Game freeze troubles
« on: March 24, 2006, 12:06:22 PM »
Having a lot of problems while running games directly from either SD/MMC or GBA Flashcard(s). Currently I have a SD Kingston 128mb, and I will have a SD 2gb Kingston card again, when it gets back from Kingston. I also have an EZ-Flash II 256M, and an XG2 Flash 2005 512M.

Anyway, the problem is this, when running games like Super Princess Peach, Pokemon Trozei, these last two I have only gotten to run successfully from a GBA Flashcard, not the SD. Also Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney tends to lock up a lot during gameplay when ran from an SD card.

Usually what I have to do is, take out either the flashcard/NEO-KEY and blow on the contacts, then I usually blow inside the GBA slot to make it work properly again. I do not think I have gone a single day since I've had the MK3 without having to do this, it's really getting on my nerves. One thing I have noticed, is that if the you get the Nintendo DS logo without the classic Nintendo logo below it, it will not load the menu at all. For the menu to load properly both the Nintendo DS + Classic Nintendo logo have to be present. Also, if the class Nintendo logo is blurred, it will also not load.

My current NDS is a Version 1 Firmware, currently unmodified. In other words, I have not yet upgraded to the Flashme Firmware V7 yet, but I plan on doing so once I get my Triwing screwdriver.

Assuming you have cleaned the contacts as cory suggested, it really does sound like you are having an intermittent connection issue.  Every time I boot, the menu file never fails to load properly (always see those logos you mentioned).

As far as those roms you mentioned as not working from the SD card, those have already been tested as not working (meaning they either fail to boot, or boot and then crash afterwards).

SD rom compatibility has basically not been addressed yet, and will hopefully be one of the next issues that the coders take a look at...

Um, exactly where did cory suggest how to clean the contacts? Was it in another thread? If so, which one? Also, do you have any suggestions for getting the Menu to every time the DS starts up, instead of having to constantly blow into the unit or cartridge itself?

Sorry, might have confused you with another poster.  Basically, carefully clean ALL the contacts (i.e. the gold fingers) using a q-tip and a tiny amount of isopropyl alcohol.

Are you sure it's the neo-key/gba slot that's the cause of the problems, and not the mk3 unit itself??  Are you running the menu from the flashcart/neo-key, or has it been flashed to the mk2/3 menu flash??

If this situation persists, can you possibly exchange your mk3 2006??  It's a little strange since no one else seems to have reported that particular problem

More often than not, when I boot with NeoKey it does not go on the first poweron. If I turn it off an then on again immediately, it boots fine. Its kind of annoying and I wasnt certain I had production hardware here so I havent said anything until now.

Best workaround:
-install flashme V7
-Flash the menu to the MK2/3 menuflash
-dont worry about having anthing on a GBA cart unless a menuflash goes wrong (and then just use the NeoKey to restore it)
Those who have come here to hate should leave now, for in their hatred they only betray themselves.
