If I well undestand you propose that Marsxzel has an amount of a kind of energy, and when the player hold an item, this amount decrease.
Then, the amount of energy could increase when Marxsel take mushrooms ?

I think its a great idea. I love it.

some days after the compo, I will release the next version with this and some new cool features in the physics.  :)

I would have a way for it to slowly refill on its own while nothing is being held....  That way it won't be neccessary to get EVERY mushroom.

Yeah, but in te "Catch All" mode, the aim is to catch a maximum of mushrooms.
And the difficulty is the speed (increasing between level 1 and 3) and the obstacles.
But I will think seriously at your propositions, you got good ideas.
