Comments: GeneScript is compiler and a virtual machine. It allows you to write scripts that can act as programs, or helper code for another program. For example, you could write a simple 2D game in GeneScript, or the enemy response code for a more complex program. While GeneScript doesn't really have graphics or audio or controls in itself, it supports these things for programmers to use them in their own code. Bonus for being a homebrew tool.70/100

SMPlayer

Comments: This is my own entry, so any score is probably not going to count. Is anyone truly free of bias? Anywho, SMPlayer is a simple music player for the N64. The graphics and controls are nothing special, and it's not very original. It has good sound, but there are bugs in some of the audio decoders. The main purpose of SMP is to serve as a template for Myth-aware programs on the N64 Myth. Using the code from SMP, one could do their own program with access to the SD card. Bonus for being open source.50/100

Comments: This is a very original program, but not very useful unless you are a bird watcher. The graphics and sound are decent, but nothing special. If this were open source, it might be more useful as a template for user guides in other areas, but as it is, the only draw to this is its originality. Bonus for the bird quiz. Bonus for motion support70/100

Comments: With this app, you can view images, draw pictures, write, and read text. The controls are pretty good, with the exception of the writing. Even following the guide on forming letters, you often get the wrong letter. It's fairly useful, but the music that plays in the background gets annoying after a while.55/100

Comments: This app just shows some colors when you push the buttons. That's it. Not much to say - the score says it all. Bonus for open source.15/100

Comments: Etch is a paint program. It's got some good features for a handheld game console paint program. In the end, that's the main limitation. If you needed the features provided to edit an image, you wouldn't use an NDS, you'd use a computer.55/100

Comments: This is a NDS chat client for FaceBook. Pretty original... and pretty useful to some folks. That's where the points are concentrated. Bonus for being open source.70/100

Comments: Jazzier is a neat tool for a musician. It's a learning tool to help your timing, notation reading, and pitch recognition. Most people tend to know at least one instrument, and usually need pratice reading music, so I find this very original, and useful to many people. Bonus for being educational.75/100

Online Jukebox DS

Comments: Online Jukebox is an internet radio streaming app. The bitrate cap is kinda low, but you can't expect to much from an NDS for this sort of thing.55/100

Tirada 2

Graphics

Bonus
: 10
Comments: Tirada 2 is a dice rolling app. It rolls dice. You can choose up to 21 dies, and choose between standard six-sided dice or custom dice with any number of sides. Maybe useful to people playing D&D. Another program where the music playing in the background gets annoying. Bonus for being open source.50/100

Bonus

Comments: This is an NES music player for the PCE. Not much else to say. Bonus for REALLY fitting the "retro" category. While a PSP or NDS is of dubious "retro-ness", no one can say that about the PCE.60/100

Bonus

Comments: Cristal Vista is a shell for the PSP. It copies the look and feel of Windows Vista. While the graphics are good, they aren't really the author's. All he has done is copied Vista. I don't give points for copying others, but he did a good job not screwing it up, so I gave points for that. Similarly, this program is nothing new for the PSP - shells that play music and show pictures are a dime a dozen on the PSP. The only thing different here is the Vista look and feel, which is not his. On top of it all, he submitted a DEMO, so it's of limited usefullness. Remember we can't score this for what the finished product is, but for what the submitted project is. Also, it was submitted two days late - points off for that. In the end, he's lucky to get the score he does, which is mostly just for not screwing up.40/100

Comments: PSPDictionary is a dictionary and multi-language translator. You can connect to sites online and translate a word or phrase from one language to another! It has a decent interface, but the real meat of the project is in the originality and usefullness. Bonus for being open source, points off for being a previous entry.70/100

Comments: This one is hard to score. While it's a phenominal project, the vast majority of it isn't the author's. It's a minor set of improvements to an existing emulation that has been worked on by a bunch of people over the years, including myself! In the end, I can only give points for the minor changes made to a huge project.5/100

Comments: This is also another hard one to score. VSH menus are a dime a dozen on the PSP, and this one adds very little to the ones already out. In the end, he only gets points for usefullness. Points OFF for put a donation link on his entry post. How lame is that?15/100

Comments: DSPaintball is a puzzle game - try to get a ball from point A to B by drawing lines in the proper place. It actually works rather well, and is really fun... unless you don't like these kinds of games. Bonus for making you think.70/100

Comments: Duyu Mania is THE game to play this compo. Amazing graphics and sound, it combines a platformer with a puzzle game to good effect. The controls are spot on - very important in this sort of game. This could easily be a commercial game. Bonus for being a puzzle game.99/100

Comments: Epic Caveman is anything but. All you do is try to time your jumps as the screen scrolls past you. I was playing this back in the 80's on the Atari under the name "Aztec Challenge", but at least Aztec Challenge gave you three different height jumps. This gives you one. Decent graphics for a homebrew, but that's it.25/100

Comments: Overly complicated, Flake Out is a pain to play. It's really hard to do the right thing at the right time. It's original, I like the Xmas music, and the graphics are smooth, but it's just not fun. Bonus for motion support45/100

Comments: It's Lode Runner. What else is there to say? Is it an emulation? Is it a recreation? In the end, it doesn't matter. You have the same bad graphics, same bad sound, and same game play. If you loved Lode Runner on the Apple 2, you'll probably play it. No originality here.30/100

Comments: This isn't a game, it's a visual novel. It's a story told with pictures and sound, and as such, it's okay once. After that, you'll never touch it again. No replay value at all, and nothing to do but turn the page.30/100

Yeah, except that bonus points for "being a puzzle game" makes no sense in the first place  :P

Thanks! Adjusted. I'm not feeling too good right now, so I might miss things.  ~sm-39.gif~

Yes it does. Games that make you think versus mindless games. In my opinion (which all that matters for my reviews), that deserves extra points. You can ignore that in your reviews if you so desire.  :D

It just seemed to me like your "Fun" column could've sufficed for reflecting how much you enjoyed game A compared to game B, rather than having a blanket bonus for belonging to a certain genre regardless of whether the game was any good or not. But maybe that's just me.

Probably, but it was easier in my mind to keep one category for fun/useful for games/apps, and then an extra category for BONUS points for something not necessarily related to fun/useful, like open source/educational/makes you think/required extra programming effort/provides something not related to the program itself/you get the idea.

Thanks vor reviewing.
Maybe it's a stupid question, but why Lua progs got Extra Points? I mean... C is harder than Lua... (just asking, that's your review after all :p)

Open source versus closed source, not LUA versus C. A number of the open source programs that got extra points were C or python. If I missed a program that's open source, point it out and I'll adjust it like I did for Gefa.

Finally a review.   ~sm-70.gif~.gif

By the way , one thing to note. You need to give a few extra points to apps that support Neo Motion and non original entries get some kind of penalty.

For example :
Code: [Select]
Support Motion: ???

YES = The entry supports Neo motion=> It gets some extra points like 5~10% of 100
NO = Nothing

Code: [Select]
Original entry: ???
YES = First time submitted => It gets some extra points like 5~10% of 100
NO = Nothing , the entry has been previously here.

Anyway , good luck with your review  ~sm-42.gif~

Almost forgot about that... to make it easier, here's a list of non-original entries:
Super Smash Bros
Port Bubble (placed in top 10)
PSP Dictionary (placed in top 10)

and a list of games that support motion:
Super Extreme Smile
Flake Out
Scribble Jump
Avia

Like 3D sound is important for a FaceBook client. I guess I'll give you a few points for it.
