USB driver refusing to install
« on: December 26, 2005, 08:29:15 AM »
Hello to all.
I recently received a NeoFlash 512 kit, and while trying to install the SlimLoader III in my computer (Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2, Intel D845WN motherboard) the driver refuses to be read or installed.

This is the procedure I followed:

1- Installed Neo Power Kit 1.4 (I have also tried 1.3 and 1.0)
2- Connected the SlimLoader III to one USB port on the back side of the motherboard (directly, using no extension cable)
3- Found New Hardware wizard appeared.
4- Browsed to C:/NEO Power Kit/USB_Driver

After clicking 'OK', instead of watching the wizard look for the .inf and .sys files, the wizard just says Cannot install this hardware, The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software

I have tried using the enclosed CD, and downloaded 1.3 and 1.4 software versions, with Firewall and antivirus both disabled.

I have tested the SlimLoader in another computer and it works flawlessly, but  my personal computer is the one not liking the SlimLoader.

Any help for me to enjoy my Christmas gift would be greatly appreciated

Do you have other devices hooked up to your USB ports? or other linkers installed already? Have you tried different ports on the PC, someone also mentioned elsewhere that the linker does not behave on the USB ports attached to the motherboard if the pair is used, but does work fine if only one of the side-by-side pair is used.

I am having the exact same problem.  The loader installed fine on my desktop PC but Windows does not recognize the driver when I try installing on my laptop.

try deleteing this key from the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\USB\Vid_ffab&Pid_cd03

start/run
type regedit
browse through the tree till you get to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\USB

select the folder:
Vid_ffab&Pid_cd03

press delete.

It seems the problem is my Windows installation....
So, I will reinstall it...

Thanks for all your help Cory, I really appreciate your time and willingness to help.

Just another question

Is there any way to trick Neo Power Kit to load other files to the NeoFlash cart?
I want to use MoonShell on my DS, but I'm not able to load .spc, .nsf, and other kinds of files MoonShell supports, because those formats are not files NeoPowerKit supports..

Thanks for all.

MoonShell is for adaptors like the gbamp/supercard/m3 so you cant use it on the neoflash cart maybe in the future when neoflash release their mk2 lib MoonShell will be able to work with the mk3 by reading files off the sd/mmc card

Normatt, that is not true.

In moonshell there is a directory called files. If you put your files into it and run the "create_exfs" batch file, it will create ROM with your files in it. There is a limit though, anything after 32MB will not be readable on your flashcart.

I know this works as its what I used in MoonShell V6, apparently V7 and V8 have not been tested thouroughly with this method, but it should still work.

The limit for Cartridge based media (to be played on moonshell) is 32 Megabytes or 32 Megabits?

BTW, Cory, Moonshell v 0.8 can be used in NeoFlash following the method you suggested, thanks a lot.!  ;D

You've complained enough about the mk1 patcher not being supported anymore (this isn't anything new that hasn't already been mentioned in the past).  The situation is likely not going to change, either.  So your posts aren't adding any additional value to the boards (and definitely not helping anyone coming here for help with their neoflash products).

People can make their own decisions about what they want to purchase.  No one is being coerced to buy anything (there is an extensive FAQ/help section that users can access before deciding to purchase).

If you are not happy, you are free to sell your mk1 and purchase something else..

You have already stated the obvious (you are not the first one to express your displeasure).  So why rehash the same item over and over again, especially when the situation is likely not going to change as a result?  Of course, all of the users (including myself) would want the older products to receive support, but we don't have any control over that....

Dr. Neo is the one to blame here.

He has control.
