PSP GAME division reviews + toplist
« on: August 31, 2009, 05:45:59 AM »

Hi , and welcome!
Here im reviewing PSP GAME division , sit back , put some nice music in the background ,
relax , and ...start reading my review :D.

Review system score scheme
Quote
   Pros & Cons : 0..5 points
   Graphics    : 0..2.5
   Sound       : 0..2.5
   Gameplay / replay value / etc : 0..5
   Motion support : 0..1.5
   Original entry : 0..1.5
   Bonus          : 0..2

Note : I'll be still using my usual theme , but a bit modified this time!

Are you READY???? ....lets go!!!

Tibia , is the long anticipated psp M.M.O R.P.G.
Still , there's a long way , but its getting there.

For now , there's a great single player mode available , with a huge map ,
save/load functionality , dozens of items , animated tiles , couple of weather
effects , and a nice little tutorial.

In the near future , its going to be a really amazing homebrew...

Pros & Cons
+Great graphics
+Animated tiles
+Basic weather effects
+Great work on inventory & shops
+Very detailed and large maps
+Soon it will support online mode!
+Couple of weapons to play with
+Countless items/objects
+Improved dramatically since last versions
+Great work on GUI
+Basic tutorial is included

-No animation in battles
-There is a glitch with fog.
There seems to be 2 transparent images moving one after another
and the "spacing" is visible.
-Some times the GUI will make your life really hard
5 / 5

Graphics
I really love the graphics , they're well designed and detailed.
Especially the work on the tiles is impressive, you'll find from
animated water tiles to anything you can imagine.

Also the animation of the spells adds alot.
The only downside though is the lack of animations during battle.

2.5 / 2.5

Sound
There's a nice music background theme , but other than that many SFX are missing.

1.5 / 2.5

Gameplay/Replay value/etc
Even if the game isn't complete , the gameplay is getting almost there.
The basic gameplay elements are enough to at least let you enjoy this
awesome awesome awesome homebrew.

Some animations are missing though(battle animation ) , and once
they're implemented they will improve the overall quality of the game.

Also i can't wait for the multiplayer part!!Its gonna be epic.

5 / 5

Original Entry
Nope!!  , not an original entry!

Bugs found: There is a glitch with the fog transparent
image.

Will this stay on my memory stick? : YES
What's missing to reach the top?: Nothing to recommend a.t.m.

Come on!!!! ...do i have to write an introduction for this?
Its a Puzzle Bobble clone , and actually a pretty good one!

Lets find out every little detail about this great homebrew...

Pros & Cons
+EXCELLENT work on sound effects and music
+Ability to download levels off the internet!
+An overall great clone of Puzzle Bobble!!!
+Great work on backgrounds & the "splashy" images.

-Missing high scores
-The baloons don't stack really well, feels like they're in a grid.
The movement is a bit glitchy , and not "natural".
-When selecting a level , the game runs really slow,
and the music playback is veeeeeeery glitchy.

4 / 5

Graphics
The graphics are really nice , and combined with
some crazy sound effects they look like they're alive.

Some animations are missing though.

2 / 2.5

Sound
Here you get the gold.
Really awesome work on sound effects and music, congrats!!

2.5 / 2.5

Gameplay/Replay value/etc
The gameplay needs some more work compared with
the other parts of the game(which are all at pretty high level).

First of all there 's no highscore support ,
second , the baloons don't stack natural. It feels more like a grid game.
The baloons should be more bouncy , and some effects should be
rendered when your making a combo.

Also some text indicators would be great.

3 / 5

Motion support
No motion support
0 / 1.5

Original Entry
YES!!  , an original entry!
1.5 / 1.5

Bonus
2 / 2

Bugs found: The level selection & preview is very laggy.

Will this stay on my memory stick? : YES
What's missing to reach the top?: Baloons should be more bouncy , online highscores ,
and maybe mp3 playback off the MS!

Here we have a ported engine which is able to handle Flashback's
resources and present a great game.

This is probably the best ported game i've seen on psp.
Everything works great , from FMVs to the actual game.
Not to mention the little additions in the engine that we can change resolution
and many more hacks.

Pros & Cons
+Great work on sound / graphics port
+Ability to change between display modes
+In-game hacks
+Everything plays and works great(even the FMVs!)

4 / 5

Graphics
SInce this is a port , i will not rate the graphics , but i will compare
them with the original instead!.

They look almost exactly the same , but a bit brighter , and the ability to switch
display modes is a great addition. Great work.

2 / 2.5

Sound
Again , since this is a port ,i will not rate the sound effects , since its
a complete game , but instead , i will rate the ported sound playback engine!.

All the sound effects are there , and everything works as you should be
expecting.
I haven't noticed any glitches so far.

2 / 2.5

Gameplay/Replay value/etc
And again , i will not rate the gameplay by itself(which is really nice) , but
i will rate the effort that the developer put to make it as smooth as possible.

Remember walar's box destroyer ?
Whether you do or not , lets see what changed...

Pros & Cons
+Heavily physics based gameplay
+Clean and simple graphics & particles
+Nice work on sound effects
+Good work on gui

-No new elements have been added in the gameplay
since last year...
-Boring background music
-If you lose , you have to wait a couple of seconds to retry
without beeing able to press any button

4 / 5

Graphics
The graphics are really simple , but they're alright
for a physics game.

2.5 / 2.5

Sound
Nice work on sound effects , but there is no collision sound effects between
the bodies.

The background music is very boring.

1.5 / 2.5

Gameplay/Replay value/etc
The gameplay is simple , but nothing really changed since
last year.

I don't see any improved in the gameplay , for example ,
you could add powerups , or a challenge mode.

Its just the same game with more stylish graphics.

3.5 / 5

Motion support

Original Entry
Nope!!  , not an original entry!
0 / 1.5

Bonus
2 / 2

Bugs found: No bugs were found.

Will this stay on my memory stick? : YES
What's missing to reach the top?: Add sound effects for collision , maybe add new gameplay elements,
such as mini powerups...and maybe mp3 player...

Summary
13.5 / 20

Another great little port!
Ready for some oldschool shooter experience? Lets GO!!

Pros & Cons
+I like the animated space background.
It has more than one layer , and feels like there's some depth
between them!.

+Great pixelated explotions!I love these particles!
+Music & sound effects aren't bad at all!!
+Nice sound effect when you render the splash!

-Too damn hard!

3.5 / 5

Graphics
The graphics are really simple , but since its a port , i will
not rate the graphics , instead i will judge the final result not by how it
looks , but how it does work in order to look that way.

And i must say , that there are no glitches or slowdowns.
I have only noticed a little slowdown in the animated space , when
there are many explosions around.

No big deal.

2 / 2.5

Sound
Everything is ported alright , and the sound & music are there.

1.5 / 2.5

Gameplay/Replay value/etc
The port is very stable and i don't see anything serious that something
could go wrong.

But i must say that its damn hard!!!

3 / 5

Motion support

Yeah! another great port , and this time its Digger!

A really fun and challenging little game that everyone should check it out.

The only downside is the lack of audio support :(.

Pros & Cons
+An overall excellent & stable port
+The speed hacks are quite useful
+Fun and challenging gameplay

-No music/sound effects :(

3 / 5

Graphics
Again , since we're talking about a port , i will not rate the graphics,
but the effort that the developer put on the port.

The rendering seems to be very smooth , and i didn't noticed
any slow downs or glitches.

2.5 / 2.5

Sound
No sound effects at all.

Please! complete the port! :)

0 / 2.5

Gameplay/Replay value/etc
And again , i will not rate the gameplay , but the developer's efforts
in order everything to work as smooth as possible.

I've been playing it for a couple of minutes , and i didn't noticed anything
that could affect the gameplay.

I find the lack of audio support to be quite critical in the gameplay itself though...

3 / 5

Motion support

Original Entry
YES!!  , an original entry!
1.5 / 1.5

Bonus
2 / 2

What's missing to reach the top?: Add support for audio/music.

Summary
12 / 20

Lakeside , is an incomplete project , that's why im not really sure
for what genre it is aiming for.

Although you'll be amazed by how well the basic functionality works.

Pros & Cons
+Nice graphics and animations
+The level editor is really great
+I love that music that plays when selecting the eboot!!!!
Brings back great memories , i wonder which song is...

3 / 5

Graphics
The graphics are simple , but really nice!
The sprites seems to have many frames resulting in smooth animation.

1.5 / 2.5

Sound
Nothing to rate here , apart from the lovely music that plays
when selecting the eboot , there's nothing.

1 / 2.5

Gameplay/Replay value/etc
There is no gameplay , its an unfinished project unfortunately...
But , for some reason it has a great feeling , it feels way too familiar.
Really weird...

Ever imagined having Solid Snake are you own pet?!
Well , here is your chance!

Enjoy this hilarious game for as long it lasts...

Pros & Cons
+Snake as a pet!!!!!!Hahah
+Loads of sound effects that will make you laugh
+Funny animations!

-Great concept , but the implementation is not even descent.
-There are some issues with the graphics
-Animations are "broken"

2.5 / 5

Graphics
The graphics are descent , the backgrounds are way off the concept,
and the animations are "broken".

1.5 / 2.5

Sound
Really nice work on the audio part!

I have never heard Snake farting! :D

2 / 2.5

Gameplay/Replay value/etc
There isn't really gameplay , just some basic logic , but
its a really funny little game for as long it lasts.

Hilarious , that's what it is!

and make it a bit more interesting.

Summary

I must say that when i first saw a w.i.p screenshot of this game
i got amazed and i was really anxious to check it out.

Unfortunately , it turned out to be an incomplete game , which was
really frustrating.

Pros & Cons
+Great work on graphics
+Nice concept

-No sound effects/music
-Serious issues with the gameplay
-The game is incomplete
2.5 / 5

Graphics
The game might be incomplete but the graphics are really really great.

2.5 / 2.5

Sound
There are no sound effects or music ... unfortunately.

0 / 2.5

Gameplay/Replay value/etc
At the moment the gameplay has serious issues , there is no "response" at all.
All you have to do , is shoot & shoot until you die.

I do see some potential here , though , i can only judge the current release.

1 / 5

Motion support
No motion support
0 / 1.5

Original Entry
YES!!  , an original entry!
1.5 / 1.5

Bonus

What's missing to reach the top?: Nothing to recommend until a complete release is available.

Hmmm , homebrew hangman for psp? , lets see if its worth it or not...

Pros & Cons
+Multi5 language support
+Up to 3.500 words for each language

-Hard to get into it because the game mechanics
don't work as expected.
-Very mspaint -ish graphics.
-Lack of audio & effects

2 / 5

Graphics
I'm very disappointed with the graphics.
They are very simple , and they lack the support
that such a game needs.

1.5 / 2.5

Sound
There are no sound effects or music.

0 / 2.5

Gameplay/Replay value/etc
The basic gameplay is there , but for a hangman game you need
way more than that.

Hangman is in general a pretty easy game to implement.
What makes hard to improve a simple game is the "response".
More graphics are needed , and more cool animated effects/particles and
sound effects must be added in order to support the game.

2 / 5

Motion support
No motion support
0 / 1.5

Original Entry
YES!!  , an original entry!
1.5 / 1.5

Bonus
1 / 2

Bugs found: No bugs were found.

Will this stay on my memory stick? : No :(
What's missing to reach the top?: Better graphics , improved design ,sound effects, and some
nice animated effects.

Summary
8 / 20

Another shooter for psp and unfortunately its incomplete , and
shouldn't be even released at this state.

Also i should mention that the developer didn't even test it
on real psp hardware...

Pros & Cons
+Nice bullet patterns
+Descent graphics

-Runs very slow
-Why did you put Neo splash logo as a scrolling background
in the game?
-After killing a couple of enemies
you're just left with a scrolling backround.
-The developer didn't test it on psp before releasing it(!!!!)
-Issues with the collision
-Lack of menu/pause menu
-No correct rendering order , and the player can go on top of other objects.
(see the screenshot)
-2 hits are enough to destroy an enemy ship , and you can fire around 30/sec...
Unbalanced gameplay...

0.5 / 5

Graphics
The graphics aren't bad...but why did you put
Neo splash logo as an animated space background?.

2 / 2.5

Sound
There aren't any sound effects ... and its a must
for a shooter game.

0 / 2.5

Gameplay/Replay value/etc
The basic gameplay is there , but after killing a couple of enemies
that is , a background keep scrolling and there's nothing that you can do.

1 / 5

Motion support
YES!! Supports motion
1.5 / 1.5

Original Entry
Yes!!  ,  an original entry!
1.5 / 1.5

Bonus
0 / 2

Bugs found: Is it normal that only there are couple of enemies and then...absolutely nothing?
Will this stay on my memory stick? : No :(
What's missing to reach the top?: Make it ... playable , and get a psp to test it on!.

Good reviews, thank you. Just a thing about my game (Portable Bubble): THERE IS the support for highscore. In the game, the score is  represented as the time you spent to complete the level. And it will be automatically saved ;)

No.. this because is possible to see the highscore for each level in the level selection menu :D:D anyway there's no way to see a list cointeing all highscores of all level and level sets... but in my opinion it's not a problem... :)

Sorry for my bed english and thanks again

Yes i've seen the record text , but what you should have done is something like this:
http://www.cooganphoto.com/gravitar/gravitar_high_scores122306.jpg

This is what an arcade game needs :).

And good luck in the comp! , there is no doubt , you're going to hit "hiscore" this year. ~sm-45.gif~

I am very happy that you tried Lakeside's map editor, and that you said the game will stay on your memory stick.

And the song that plays when selecting the eboot is an original song. Thank you!  ::sm-29.gif::

You have done really good job on the editor , and the game in general feels very familiar.
I hope to see an improved version soon , or maybe in the next comp which is  in about a couple of months from now. Its shame to leave it as it is , it has a lot of potential but needs more work.

About the song , if you did it  by yourself , then congrats . :)
This little song could support a whole theme/gameplay style. ~sm-36.gif~

Thanks for the reviews, as I have said before I had very little time on my hands to make a game, I spent around 20 hours. I also had no one to help me with gfx, so that ate a lot of time. I do plan for a polished version soon. Spring, anyone?
