had been coy about whether Jack would even play offence again, but the freshman jumped in during the Bruins opening series, rushing for an 8-yard score on his first carry. Used mostly as a short-yardage back, he added two more scores in the first half and finished with 60 yards on 12 carries. Oh, and he also made five tackles. Brett Hundley passed for 159 yards for the Bruins, who led 27-7 early in the second quarter and were up 34-24 heading to the fourth. The Huskies kept it close despite losing their starting quarterback on a hit late in the second quarter. Miles, a redshirt freshman, had played only sparingly this season behind Price, a three-year starter who holds Washingtons career record for touchdown passes. Miles went 15 for 22, but threw two interceptions on consecutive throws in the final minutes. Stringfellow, a freshman with three catches all year, had eight receptions for 147 yards and a score with 8:01 to play. He also had a long TD catch wiped out in the first half by one of Washingtons 11 penalties for 113 yards. Bishop Sankey rushed for 91 yards and a score for the Huskies, who dropped to 7-20 on the road during coach Steve Sarkisians five seasons. The Bruins wore their black "L.A. Midnight" uniforms on a rare Friday night game at the Rose Bowl, but the stadium was roughly half-full at kickoff while fans struggled through Los Angeles usual Friday traffic. UCLA still led 14-0 less than six minutes in on two short scoring drives set up by Huskies turnovers. Jordan Zumwalt forced Seferian-Jenkins fumble on Washingtons opening series, and Jack rumbled for UCLAs first score just 2:38 in. Marsh then caught his 2-yard play-action TD pass on a short drive set up by Sankeys fumble near midfield. After the Huskies made a 95-yard scoring drive capped by Sankeys TD run, Washington could have recovered a fumble by Jack after a 25-yard run -- but Shaq Thompson failed to fall on the ball. Two plays later, Jack scored from 1 yard out. Jacks third TD surge put the Bruins up by 20 points, but the Huskies finally answered with Mickens short TD catch 6:11 before halftime set up by Malcolm Jones fumble. Price left the field grimacing after his final snap of the first half, and he returned to the sideline in the third quarter in a warmup suit and cap. Miles showed no nerves while leading the Huskies on a 26-yard scoring drive after UCLA fumbled the second-half kickoff, hitting Seferian-Jenkins for a score. But UCLA answered with Jacks fourth TD run, this time from 2 yards out. UCLAs defence had much more success against Miles, repeatedly stopping the Huskies on third downs. Washington successfully faked a punt and had a field goal attempt blocked later in the third quarter, but couldnt move consistently. After UCLA stopped the Huskies on fourth down with about 10 minutes left, Lucien turned a short reception into a 40-yard score with a sprint through the secondary, putting the Bruins back up by 17. Zack Greinke pitched three-hit ball into the eighth inning and Hanley Ramirez homered to lead the streaking Dodgers to a 4-0 victory over new manager Ryne Sandberg and the slumping Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. The defeat capped a tumultuous and emotional day for Philadelphia. Charlie Manuel, the winningest manager in club history, was fired earlier in the day by general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., who broke down when delivering the news. "It was a roller coaster of a day emotionally," Sandberg said. "It affected me and I think it affects the players." Sandberg, the Hall of Famer and former Cubs second baseman, was promoted from third base coach to interim manager. But the Phillies, who have lost 20 of 24, didnt play any differently for Sandberg. The Dodgers didnt play any differently, either. Ramirezs two-run homer in the fourth was all the offence Greinke (11-3) needed to lead Los Angeles to its season-best ninth straight win and 18th victory in its last 19 road games. The Dodgers are 41-8 since June 22. Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly said his clubs approach is simple: just win. "The plan is intact, just win every night," he said. "I want to win every day." Jokingly asked if all the winning has gotten boring, Mattingly said, "Are you kidding me? Its been great." Greinke won his third straight start while outpitching Cliff Lee (10-6) in a matchup of former AL Cy Young Award winners. The right-hander struck out three and walked four. "I felt pretty good. I was just trying to make pitches," Greinke said. "Im just trying to do my job and the bullpen has been incredible. Lately everybody is talking about it. Nothing is going bad. The pitching, the defence, the hitting and the bullpen have been great. Weve won a lot of close games. You expect to win. Thats how its been." Its been the opposite for the Phillies, even on days when they get a strong pitching performance. Lee, who entered 0-3 with a 5.63 ERA in his last four starts, looked more like the $120 million pitcher he is by tossing eight strong innings. He allowed three runs on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Ramirez had one of those hits, a drive to left in the fourth that put Los Angeles ahead 2-0. He is 8 for 16 with three homers against Lee. "Other than that, I was pleased," Lee said. But no one who spoke in the Phillies clubhouse was happy about Manuels departure. "I definitely enjoyed Charlie and liked playing for him," Lee said. "I thought he did a good job. Its definitely our fault. We werent getting it done." And they couldnt get it done against the Dodgers. Los Angeles added a run in the seventh on Mark Ellis double and another in the ninth on Scott Van Slykes single. "Everybodys just trying to do their job, not try to do too much," Ramirez said. The Phillies, as has been the case for most of the second half, had no answer. Sandberg questioned the teams focus before thee game, calling its play "lackadaisical" at times lately. Cheap Johnny Pesky Jersey. Philadelphias batters appeared to be trying, but they couldnt produce runs off Greinke or three Dodgers relievers. The Phillies finished with just three hits while being shut out for the 11th time. "Not executing and lackadaisical play are completely different but look the same," Philadelphia shortstop Jimmy Rollins said. The Phillies threatened in the eighth, loading the bases with two outs before Ronald Belisario struck out Darin Ruf. Its been that kind of season for Philadelphia, especially lately. Manuel paid for it. The 69-year-old skipper was in the final year of his contract and wanted to manage another two or three seasons. "I never quit nothing and I didnt resign," Manuel said, making it clear he was pushed out the door. Phillies fans responded to the news by bringing impromptu signs to the game thanking Manuel for his tenure. One of the loudest cheers of the evening went to a young boy shown on the electronic scoreboard wearing a T-shirt that read: "Thanks Charlie. Ill Miss You." Sandberg managed the Phillies Triple-A team at Lehigh Valley the previous two seasons. He was part of one of the most lopsided trades in baseball history when the Phillies traded him and Larry Bowa to the Cubs for shortstop Ivan DeJesus in 1982. Amaro said Sandberg takes over on an interim basis and would be evaluated after the season. Sandberg inherited a team that entered Friday 20 1/2 games out of first place in the NL East. "These guys are professional players, theyre getting paid well," Sandberg said. "Sometimes players have to dig deeper, play with pride, play with heart and for the name on the front of the uniform." Manuel won his 1,000th game as a manager on Monday in Atlanta. Two days later, he sat in the dugout knowing it would be his last game after Amaro informed him of the decision not to extend his contract. The Phillies had planned to honour Manuel on Friday by presenting him with a base signed by every member of the team. Those plans were cancelled. Manuel led Philadelphia to the franchises second World Series title in 2008 and brought the team back to the Series in 2009, when the Phillies lost to the Yankees in six games. Manuel was 780-636 with the Phillies and won five straight NL East titles from 2007-11. He also spent three years as manager of the Cleveland Indians, winning the AL Central in 2001. NOTES: It was the Dodgers 15th shutout of the season. ... Dodgers C A.J. Ellis took a foul ball by Ruf off his left knee in the eighth. A limping Ellis remained in the game. ... The Dodgers recalled Van Slyke from Triple-A Albuquerque and optioned shortstop Dee Gordon to their top farm club. Van Slyke went 1 for 4 with an RBI. ... Philadelphia placed left-hander John Lannan on the disabled list with left knee tendinosis and recalled right-handed reliever B.J. Rosenberg, who has a 12.00 ERA in three appearances this season. ... ST. Tony Gonzalez Jersey . PETERSBURG, Florida – The time for talking is over. Its put up or shut up time. A pivotal season, the Blue Jays 38th in Major League Baseball, gets underway at Tropicana Field on Monday afternoon. Last springs eternal optimism has been replaced by this springs eternal doubt. Jobs are on the line if 2014 takes on a pattern similar to 2013. That certainly goes for manager John Gibbons. The heat already is being turned up on general manager Alex Anthopoulos. The players know it, including the ace knuckleballer for whom much was traded away over a year ago. "Guys really know that this is a big year for us collectively," said R.A. Dickey, who will make his second consecutive opening day start for the Blue Jays. "Were kind of getting a mulligan this year. Last year a lot of things went wrong. This year were pretty much all healthy, were here, weve been here all spring, weve been able to do relationships with one another and now were in a much different place than we were last year and its a much more comfortable place." While its nice that a full season has bred greater familiarity, the degree to which teammates are comfortable around one another will only take them so far. The Blue Jays go into the season with a starting rotation full of question marks on the heels of last year, when the club finished 29th out of 30 teams in starting staff ERA (4.81). "Thats the key to our success this year, thats the key to anyones success is how well you pitch as far as giving you a chance," said manager John Gibbons. "Were ready to go. Weve had a good spring all year." All things being equal, namely health, you know what youll get from Dickey and Mark Buehrle. The knuckleballer will be among the American League leaders in innings pitched, he was second last year with 224 2/3 innings despite pitching most of the first half with a strained muscle in his neck, and if Dickeys spring is any indication he could improve upon last years numbers (14 wins, 4.21 ERA). "I feel prepared. I feel confident, which is great," Dickey said after his final Grapefruit League start on March 26. "Last year I didnt feel very confident simply because I didnt feel as prepared. Im really looking forward to getting started and being able to adjust my schedule this year in a way that really maximizes my preparedness has been great." Buehrle, whose 12 wins and 203 2/3 innings in 2013 marked the 13th consecutive season hes achieved double-digit victories and more than 200 innings pitched, said of his changeup after an early March outing that it hadnt been that good in three years. Typically a slow starter, Buehrles 4.32 career ERA in the month of April is his worst for any month of the season. The joke has been how good he feels. "Its a joke but not a joke," explained Buehrle. "At times you go through your little stretches where you almost say, man, I wish I was giving up some hits and home runs to kind of get them out of the way for the season. But I feel good. I mean, obviously the results in spring training dont mean stuff but you still want to get people out no matter whether its spring training or the regular season. I feel good and I think thats the biggest thing Im taking out of this camp is I feel healthy, Im ready to go and hopefully the results are there." Throw Drew Hutchison and Brandon Morrow in the questionable category. Hutchison is there because hes 23 years old and likely to experience the normal ups and downs of any young pitcher, not to mention he has limited minor league innings under his belt following last summers return from Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery. Still, Hutchison was the Jays best pitcher this spring. He earned a starting job on merit and appears poised to resume a career halted by injury in June, 2012. Morrow, entering the final guaranteed year of his contract (the Blue Jays hold a $10 million option for 2015), must prove he can not only remain healthy but that he can pitch effectively, consistently. The Jays need Morrow to be his 2012 version (10-7, 2.96, 1.115 WHIP) save for the two and a half months lost to an oblique strain. Dont think the 29-year-old doesnt feel he has a point to prove. "You definitely dont want to be labeled as somebody injury prone," said Morrow. "My goal is to go out there and make every start this year. I had a positive spring so Im feeling good about it." Its a wait-and-see, hold-your-breath approach with Dustin McGowan, wholl be closely monitored not only during his outings but in between starts. The 32-year-old is returning to the starting rotation on a full-time basis for the first time since 2008. Multiple shoulder surgeries and various other injuries later, McGowans story is testament to his resolve but also a reflection of the Blue Jays lack, at the moment, of quality starting pitching depth. Aaron Sanchez, Marcus Stroman and Sean Nolin are on the way but arent ready yet. Todd Redmond or J.A. Happ, once the issues with his wonky back get worked out, are the immediate fallback plans should McGowan falter. Anything the Jays get from McGowan has to be considered gravy given what hes been through. CASEY JANSSEN TO DISABLED LIST The Blue Jays have placed closer Casey Janssen on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 29, with what the club is calling a left abdominal/back strain. Janssen, 32, made only three spring appearances, all in the last week, after dealing with pain and stiffness in the back of his pitching shoulder for most of camp. Reached for comment, Janssen told TSN.ca he isnt worried about the state of his shoulder, which was surgically repaired more than a year ago. "Shoulder is feeling good," said Janssen. "Maybe compensated for it but, no, shoulder is good to pitch." Sergio Santos will replace Janssen as the clubs closer for the time being. Catcher Erik Kratz, who lost out to Josh Thole for the back-up job to Dioner Navarro, has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo. McGOWAN THROWS SIMULATED GAME Dustin McGowan threw a 77-pitch simulated game at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium on Sunday. General manager Alex Anthopoulos, speaking on a Sunday afternoon conference call, said that as of this moment McGowan is on track to start the home opener on Friday against the Yankees. McGowan describes himself as a "second day pain guy," meaning his shoulder is most uncomfortable following his second sleep after a start. Regardless, at the moment the 32-year-old appears to have cleared all hurdles in his attempt to return to the starting rotation. Chris Lindstrom Jersey . Lack replaced an injured Roberto Luongo late in the first period then watched defenceman Chris Tanev score the winning goal midway through the third as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Jets 2-1 in a tight NHL game. The Thunder earned the Game 1 win with a 100-86 victory Saturday night. Oklahoma City dominated the first half and led by 22 at the break, but saw its lead shrink to just two points in the fourth quarter.SOCHI, Russia – In light of another devastating loss to injury, Swedish defender Erik Karlsson need only recall what occurred in Ottawa last season when it seemed a rash of injuries would derail his Senators season. Only it didnt. Despite losing Karlsson, their no.1 defenceman, Jason Spezza, their no. 1 centre and Craig Anderson, their no. 1 goalie, Ottawa s****ed and scratched toward a remarkable season in 2012-13, finishing as an unlikely seventh seed in the Eastern Conference before upsetting the Montreal Canadiens in the first round. And so now despite losing captain Henrik Zetterberg for the remainder of the Olympics with first-rate centre Henrik Sedin and rugged winger Johan Franzen already on the shelf, Sweden is prepared to defiantly march on. Backed by a 26-save shutout from Henrik Lundqvist and a late third period goal from Daniel Alfredsson, they did just that on Friday, edging the Swiss at Bolshoy Ice Dome in a hotly-contested preliminary round battle. "It doesnt really change anything in our mindset," said Karlsson of the Zetterberg absence, following the 1-0 victory against a feisty Switzerland squad. "Weve just got to foocus on what we have and we have a pretty good group of guys without those guys as well so we should be able to play some good hockey, even though we miss them a lot. Kaleb McGary Jersey. " "Every team goes through injuries," added Alex Steen brashly, starting the tournament alongside Zetterberg and Gabriel Landeskog. "Its the same in the NHL as it is in the Elite League as it is in the Olympics, part of the job. Its [the media who] make it a bigger deal." Even without Zetterberg, Sedin and Franzen, the Swedes still boast a fair share of slick skill and talent with Patrik Berglund now alongside Steen and Landeskog and Nicklas Backstrom firing between Daniel Sedin and Loui Eriksson. And with continued excellence from Lundqvist between the pipes and an easy-moving, oft-explosive defence fronted by Karlsson and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, their shot at reclaiming gold for the first time since 2006 remains intact – if not slightly more difficult. "I could just feel my energy went down when I heard the news," said Lundqvist of Zetterberg, who is suffering from a herniated disc. "But at the same time, you have to regroup." The Vancouver Canucks have traded goalie Roberto Luongo back to the Florida Panthers. Jae Crowder Jersey . Luongo rejoins the Panthers after having been traded to Vancouver eight seasons ago. The Canucks receive prospect goalie Jacob Markstrom and centre Shawn Matthias in return. Luongo had requested a trade last off-season before Cory Schneider was dealt to the New Jersey Devils. Rumours began that Luongo might want out after Eddie Lack was given the start in the Canucks Heritage Classic game with the Ottawa Senators. "I was not expecting it," Luongo told reporters shortly after the trade. "Go figure, right? Im happy for myself and my family and a little bit sad to be leaving Vancouver." Luongo spent five seasons with the Panthers from 2000-01 to 2005-06 before playing the past eight years with the Canucks. In 42 games this season, Luongo has a .917 save percentage and 2.38 goals against average. "Roberto is one of the games elite goaltenders and we are happy to welcome him back to South Florida," Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said. "With this acquisition, we have solidified our goaltending depth with a top-tiered netminder for the next several seasons." He now joins Tim Thomas, the goaltender he faced in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final when they lost to the Boston Bruins, and a young Panthers team. Asked on TSN Radio 1050 about being teammates with Thomas, Luongo laughed and said: "I dont know, well see how it goes when I get there." Luongo said he has no hard feelings towards the Canucks looking back over his eight seasons in Vancouver. "All in all it was a great run. There was a lot of stuff that happened in between but I have nothing but good things to say about the fans that were really supportive especially towards the end. This organization brought my game to another level. Its all positive stuff." Canucks president and general manager Mike Gillis spoke to the media following the trade and was asked if the Canucks planned any more moves before Wednesdays trade deadline. "I dont know if were done yet or not," Gillis said. "Were trying to get younger, get more depth and more balance." Matthias has nine goals and 16 points in 59 games for the Panthers this season. Markstrom has spent the majority of the year with the Panthers AHL affiliate in San Antonio where he was recently named AHL goalie of the month. The Canucks are also sending minor leaguer Steven Anthony to Florida and will retain 15 per cent of Luongos salary. Derrick Favors Jersey . LOS ANGELES -- Zack Greinke is in midseason form. Wholesale Pirates Jerseys . Cole Hamels is just starting his season. Greinke outpitched Hamels with seven strong innings, Hanley Ramirez homered and Yasiel Puig drove in two runs for the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night. "It wasnt like everything was incredible, but I could use anything in or away at any time," Greinke said. "For the most part, throughout my whole career, Ive had at least two pitches. There have been very few games where I dont have two pitches working, and usually theres three." Greinke (4-0) allowed two runs and five hits while striking out 11 and walking one batter intentionally. Manager Don Mattingly tried to squeeze one more inning out of the right-hander, but lifted him after Jayson Nix drove Greinkes 108th pitch to left-centre for a leadoff homer. J.P. Howell got three outs in the eighth, and Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save after the Dodgers picked up a couple of insurance runs in the eighth on Ramirezs leadoff homer to centre and Justin Turners RBI single off Shawn Camp. Greinke is off to the second-best start of his 11-year career. He won his first six decisions in 2009 with Kansas City, when he finished 16-8 and established career bests with a 2.16 ERA and 242 strikeouts en route to the AL Cy Young Award. "Hes been a great pitcher. He took off in Kansas City when he won that Cy Young and hes been good ever since," Hamels said. "Hes a true competitor and hes pretty smart. He definitely knows how to pitch, and you know when you have to face a guy like him, you have to keep the other guy from scoring because hes going to do the same." It was Greinkes 18th double-digit strikeout game in the majors and his first in 33 starts with the Dodgers. This was the 17th consecutive start in which Greinke pitched at least five innings while allowing fewer than three runs. Hamels took the loss in his season debut, after missing the first three weeks because of biceps tendinitis. The 30-year-old left-hander made 86 pitches, allowing two runs and six hits over six innings with five strikes and a walk. He made 30 or more starts in each of the previous six seasons, so starting the season this late was an adjustment for him. "Thats in the past. I dont really think about last year or last week. I just keep going forward and try to get healthy," Hamels said. "I was worried about what I had to do -- build up my pitch going and get ready to start every five days. Thats what transpired for the past couple of weeks. Thats kind of all I could do. "I knew what I was going into. It was just a matter of preparing myself just like I normally have and getting ready in a spring training-type setting. It was just a couple of weeks later than everybody else." Puig struck out his first two times up, but lined an RBI single to right in the fifth to put the Dodgers ahead 2-1 after Hamels gave up a two-out single by Drew Butera and walked Greinke. "You can never walk the pitcher. I understand Greinke is a very good hitter, but at the same time, you have to let him hit his way on," Hamels said. "That right there was the ballgame. It decided everything in terms of what transpired in the next inning and it racked up my pitch count right there." Juan Uribes sacrifice fly gave Los Angeles 1-0 lead in the second, after Matt Kemp led off with the first of his two doubles. Ryan Howard tied it in the fourth with an RBI single after a leadoff double by Jimmy Rollins. "One of the keys, where Rollins hit that leadoff double, I didnt even try to keep him from scoring," Greinke said. "It would be really tough. As long as you just limit it to that one run, its not that big of a deal. Thats kind of the mindset. Its been working." Greinke had nine strikeouts through the first five innings, including five in a row after Howards hit. Greinke doubled with two outs in the seventh and scored on Puigs triple off the right field fence. NOTES: Two-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw will make a minor league rehab start on Friday with Class A Rancho Cucamonga as he works his way back from a muscle strain in his upper back. ANAHEIM, Calif. Cheap Kansas City Royals Jerseys . - Jered Weaver and Jon Lester both made their big league debuts in 2006. Both have pitched a no-hitter, both are three-time All-Stars. One glaring difference: Lester has two World Series rings, Weaver has none. Friday night marked the first time they have started against each other in the majors, and Weaver outpitched Lester to lead the Los Angeles Angels over Oakland 4-0 and extend their AL West lead over the As to three games. "Hopefully, Ill have one of those rings on my finger one of these days," said Weaver, now 8-1 over his last 14 starts. "Thats the only thing I play for. I dont play for anything else than winning. My main goal is to win a World Series. Thats what everybody should play the game for. Tonight I was just trying to match Lester inning by inning." A night after the Angels edged the Athletics 4-3 in 10 innings, they won with pitching and power. Albert Pujols hit his 516th career homer and Chris Iannetta hit a two-run shot despite a valiant effort by centre fielder Coco Crisp for a 2-0 lead in the fifth. That was enough for Weaver and the bullpen. Weaver (15-7) threw three-hit ball for seven innings, striking out three and walking three. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the sixth by retiring Josh Reddick on a flyball. Lester (13-9) gave up two earned runs in six innings. He is 0-2 in his last three starts after going 7-0 with a 1.46 ERA over his previous 11 outings for Boston and Oakland. Erick Aybar led off the fifth with a single that extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Iannetta followed with a towering drive to left-centre that kept carrying before Crisp caught up to it and got a glove on the ball with a desperate leap. But the ball popped out of his mitt and wound up on the other side of the 8-foot fence. "I was just trying to time it," Crisp said. "Running back, I knew I could catch it. I caught it, but as soon as I hit the wall, with the momentum of the yank, the ball just kind of slung out of there." Crisp strained his neck on the play and was replaced by Craig Gentry. "It was an unbelievable effort. He came out of nowhere to get to it," manager Bob Melvin said. "Weve seen him hit the wall hard several times before — no more so than that." "I was worried about his head, too, the way he hit the wall, and we thought it was a concussion because he was a little shook up. But his neck is the issue again. Weve had to deal with that before, and we have to again," he said. Iannetta got another RBI in the sixth when Lester walked him on a full count with the bases loaded. The run was unearned, the result of consecutive two-out errors by third baseman Josh Donaldson and shortstop Eric Sogard. Oaklands only hit over the first five innings was a two-out double in the fourth by Donaldson that crossed over the bag before bouncing into foul territory. Stephen Vogt followed with a drive that All-Star centre fielder Mike Trout gloved on the dead run just as he reached the fence in left-centre. Weaver was bailed out by his defence again in the fifth, when left fielder Josh Hamilton caught Alberto Callaspos flyball for the second out while diving across the foul line with two men on. TRAINERS ROOM Athletics: SS Jed Lowrie, who hasnt played since Aug. 13 because of a broken right index finger, will begin a two-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday. He tore the patellar tendon in his left knee on Aug. 20 at Boston, and the recovery time is six to nine 9 months. UP NEXT Athletics: Jeff Samardzija (4-3, 3.86 ERA) looks to win back-to-back starts for the first time since last August with the Chicago Cubs. The only time he ever faced the Angels in the regular season was July 10, 2013, when he surrendered nine runs in 4 2-3 innings and four home runs — two by Hamilton — in a 13-2 loss at Wrigley Field. Angels: Manager Mike Scioscia didnt announce before the game who would start Saturday. It would have been Richards second turn through the rotation. Happy New Year! Hope each and every one of you and your families have a wonderful 2014. Wilt Chamberlain Jersey . All the best!  A few quick NBA Thoughts.                    1. PATRICK PATTERSON (Raptors): Hes impressed me with his toughness and skill level. Hes got a nice face up game and works hard to establish positive post position inside. Hes also a strong and steady interior defender who fights for every inch in the paint. Between him and Tyler Hansbrough, head coach Dwane Casey has a good 3 and 4 with the depth in terms of his front court rotation. Patterson knows the game well and is a smart player. Hes in the right spots and has good awareness of what needs to get done out there. 2. KELLY OLYNYK (Celtics): 21 points and four rebounds along with five assists and two blocks yesterday. Thats nice to see; hes battled injury which is always difficult for rookies in missing necessary practice and game time. Theyre going to throw him out there every game since rebuilding is the approach in Boston this season; when he gets extended minutes, he impresses me. He has good skill and feel for the game. 3. KYRIE IRVING (Cavs): Fingers crossed that the MRI results are OK for him. Hes such an enjoyable and creative player to watch. I spoke about this on Monday: weve had so many injuries to some of our elite level players which is sucha shame. The Cavs have been a bit of a disappointment this season and hes that bright spot that you tune in to watch and know that hell wow you with his ball handling, passing and scoring punch. Hes had njury issues in the past and you always worry about guys that are injury prone when youre trying to build a team. 4. PAU GASOL (Lakers): Its amazing when you evaluate trade rumours these days. So often its about the contract attached to a guys name rather than the guy himself. Hes linked with former teammate Andrew Bynum in a deal with the Cavs. Maybe the Cavs think hes still got a lot left in his game and want to see it for themselves while dumping Bynum. From what I see this year from Gasol, he needs a change of scenery. Its obvious that he doesnt feel comfortable with Mike DAntonis system in Los Angeles while DAntoni has struggled to connect with him. Probably better for both sides if hes moved. Gasol is a big ticket guy yet hes got a lot to play for as we look at the long term. Where there is smoke, there is fire. Somethings brewing. 5. TAJ GIBSON (Bulls): He has really impressed me with his improvement in his low post skills. I saw him last night in Chicago; hes made a significant commitment to do a better job of establishing deeper post position to counteract his lack of major size and length in the lane which is critical for him. He has a great motor and with the Bulls desperate for more offensive productivity and consistency hes a candidate for more minutes. Carlos Boozer can be inconsistent on some nights and Joakim Noah is a high energy guy with limited post moves; opportunity could be knocking further for him as they search for answers.    Cheap Warriors Jerseys China .com) - A chant of Zeke reverberated around AT&T Stadium before Ezekiel Elliott powered into the end zone for his fourth and final touchdown. Kerry, I hope you address Ron MacLeans comment during the second intermission of Game 4 in Montreal-Tampa series. When they did, they left behind the Carolina Hurricanes. David Desharnais scored twice and the Canadiens rallied for a 4-1 victory Saturday night. "We had a little slump a couple of weeks ago and we wanted to get out of it," Desharnais said. "We did and we want to stay up in the standings and with these three wins, we did. That was our goal." Ryan White and Brian Gionta also scored and Carey Price made 31 saves to help the Canadiens win their third in a row. "It was nice to finish before the break with another win," said Price, set to play for Canada in the Olympics. "We talked about staying focused and earning that one and it worked out for us. Confidence in hockey is a big thing and to finish strong like this is good," Montreal left wing Max Pacioretty, a member of the U.S. team, suffered a first-period injury after being checked into the goal by Carolinas Brett Bellemore. He left with 7:30 left in the first period and did not return. After the game, Pacioretty said it was all precautionary for his to sit out the rest of the game. "I went in pretty hard and I got the wind knocked out of me," Pacioretty said. "I think the team wanted to play it safe and I think it was a good decision." After a scoreless first period, Carolina got on the scoreboard first in the second period. "We responded the right way," Montreal coach Michel Therrien said. "Even though they scored the first goal, we started playing well." It took only 1:25 for Montreal to take the lead as White scored on a rebound at the top of the crease with 42.7 seconds left in the period. Desharnais gave Montreal some breathing room early in the third period with his 11th goal of the season. It marked his first multi-goal game of the season. "We didnt have the drive and the effort we needed," said Faulk, who also is on the U.S. Olympic team. "In a game like this, especially before the break, we needed to leave it all out there. It didnt go our way." Neither team took advantage of their power-play opportunities. Montreal was 0 for 1 with the man-advantage, and Carolina failed on two power plays.
