warm up your SD by leaving it plugged in for 5-10 minutes
(sometimes SDs get "cold" if not used for a little while)
or possibly try to clean the gold contacts

then try this command:-
Quote
chkdsk f: /x
with "f:" being whatever drive it is

2 things :

1.Your sd reader is having hard time
2.Since you're using windows , your SD card has most likely developed many bad sectors .
What you can do is to simply download a live cd of a linux distro , then:
a. Plug in your card (It Should work on linux. Most likely the filesystem will be read only)
b.Save the contets temporarily on HDD
c.Format the SD with gparted to FAT32
d.Now go to the folder that you have backed up
e.Delete any empty files/directories(links) by using the following commands :
cd path
find /. -name "*.*" -size 0 -exec rm\;
f.Copy the files back on the root of your SDC and UNMOUNT the drive.Make sure to not forget this.

It's probably not bad sectors, but bad data written by Windows. I've seen Windows screw up the meta-data for drives, especially FAT formatted SD cards, quite a bit. The filesystem used by our menus are designed to be used by embedded systems, so it's more robust than the Windows filesystem so it can read cards Windows thinks are hopelessly screwed up. If you wish to use the card in Windows again, you'll need to reformat it in Windows. Be sure to do frequent backups of save files on the card because eventually Windows will screw up the card again and quit reading it until you reformat it... again. I've yet to see this with linux. The vfat driver in linux is pretty damn near perfect after all the work that's been done on it. As Conle stated, if Windows won't read the card, often you can still read it in linux. A reformat will then make it start reading in Windows.
