DS Lite + Neoflash
« on: March 04, 2006, 10:40:01 PM »
Hey its been a while since my last post.

Now I know that the magic key doesnt work with the colored nds, but I was wondering if anyones got their hands on the japanese DS Lite yet and tested it out.  I hope it does becuase I was planing on upgrading to one of those but I might not if the neoflash doesnt work with it.

Magickey 1/2/3 will not work. A passme2 variant is required. This thread http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=30351 has pics of the DS lite running with SC and a Passme2. If Neoflash decides to makes a Passme2 style MK or a flashme version compatible with lite comes out then it'll be a different story so as of now don't buy one expecting to be able to use your MK.

The DS lite is just the same as the new firmware DS's, you need a passme2 to get it to work (so the MK1,2 and 3 doesn't work with it).
I don't know if you can flashme the ds lite, we'll have to see.

My guess would be yeah but doing that with the current flashme would defeat the purpose of getting the ds lite in the first place since flashme is based on the old firmware which doesn't have the ability to change the brightness settings of the screen.

Interesting thought though, does that mean you'll be able to flashme an old DS so it can have multiple brightness settings too?

wouldn't think so since the old DS screen was only made for 2 setting, on and off.

It's possible to flashme a DSlite with flashme v6, somebody has done it already at SCdev forums , and it works.
However you loose the function to adjust the brightness, but if you set it to your likeness before you change the firmware, it's gonna stay that way even after flashme.
The old DS could never get the same level of brightness of the Lite because it's an antirely different kind of display.
I't umproved in many ways, like more vibrant colors, more contrast and less glare. In fact, it's not even possible to switch the backlite off because the screen does not reflect any lite at all, there fore you can only switch it to the lowest level of brightness.
Even if you don't change the brightness, the DS lite screens are a big deal so much better than the DS's.
All you need is a passme2 device or such.
I am sure though a new version of flashme is well on the way, Loopy seems to have his hands on the new firmware already....

Those folks at Nintendo the can barely keep up the production to satisfy the demands, let alone build a slitly different uinit for the american market....
They must be a hell of a lot busy right now..I am sure the american DSlite will be just the same...I hope :)

amen to that.

Angelfly: I'm fairly certain there is code that can adjust the brightness of the screen on the old DS's, although I dont think the controller adjusts the brighness of the backlight but just the brighness of the screen itself.
