some Mk2 questions
« on: January 23, 2006, 07:43:45 AM »
Hello I have 3 questions about the MK2

1. Do you think we will somewhen be able to boot (the MK2) without gba flash cart?

2. Do I need to patch HOMEBREWS?

3. Did someone try to use the Canon SD 16MB with the MK2?

Thank you.

1.  No, doesn't look likely as of now, since the gba flashcart may always be used as a boot device.

2.  I wouldn't think you need to patch homebrews.  My understanding is they're usually ds.gba files that are flashcart compatible.  The more relevant issue is that homebrew possibly may not be working because of bugs in the current menu (not sure if that's all been resolved for next menu)

3.  No, I haven't seen the Canon SD in the compatibility card list, so don't know if that works.  Every menu release, though, seems to add more SD cards to the compatibility list.

2. if you are putting homebrew on the SD/MMC card, it should be the .nds version and not the ds.gba version (.gba extension is unsupported in the boot menu)

So you confirm I don't need to patch the homebrews? (in nds file) I directly put the nds file on the sd.. (and the sd in the mk2, then the mk2 in the DS :D  ) No need for ndsloader etc.?

yeah, that's what cory is saying.  If the homebrew doesn't work, I think it's just a bug with the menu that will get resolved in a later release.

yes, exactly. Also, the homebrew that doesnt run is most likely stuff that has an appended filesystem like GBFS. .nds versions (normally wireless multiboot versions) usually dont have appended data (or it wont wireless multiboot either).

Some like NesDS and SNESDS may still use an appeneded filesystem though. The .nds version of these will probably work if its flashed to a cart... possibly.
