Neo N64 Myth Menu v2.4
« on: August 21, 2011, 02:57:38 PM »
Okay, I've bumped the current menu to v2.4b1. If you missed it, v2.3 added the save manager for saving save memory and save/restore of MemPak save memory. New to this version is running NES games - when you select an NES game from the SD card, the menu loads the Neon64 emulator, appends the game, recalculates the checksum, and starts the emulator. The current version of Neon64 is included with the archive and must be copied to the SD card; copy the neon64 directory from the archive to the /menu/n64 directory on the SD card.

Of course not! I specifically added code to randomly erase files on the SD card, erase the flash in the carts, and loc up the N64's after an hour. Also, if you insert the SD card in a PC after using this version, it'll activate SkyNet and bring about the rise of the machines and nuclear Armageddon.

Because some versions marked as "beta" had some bugs , doesn't mean that there will be regression in every single release.
And to answer your question :Yes , it is better.

Beta means there are new features that haven't been fully tested. Old features are generally unaffected unless otherwise stated. Many apps on the net are in a permanent "beta" phase as features outstrip testing. We try to avoid that when we can, but there's not many working on this (often just me). If you are concerned, just put 2.2 on the menu flash and run new versions from the SD card. If the new version doesn't work out, just remove it and you're back on 2.2.

As to the emulator, I haven't run into anything that doesn't work, but that doesn't mean EVERYTHING works. If you read the neon64 readme, it talks about which mappers are supported, and lists a few games that don't work due to bugs. If you visit the neon64 web page, you'll notice the author quit working on it in 2004. The source is published in case someone else wants to work on it.

Well, I've been using 2.3b3 for quite and while, and am now using 2.4b1 with no thought to switching back. If I find (or get a report of) a bug, I'm more likely to fix it than switch back to an older version. The last time I went back to an older version was when conle rolled back the new fat filesystem to the old one because of problems with the updated filesystem. That was some time back.
