Neo Flash contest boosts DS homebrew scene
Related entries: Culture, Hacks, Nintendo DS

Thanks to a contest run by Neo Flash (makers of the first DS flash linker), homebrew enthusiasts just got a few new applications to play with—30 of them! There are a slew of games, some emulators, a handful of nifty apps, and a couple development files. Did we mention it’s free to download? But you will need that flash linker ($194.99)...

Some of the highlights include:

  • DSGoo - “Based on the popular Kai’s SuperGoo program, DSGoo brings ‘Goo’ to the Nintendo DS. Goo means to manipulate a picture by dragging a pen over it to distort it.”
  • Dual Step Revolution DS - “It’s basically a Dance Dance Revolution for the Nintendo DS. The purpose of this game is to press the button at the right moment when the arrows are at the top. You have to press the right keys exactly when the arrows match the ones at the top. You have to do this until the end of the song. Keep an eye on the red bar at the right. If it’s empty, you loose…”

DSGoo is neat, but yeah, it seems more like a toy than a game.  Like virtual silly putty.

It would be lame to mention it just cos of it's name. Maybe the guy actually like it? Personally I think there are better entries than mine (moreover what I would consider "highlights"), but it's nice to get some positive feedback. I think if you spend an hour gooing people's faces, then it has achieved it's goal at being entertaining to someone.

I spent a few minutes with it while I was mildly intoxicated :)  was wishing it was a little more responsive (seemed to lock up randomly for a few seconds at a times, especially with the big goo)

That's probably the fix for the "pen jump" problem. I havn't updated ndslib is ages, so I have old code. I think natrium has fixed that a while ago.
